What is the RON numbers for standard and premium BS IV petrol ?

As per current deadlines BS 3 (not BS4) fuel is supposed to be made available at outside the 13 cities(where BS 2 fuel is being currently sold) from October 1, 2010. No idea regarding the RON numbers.

As things stand today, the oil companies are struggling to supply BS-III fuel across the country (outside of the 13 metros). I think it'll be a while before India completely moves over to BS-IV fuel.

From wikipedia I got the RON number for BSIV fuel as 91. Not mentioned if normal or premium. I assume it is for normal.

So, what RON for premium now?

BS2 is 88 RON, BS3 and BS4 91RON. This is regular. Premium is 93RON for BS2 and 95RON for BS3 & BS4. This is why IOC XP was NOT premium in BS3 cities. Look how their advertising changed. Only talked of additives, and nothing on 93RON!

Hi Guys,

Need your suggestion.

I will be moving to Hyderabad from Chennai in the next 10 days. Intially, the plan was to take the car(Spark, BS III compliant) to HYD, pay the life time road tax, re-register it and drive around without any hassles.

But, after reading some posts here, I gather that, in all probability, my car will not be allowed to re-register in HYD(BS IV).

Can I now just pay the life time tax and forget about the re-registration process? Will it lead to any problems in the future?

Also, is there no way I can get it re-registered in HYD? Is there anyone on this forum who managed to get his/her BS III compliant car re-registered in any of the 13 cities that have been identified as BS IV compliant cities?

Thanks

Klever, if your move is going to be temporary, drive around on Chennai plates itself. If permanent, then its better to sell your Spark off and buy a new car in Hyderabad.

Unless there is a special RTO checking or you commit a traffic mistake, no one is going to stop and check your vehicle on a regular basis.
3 years back, I was driving my Chennai registered Accent here in kerala and almost 6 months I used the car in kerala roads.
Once, during a special check by Highway police (they were stopping all the private vehicles and checking - I didnt know what for the checking was going).
My turn came- they checked the vehicle inside, under the seat, boot etc then the officer asked me the question -how long am using this car here and why I havent re-registered the car in kerala. Luckily I had the Chennai address visiting card and also the D/L then was having my chennai address. I have shown both and told them that I regularly come to hometown for weekends and then take the car again to chennai. He was satisfied and allowed me to go. May be, they might have fined me if I didnt carry those two documents.
So for almost 6months usage, I was caught only once!

Yeps, BS-IV 91 RON is standard in 13 notified cities including the 4 metros.

BS-III standard is 87 RON. Actually now all petrol whether regular or premium (except Speed 97) is 91 RON.

It is only mentioned on the dealers Invoice that comes from the Oil Depot.

Sir, I'm aware of the invoice stuff etc.. But how do "We" the customer ensure it is 91 RON?

What is the measure of Quality?

As Long as You are In the 13 Metro Cities where BS4 came into effect On 01/04/10 The fuel that you will get is Definately 91 Octane, As per the supreme court Directives All the OMC have to comply so in in the 13 metros it has to be 91 Ron and thats what we get. AS a Customer The only way is by asking the Manager at the bunk, who in all probability will not know what 91 Octane is

By Measure of quality did you mean How to check for adulteration or Octane rating?
