Hard to tell from the picture - but could it be the rear fog lights?

Hark to tell and best to check with thr owners manual, but it could mean that one of the lights on your car is not working. So check the headlamps, brakelamps, turning indicators etc, to see if they are working. If not check the bulbs.

Thanks ,for the instant replies. Its actually in my Toyota cressida 1990.I dont have the owners manual, just bought the car from a freind two weeks back,he had no manual with him.As like in all cars all the lights in the instrument panel go off once the engine is switched on,but only when i press the brake pedal this light comes on and it stays throughout the drive.

There are no parking sensors in the car, but I am not sure whether it has rear fog lamps, but isnt the marking for rear fog lamps different, kind of an inverted high beam symbol in orange colour with slanting lights, remember seeing it in the SX4 and Pajero.

Do the Brake lights on the rear stay on too after you take your foot off the brake?

Never driven a Cressida just trying to look at it logically.

Maybe its a light to denote that you have engaged your brakes??? I would never know why its required though.

A quote from Wiki...
"I saw this same indicator and contacted my local Toyota Service Dept. He stated that the orange car indicator with dash marks coming off the rear meant a Tail or Brake light(s) were out and needed a new bulb(s). Hope that helps!"

Right Rocky_Balboa. The light is "simply 'telling you' that one or more of your head light, park light, or brake light bulbs are out. This includes the 'third' brake light so check all."

Here's the link:

WikiAnswers - In your 1989 cressida you got a warning light that looks like a symbols of a car with the lights at the back What is the warning all about

Have you checked your rear brake lights/ bulb, its a warning and for the rear, so could be a taillight or bulbs failure.

Just check if every bulb at the back works including the brake ones.

Don't know about the Toyota's, but the Linea has a warning light which comes on when any of the external lights are not working. It even displays which lights you have to check on the Instrument console LCD. For example: CHECK STOP LIGHTS.
