Re: Some quality niggles & Issues in Fiat Punto

I've had more bad luck with after sales. I gave my car for windshield replacement and they replaced it but the wiper stopped working. I then gave the car for wiper motor replacement and they broke the brand new windshield while doing the job. And now although I had paid from my pockets for the first windshield replacement, the service centre guys are insisting on using my own insurance to fix the windshield that they broke.
I've written to mangesh etc, but no use. Pathetic after sales from fortune andheri. And I'm 100% sure they screwed up the wiper motor just to generate more business after the first windshield job.
And although its been 3 days they still refuse to deliver the car - until I give in to their demands of using my insurance for this job - this is just unfair trade practise. As soon as I get my hands on the car I'm going to write to Rajeev Kapoor and fiat. I'm unhappy so I guess they should be as well.

Re: Some quality niggles & Issues in Fiat Punto

Do you guys think its fair that the dealership is using my own insurance policy to cover damages done by them ( they broke the windshield)?

Obviously not. Please do not succumb to this ridiculous approach. I cannot believe a dealership can behave this way. Having read your previous posts, I feel this service center is clearly taking you for a ride. I suggest you bring this to the notice of FIAT India by writing a mail to their customer service division, or have you already done that?It doesn't make sense to write to Mangesh for all issues.

I also feel that you should shift to a different service center if that is possible.

I've written to the workshop manager, the service center md, mangesh and Service@fiapl.com.
I know for a fact that these guys are taking me for a ride. But not sure if any other service centers are going to be any better. Just hoping fiat open their own asap. Orherwise i'm selling my car - a pity because the punto is one of the finest cars i've driven.

Thanks Anupam....would definitely get in touch with you. Foe the moment I am in bed-rest, so no driving my Punto for the next several days. The AC water leakage had stopped on its own. I had given a piece of my mind to the service people and they had offered a free pick up and drop to rectify the issue, but I could not spare the car for a full day.

It is the loose screw which is bothersome .

I had taken the car to Dynamic Auto in Noida sec 63, being closer to home, but they said the screw does not belong to the car! I was not too impressed with the place anyway. I have never ever seen a TATA Fiat workshop so empty, that too on a weekday. May be 2 cars in all. Or is it because I had gone there around 430 in the afternoon?

I am otherwise happy with the car and the mileage and I acknowledge a noticeable drop in power with the AC on and 5 people on board, but this was a known issue with the 1.2

The first checkup, is at 6mths/5k kms whichever is earlier. What do you suggest I should insist on checking/replacing?

Re: Some quality niggles & Issues in Fiat Punto

Not a back to back post, but, my 3 month old 2012 punto AC failed in exactly one month of being repaired. Last time, it had been to the service center was on 3rd May. There was a subsequent water leakage, which stopped on its own, and now, the AC has stopped working again, since yesterday.
No cooling at all. FIAT India are you listening? This is crazy.

The silly AC, of all things.

Spoke to Oberoi Cars a while back and they are like "Sir (stylish one, not the Saar type) this time we will ensire absolute satisfaction etc etc".

But the very thought of travelling to Noida Sec 1 makes me sick.

Re: Some quality niggles & Issues in Fiat Punto

Guys, just some weeks back, the wheel bearing of my car had gone kaput and was replaced under warranty. Now a new issue surfaces.

After a wonderful drive from Mumbai to Raigad and back, my Punto had almost reached Mankhurd (about 15 kms from my house), when it started this loud screeching noise, somewhere from the wheels. By the time I reached Powai (at 50 km/hr), the noise increased by 3 folds. Just before I was about to enter my society gate, the noise vanished...

Thank you Pintu for saving me from the embarrassment in front of my neighbours.

What could be this new issue friends? I got an appointment after 4 days. Sigh.

Re: Some quality niggles & Issues in Fiat Punto

Raj - it could be a stone chip which got stuck in between the brake rotor & pad (or in between the drum and shoe) - which got dropped as and when u reached home.

Drive it again to check / replicate the problem

Hi, I got confused as whether it was something related to the wheel bearing. If it was the bearing, then the sound must have been continuously there, not ON & OFF. In my car, the sound was coming at low speeds (below 30 kmph) and then at high speeds (above 60 kmph).

If it was a stone, I would have seen it when I checked it twice. Plus, there were no marks on the disc.

Then I called a friend who asked me whether it has just started raining. I said, yes indeed (it had started to drizzle yesterday). He says then the sound is normal and happens in his Estilo also. It comes for the fan belt which slips because of the sudden moisture and happens at certain rpm only. It only happens once, when the rain just starts.

When he said this, I feel he is right. I remember at a particular signal, I had just revved to around 3k rpm and braked. Even though the car had come to a complete halt, the sound was still there for 2-3 seconds. If its the bearing or a stone, the the sound would stop as soon as the car stops or would remain when the car is running. But in my case, it happened at certain speeds only and now I understand that it happened at certain rpm only.

Rightly so, I took my car for a spin yesterday night and there was no sound at all. Everything is fine...

With FIAT, you just get a bit paranoid!

Punto has a fan belt? or is that present in the estilo?
most probably it was from the alternator belt / ac belt (since both of these don't have any teeth)

Sorry, maybe the AC belt.

But is it normal for the AC belt in cars to make this squeaking noise in the first rain?

Raj - no! - none of our 'ac' cars make that sound when switching on AC during first rain.

but i came across Hyundai mechanics pouring drops of water on the ac / alternator belt to get rid of the sound

Re: Some quality niggles & Issues in Fiat Punto

I have a punto 1.3, june 2011 model. Off late there is slight vibration being felt on the accelerator pedal. The vibrations can be felt when I am driving only, the pedal moves swiftly when the vehicle is stationary or off. I doubt if the accelerator cable or some part is touching somewhere causing the vibrations.

Also, there is strange 'shriiling' noise coming from left front wheel whenever I turn the steering wheel towards left. The noise is for a very short duration and sound more like 'indica's drive belt' noise.

Guys please share your inputs.

How many kms has the car run ?

Maybe something is touching...did you check the insides of the mud gaurd ? The plastic liners could be the culprit..
