Hi thank for ur pic .My speedo is much the same but no engine immobiliser and eps light as my car had no immobiliser as std . (Alto lxi 2004). Also the new altos have the eps light coming on now not in mine.In any case i have fitted the wagon R speedo with tacho to my car instead of the altos original (for lxi) only speedo design .Only the kms do not get carried over with the new speedo being fitted with 0kms).

Sorry I forgot to admit that mine is also a early 2004. Does my Alto really have a immobiliser? I canīt believe that anybody would be interested to steal this car here in Germany.... What do you mean with "speedo with tacho" and "only speedo design"?Do you mean that you installed a speedo with rev counter as mine Alto has? Mine is a "Club" edition. The "Classic" does only have a speedo I remember.

There are two instrumentation panel designs, at least in the Indian Alto
- One with Speedometer and Tachometer (revolution counter)
- One with Speedometer without Tachometer

Even the Alto K10 has these variations, Vxi with Tachometer and Lxi without.

The first was my original speedo and the other was what I fitted 2 yrs back .

Can somebody please tell me what would the realistic top speed of the Alto Vxi 1.1 would be? My Vxi Struggles to go beyond 110 kph. Its run 88K kms (cant be sure its accurate as it was bought used at 53K kms) Also, the original 12 inch 145/?? tyres were replaced by 13 inch alloys wearing 155/65 rubber.

Somebody suggested that the compression is weak, how do i verify that?

You can easily cruise at 130+ kmph in the 1.1 liter Alto. Personally, I have driven my friend's Alto 1.1 (it had covered 55k kms in 2007) and reached a top speed of ~145+ on open stretches of road. Since your car has covered 83k kms, a compression check would be a good place to start to see if there is indeed a problem. But before that check when you last serviced the car.

Check the usual culprits like the air filter, spark plugs before you do the compression test. It is unlikely that the car's engine will lose compression pressure at such low mileage if maintained properly. If you go to your MASS, they will do a compression check for you.

I have no idea of the Alto VXi, but I have taken M800 beyond 120 on highways, so I think that the 1.1L engine should take it to 140+. My K10 has done 130+.

In case your FE is low and/or engine consumes oil between service, your engine may need checking, though even 1L km is not enough for the engine to wear out.

But the white one has been modified or is white original?

I have already written here that my record Topspeed was 171kmph which has been checked by GPS so it should genuine. My Speedo was at 180kmph at itīs limit, the rev counter nearly at 6000rpm. This is only possible in the 4th gear and donīt do it too long. Maybe that was the reason that my head gasket is broken. OK, the car has run over 150000km maybe itīs normal.
Between 150 and 160kmph is realistic in 5th gear.

^^Those speeds may be possible on German roads, with German fuel. The oil being used may be 0W30 and the car may be in a different state of tune.

Here the car runs on 20W40 oil and is tuned for not so pure fuel. My 800 CC Alto reaches 100 KPH easily, but the next 20 KPH do not come up as easily. I have to give a good amount of accelerator in fourth gear and anything beyond that comes only incrementally. So I don't attempt it anymore and am happy between 80 - 100!

Just a thought.
Upsizing tyres: if the rolling diameter has increased too much, it will have these effects:-
A) Speedo will underread. So check calibration.
B) As it is 5th is cruising gear, not 'power' gear. There can be drastic fall in top speed in 5th if overall gearing is even slightly off. And the top speed is likely to vary with every gust of wind. Find out what your top speed is in 4th.

Rolling resistance of tyres will also change. But in which way is difficult to say offhand. So ignored.

110 is too slow. Should be ~150.

This is the same unit fitted on the Indian Alto Vx 1.1 and Vxi. This was also OE in certain models of Wagon R Vx. No wonder that this looks similar to European Alto because it is made by an Indian company, Pricol, short for Premier Instruments and Control based in Coimbatore.

The refit is of the Alto Vx or Wagon R.

I think there would be not so much difference between the highways in Germany and India. To be honest some highways are very old in Germany. Stop thinking that Germany is a land of plenty. :)
Anyway I use petrol with 95 octane. Itīs difficult to get any below 95 here and if so it would have the same price as 95octan petrol.
My oil is 10w40 - you wonīt get any below here. I think it's not advisable to use too thin fluid oil for that engine. For a drive at top speed the engine should be at service temperature. It doesn't matter then if you have 10w or 20w. This value is just important for cold starting and mostly in India itīs warm. My Alto isnīt tuned (itīs hard to get any parts for that car here) and I guess every Alto in India has received a better maintenance than mine. During the 150000km (7 years) I have just changed the oil and filter every 15000-20000km. The spark plugs have been replaced once. I don't know when exactly. Same to the air filter, brake discs, timing belt and brake fluid. And now the head gasket has to be changed and my garage had closed. Anyway the Alto is really a great car. clap:



I have never heard of pricol before I got the car. Well it works fine and that is the bottom line.
