I owned a Tata Nano for 4 years since 2010 and used the vehicle until the warranty expired at 40,000kms.
During the 4 years the only items that I paid for is a battery and the alternator belt. I also had AMC for my car so my service bills were also covered by the dealer/Tata.

Thanks for the reply.

unfortunately recently i bought the car, am the third owner, when i approach tata Service centre, they told me since the car is resale they can't continue the warranty, dont know why, instead of that they were insisting me to purchase AMC.

am confuse at this stage, since car is running ok, when the servicing comes i'll take call on buying AMC.

Kindly advise u have any clarity, am from Mumbai

Thanks

Re: TATA nano - List of ALL issues

So irritated to see rust under the hood. The sponge on the air inlet hole touches the front hood from inside when the hood is closed. If the sponge is wet it takes time to get dry but by that time the hood started rusting. My nano is still under warranty. what should I do?

Sorry I dont have snaps now but will post it soon. I am fed up with Tata's quality.

The Tata Service center people are misguiding you with false information. The warranty is given for a vehicle not the owner or its first buyer. It should be honored no matter how many owners the car has if the terms of the warranty (time/kms) are met with.

My suggestion to you is that you should write to Tata motors about the matter through their website complaint cell.

In that case why do the invoices/manuals/literature of many items (not necessarily Tata Nano) specify that warranty is not transferable?

I think the extended warranty is NON TRANSFERABLE, I may be wrong, but I remember some literature on my Indica when I had got it. However, to be absolutely sure, write a mail to TATA directly and check with them.

AMC is a good option, if the cost is reasonable.

I'm quite sure that the Tata Nano comes with a 4 year warranty, If it were extended warranty, wouldn't it be mentioned as 2+2 years warranty.

Warranty can be transferred to the next owner of the car if the car has been sold with the period of warranty coverage. I sold my car which was almost 4 years old and had a few months of warranty period remaining, and the new buyer was confirmed that he could avail the benefits of warranty, through a phone call to the dealership.

I have no knowledge about the transfer of AMC benefits.

But the response one gets from a random dealership if the matter is inquired will not be positive, so to get a clear picture about transfer of warranty and AMC etc, it is best to call the dealer who sold the vehicle initially.

Even a simple warranty claim is so much easier with the dealer who made the initial sale compared to any other dealer even if they are in the same city.
This just my experience with Tata Motors when I had to sort out issue with the Nano we had.

Re: TATA nano - List of ALL issues

I can assure you that the warranty is transferable. You just give the photocopy of your r.c.to the service centre. I myself own a used nano.

Re: TATA nano - List of ALL issues

The Nano's clutch becomes very hard after about 25000 kms. In my Nano-CX's 40000 Kms service, I decided to service the clutch and here is the bill for that. Rs.2300 for the clutch work is not bad at all. This was done by Maximus Motors in Attapur, Hyderabad. I really like going to these guys again for their
- attention to detail
- utmost respect for the customer from every person working there (irrespective of the car you drive to them)
- Tangible results after the service is done. My car is extremely smooth after they service it
- reasonable charges compared to a couple of other A.S.S in Hyderabad

After trying out two other service centers, I would confidently recommend Maximus to Team BHPians in Hyderabad.

Maximus - Keep up the good work!

Re: TATA nano - List of ALL issues

Hello everyone. I need some urgent help as my nano is the only way of transportation i have. Right now i took my nano for a drive and all of a sudden , the engine stopped cranking. There was a tick tick sound when i tried to crank. I was suspecting a battery problem but the battery seems fine. All the electricals are working properly. I read some previous posts of the starter getting stuck. But even after push starting the vehicle, the starter is not working. Kindly suggest a solution.

Regards

This happened to my Nano a couple of months ago. It was due to the alternator belt snapping off. It happened in this sequence:
1. There was a screeching sound from the engine when I started the engine everytime. I ignored this for over 3-4 months.
2. Suddenly one day the battery started discharging and it wouldn't start after I stopped the engine.
3. I called in the battery guys and they said the battery went dead, so replaced the battery(3.5 years old).
4. The engine still wouldn't start so called the car electrician and checked to find the alternator belt missing!! Yes, if it snaps it just falls on the road while the car is running.
5. It still would not crank after installing the alternator belt. Then I took it to the A.S.S. They changed a fuse that sits near the battery. This time the engine comes to life with cranking.
This entire episode cost me Rs.4100/-!!
3100 - Battery (Amaron after exchange of old Exide)
350 - Belt and electrician charges
650 - A.S.S - changing the fuse (I know it's REALLY high given, it took under 20 mins to check and replace it and the fuse is somewhere in the Rs.100/- ballpark. This is when I realised, I would not take the car to A.S.S in Hyderabad, unless its regular service with predicted costs)

Lessons learnt :
A) The alternator belt doesn't last more than 30000 kms in the Nano.
B) There are serious complications affecting Battery and other electricals if the belts are not changed as part of a preventive maintenance
and if the belts snap off because of negligence.

Thanks a lot. I will get it checked. My car has barely done 15k kms. Do you think the alternator belt can snap so soon ? And the main problem is that service centre is too far from my place. I will see if any local FNG can handle the job or else I will go to the ASC.

Re: TATA nano - List of ALL issues

15K kms is a bit low for this problem to arise. In any case, quickly take a look at the alternator motor. It is towards the right hand side of the engine compartment. You can easily spot the belt on the alternator. In case you don't find it, then that's the issue. In case everything is in place, you might have to call the electrician and check the fuse near the battery. Or to that matter check any other possible issues with the non-starting of the engine.

Re: TATA nano - List of ALL issues

Has anyone played around with Nano's OBD port ? I tried reading using a Vgate scan hardware (picture given). But I am not able to connect it with any of the apps in play store.

Is the protocol in Nano different ?

Please have a look. I recorded the sound. The car just started once. No luck after that. The alternator belt seems to be in place.
