I visited a Ford dealership yesterday for a test drive of Figo. After the test drive, I was roaming around the parking area and there were many brand new Figos ready for PDI/Delivery.

I was shocked too see that Front Disk, Hub and Studs/Nuts of many Figos were rusted.:Shockked:

I am attching few pictures taken of the cars, and there were many cars who had the same problem.

It is really surprising that a brand new vehicle is rusted so badly. Just imagine, what will the position of these parts/car after 2-3 years? Will they survive that long?

This is quite normal and happens on most cars standing in the open. The rust on the discs will go away once you start using the car. Don't worry about it.

Yeah thats common. Once the discs are operational it will make a squeeling noise at first and then wear off later. Can't do much about it except take delivery in Winters and summers.

What about the rusts on studs? Is that too normal?:Shockked:

To tackle this problem i feel the dealers should atleast cover the cars or probably bulld a roof in the stock yard. There is not a permanant solution but this can probably minimize the rust.

Your title is quite mis-leading my friend. Rust appearing on the lugnuts and disc's generally occur when you car is parked and exposed to the elements. If it has rained in the recent past then the frequency of the rust would only increase.

Have seen this on my older baleno too when it was parked for over a week without being used in the rainy season.

Cast Iron components will rust, as they are desired to do so. The surface rusts protect the inner metal surface. Why have you enhanced the yellow color to show it as a major problem. Nothing to worry here, Studs exposed surface rusting also seen on many new cars, including the strut bolt. This is the problem if Indians want cars cheaper :)

Very very normal. You would see this in your car even if you havent driven it for sometime. Nothing to get concerned about.

I initially thought the rust happens on new Figo that has been purchased recently, but this seems to be on dealer stock yard. IMO, ideally it shouldn't rust, but then dealer themselves cannot afford to stock the cars in closed go down due to increase in cost. Probably they change the lug nuts during delivery. The rust on discs probably would go away when brakes are applied.

The pictures posted here are all 'normal' rust. If you see rusting on painted parts like in the case of some Lineas and Swifts on TBHP, then it's a serious issue. I agree with rjstyles69's opinion that the thread title is misleading.

I've witnessed metal rusting within few days after machining it while we were working on a college project.

By the way what could be the solution to this problem, aren't the parts coated with some anti-rusting chemicals by the companies?
Is this the case with all Brands?

I immediately clicked on the link when I found this new thread, because I am exactly going through this situation. In my Swift's case, as you said the rust is on painted parts. I have updated pictures of the same.

Sorry for misleading the topic, but " The surface rusts protect the inner metal surface" is this true??... I guess the rust will act as an electrode and accelerate the corrosion process. Also the rust is absolutely permeable, which means it cannot act as a protection cover like paint and there would be a similar effect like exposing it to the air, just that it gets faster with rust acting as an electrode.


Yeah, this is normal and will be back in action through use.

No. It's not true.

Iron Rust on the surface doesn't provide any protection for inners.
