My 2012 Verna SX(O) does not have dual zone ACC. Wonder if this is an error on the website or does the latest model actually have dual zone ACC?

Is the iPod cable available separately as an accessory? Does Hyundai sell it? Anyone know how much it is with Hyundai or even aftermarket? I have an older iPod (The large connector not lightening)

Hi. Happy Ugadi / Gudi Padwa to all..
I am planning to go in for the new Verna SX CRDI (after lot of brooding over new Honda City - while SV MT is within my budget, it is definitely not VFM & VMT is over priced for the specs that one get. Purely my personal opinion. Alloys at 9K per piece & 10 for an average Rear View Camera!! More over Dealers don't replace any stuff - Steel Rims, 3.5" Music System & OEM Tires all end as for keeps, if one were to upgrade!!).

Heard from SA that there are 3 new colors - Wine Red, Stardust & Twilight Blue.. haven't seen them yet - plan to go & check in the next 2 days & then book accordingly.

Now, back to my plans - I need few inputs from the experts.

1. Tire Upgrade - Is it really required, now with the improved Suspension & ABS being calibrated accordingly. If recommended, then what is the best upgrade (well balanced between comfort & improved handling / braking), preferably in Michelin.

2. OEM ICE Upgrade. Which make is the OEM HU & Speakers in 2014 Verna - is it Kenwood? (SA told me it's of 'Hyundai' make!!).
I plan to retain the OEM HU for the time being. Plan is to use JBL 4 Ch. Amp & the Memphis Sub in enclosure (both currently doing duty in my Santro), along with all 4 door speakers changed. Any suggestion for the door speakers - my pref. is SQ.

3. Which is the best Navigation enabled HU within 25-30K? How good is MapmyIndia's In-Dash AVN-R device for Verna?

4. How adequate is the Verna Head lamps - esp for Highway duty? Will it be possible to replace with the SX(O) variant's Projector Unit? If not, then I'll just change to Night breaker or so.

Sharing my experience only. I am no expert. My model is 1.6 CRDI SX, Sept-2011.

1. Stock tyres are Bridgestones B-250 of 195/55/R16 size. They have served me well till now ( 42 k on odo ). They provide adequate grip, noise level is ok till 120/130 kmph after which it becomes noisy, till now two punctures, no side wall bulging or tyre cutting issue. No need to upgrade IMO. But my next set of tyres will be of 205/55/R16 size solely for increasing GC by 5 mm. Lower GC & very soft suspensions of my car makes makes life really horrible in our conditions. With improved suspension of 2014 model, you should not face this problem.

2. No idea about the brand. Rear output of my HU is pathetic. Even upgrading to better speakers will not solve the problem. Front speakers & tweeters are good enough. Please do not take any haste decisions. I would advise you to simply use your existing amp & woofer. I hope you may not require any other audio modifications.

3. No idea.

4. Head lights need to be worked upon without any doubt. For one year I had used Philips 100/90 R with relay, which was a big improvement over stock. Now changed to NB plus which are in between stock & Philips extreme.

I need your advise now. I am sure you would have taken extensive TDs of Verna. How was the ride quality at rear with full load particularly on wavy roads? My car is too bad in this area, largely because of very soft suspension setup. This is the only major concern for me. As per updates from others, in 2014 model this issue has been taken care of with stiffer springs. Few bhpians having older cars have changed the springs of all four suspensions & have opined that the older models become as good as 2014 in this regard. Please share your feedback.

Probably I will wait for the OEM tires to wear off & for the next change, go in
for upgrade.

In case of Audio, as you suggested I too plan to stick to my Amp & Sub, with 4 component speakers as replacement.

I had 100/90 set up on my Santro - both the head lamps got fried in 2 years! So I had to replace with new OEM units & harness, along with Philips Extreme. Once bitten, twice shy they say.

I can comment on the suspension purely based on the TDs. I could clearly feel the difference between both models. I did TD over rough, uneven surface as well. It's soft, plaint enough for rear passengers & there was no bottoming out. Overall it felt tight over corners/bends, on Outer Ring Road. However awaiting feedback from owners of 2014 model who has pushed the limits on highway.

I had exactly the same fear, therefore changed to NB plus before it was too late & requiring replacement of harness.

Getting excited on the prospects of possible suspension improvements of my car.A faint light at the end of a long tunnel, Going for new rear springs replacements first & if felt worth, I will go for new front springs later. With stiffer suspensions & with wider tyre & with little higher sidewalls I expect the GC to improve, ride quality to improve, lesser high speed bumpiness & a better steering feel.

Sorry for the little Off Track - however I couldn't find a dedicated thread & therefore capturing my experience of Xcent here.

Checked out Xcent SX(O) at Advaith Hyundai, Outer Ring Road (B'lore), while we were there today to finalize on our Verna option.

Although I am not a great fan of the sub 4m sedans, I felt Xcent was one of the better looking of the lot. The boot is spacious at 407 (in the segment) & looked pretty well integrated. Especially from some angles one start liking it :)
However the short snout, aka engine bay, looked little odd on the sedan version as compared to the hatch.
Interior is pretty decent - I'd say at par if not better than D'zire - good build quality & upmarket feel. Driving position is good (though the fixed head rest is a pain) & space is decent. Ergonomics are good, given that it shares the traits with Grand i10. Climate control is a positive, so is the rear vents.
What really impressed me is the NVH - the 3 cylinder thrum is muted - great insulation work by Hyundai engineers! Very unlike the Amaze which kind of groans, some thing it's bigger cousin City Diesel too have inherited.
Felt underpowered - then this segment is not about burning rubber, rather being easy on wallet. Even then I felt the overtaking ability was ok, probably one had to down shift as & when required. Suspension is not wallowy, only grouse being the thuds of uneven road surface / pot holes easily creeping in.
I liked the 15" Alloys on the SX(O), which improves the Ground Clearance & allayed any fear of being dwarfed on the road (thanks to the biggies out there).
Sadly Hyundai too has learnt some cheap cost cutting from Honda guys - no boot cladding, fixed head rests, limited wheel well cladding etc. ABS is an option [i.e., only in SX(O)]. However the positives are a plenty, making it overall a great compact sedan, especially compared to the current segment leaders.
No wonder, we were told of 2+ months waiting period!

And for our Verna plans, we were in for a not so pleasant surprise. Apparently Hyundai has cut down the Corporate Discount to 3K. But with a bit of haggling, we could get an additional discount which more than made up. So very soon it'd be time to bid adieu to our 8 year old Xing, who after clocking 1.28L, is still going great. On our Kerala drives, we always got 19+ kmpl (always calculated tank full to tank full, auto stop mode).
Goes to show, that with timely service & care, one could have a great run with even such entry level cars. Advaith Hyundai (Whitefield) service team has been very good - one of the main reason we're sticking with the brand

Today is Ramnavami & thus a holiday here. Did some theoretical experiment today morning for the following purposes:

- Timepass

- Do an FE test & to see how good my car is, compared to other diesels. I remember Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCI was the champion in one FE contest event, conducted sometime back. I remember, the figure reported was approx 38 kmpl. Of course those test cars would have been modified to extract maximum FE.

- To test, how 5 MP-only camera of my Moto-G, recently purchased from Flipkart, fares.

- To post something new, I had not posted earlier.

- To test something which is not doable in real world situations.

- Nothing new to report on my car, thus to find an excuse and post something useless with a bright chance of escaping wrath of my buddies.:)

Test Conditions:

- Started the car, drove from point A, reached point B, took U turn, reached point A. Total distance 15 km. This methodology minimizes the possible error due to road gradients.

- On NH-6, single lane, fairly smooth tarmac, less than average traffic, 3 speed breakers one side(thus total six) requiring to come down to 2nd gear.

- Alone in the car, no AC, only two front windows fully open, tyre pressure-32 psi.

- Tried to maintain a speed of 60 kmph in 5th gear. Would have liked an average speed of 55 kmph or thereabout, but it came to 42 kmph, reasons- traffic conditions & six speed breakers.

- Before coming to final halt, I changed the gear from 5th to neutral @ 60 kmph before 300-400 mt. of my destination, allowed the car to go as far as possible with the momentum, applied breaks @ 20 kmph & then took the FE snaps at point A. This should take care of the fuel loss to an extent at the start ( point A), while taking the car from zero to 60 kmph.

- I would have liked a 20 km test (10+ 10), but had to take a U turn at 7.5 km, since after that there was a steep incline for around 1.5 km, which could have made the data more unreliable.

Find the test tarmac & result in the pictures. MID FE in my car shows 7% more than actual FE on tank full method. I believe, FE can be bettered in 2 lane highways without speed breakers. Now a days little free after end of last FY , thus will try to do three more similar tests :

1. Same condition ( 15 km ) with ACC at 20* c.
2. 20 km Non-AC, same condition, on two lane highways.
3. 20 km, ACC at 20*c, on two lane highways.

Posting two snaps already posted before in their original dimensions. Long back, I had posted pictures in this forum, when my car was brand new. Not used to & thus the error. During next tests, I will try to use my digicam for better quality.

Sorry for being off-topic: I had gone through various methods for uploading photographs in FAQ section. Which method gives best result in terms of quality of the pictures, or all produce same quality. By quality, I mean, it should look exactly the same as the original one.

Verna 2014 users, could you confirm if the new version has an upgraded suspension? If so how does it affect the ride and handling?

What is the turning radius for Verna fluidic? Considering the 1.6 EX AT version.

Hyundai seems to shy away from mentioning turning radius for most of their models in the website.

From what I could find its called out as 5.2 meters for all Verna Fluidic models across the range.
