Review : Remapped Ford Fiesta Classic 1.4 TDCi

Tuner : Kiirus
Remapped Values : Power 88 Bhp Torque 200 Nm
Price of remap : Rs. 22000

Car : Ford Fiesta Classic 1.4 TDCi with 2000+ Kms clocked after remap. ODO at 21K+.

The reason to pick this car was sheer VFM it had but only disappointment was the sluggish 68 Bhp engine. My other car being VW Vento 1.6 TDi always left a big grin after driving her on E-Ways but Fiesta Classic was nothing though her handling was very good given it had HPS.

Then heard of auto tuning which remaps the ECU and helps in increasing the power & torque figures. That triggered the search for tuners who were good at their work. Search on Google always had Kiirus as top runner and heard very good views about them.

Contacted Kiirus and they had a remap for 1.4 TDCi and price charged was very economical compared to what other tuners charge.

So after clocking 2000+ Kms on the car, I can surely say remapping has made a world of a difference. The clatter is reduced comparatively. Car pulls all the way till redline without running out of breadth. She now does nearly ~65+ kmph in second gear, so you all can think what other gears belt out.

Earlier car had a rubber band effect when you took your foot of the accelerator and again floored it, which now is all gone. Car has enough torque to pull from at any rpm and easily redlines.

Top speed is always one thing everyone has in mind, so did I. Well on an empty E-Way road, was able to hit in excess of 165+, but still had enough grunt to push ahead 170+ but better sense prevailed.

Positives:
  • Reduced Clatter.
  • No more rubber band effect.
  • Torque spread out all thoughout the rpm.
  • No more problems during overtaking due to increased power & torque.
  • Got car serviced at 20,000 Kms and no issues reported by Ford Workshop. No warranty issues.
  • Lastly FE has increased by 1.5 Kmpl in Mumbai city running. Wow, more power & more mileage.

Negatives:
  • None.

Currently the car is under tyred & need to upsize the tires to 195 60 R14 to make the driving dynamics even better with increased tire patch to complement the power.

Thanks a lot to Abhishek from Kiirus for the wonderful tuning that he has done and I certainly cannot drive a stock 1.4 TDCi any longer after the remap.

I would advice all the 1.4 TDCi owners to get their car remapped and it would make a world of a difference in cars dynamics and you will all again fall in love with the car.

Now Fiesta Classic TDCi feels better than Vento TDi. Need to get Vento TDi remapped by Kiirus sometime later.

Let me know if you all have any question. Till then. Cheers.:)

Hi el lobo,

I got my fiesta classic remapped by T.O.T here in Bangalore. Let me tell you how it runs now:
1st gear - Max 20kms/hr
2nd gear - Max 45 km/hr (Although I can pull it more but at 40kms/hr it asks to change the gear)
3rd gear - Pull till 70 km/hr ( I usually do till 55-60 km/hr)
4th gear - Around 80km/hr

I did not see and change in mileage and car feels much smoother.

I was told by Sid (from T.O.T.) that if we go beyond this then it will smoke and the Engine noise will be high.
What do you say?
Do you think I should get a more powerized remap done?

Good to know that you went for the remap instead of tuning boxes. It takes about 100 kms for the ECU to readjust to the new parameters. Give her the time. Initially you may not feel the difference, but as you clock more kilometers and ECU learns the new parameters you will start seeing the difference.

Mostly remap increase the FE say by 0.5 to 1.5 Kmpl. But its not at all necessary to see the increase. If you don't see any decrease in FE that too is a plus point. Given the Banglore traffic condition, seeing increase in FE would be very hard.

The point of remap is to have better engine acceleration and performance. FE is just bonus.

The current remap that I have Kiirus is the max without having any smoke. I would suggest you not go higher if there is smoke from the exhaust pipe. Since that would mean, you are burning more fuel and get lesser FE plus environmental damage is another.

Give your car a atleast 100-150 kms to re-learn the new ECU and I'm sure you will fall in love with her all over again.:thumbs up

Actually I got it remapped almost a month ago, :) ,and I have clocked more than 1500 kms now. I was really not concerned about the mileage and expected it to decrease. I mentioned my mileage figures because you mentioned that you gained almost a km after the remap. I have not done a dyno but sid said that it is around 85 bhp@4000 rpm and 190-195 Nm @2000 rpm and I am enjoying every bit of it :) .
I just wanted to know if we can really go ahead with a little more torque and bhp because I am not at all in a remap where I will experience torque steer during hard acceleration or run her till 65km/hr in 2nd gear like you do.

I surely got increase in FE by 1 Kmpl in normal drive. Could be because when I got the car remapped I drove a bit comfortably not pushing harder. In Mumbai traffic you can hardly drive the car above 50 Kmph.

Then I would give it to Kiirus who has done a better remap. I asked him to push the engine to the limits but draw a line that I don't get smoke under hard acceleration. So he did deliver onto it.

Certainly I can do 65 Kmph in second gear without much fuss. Also I get torque steer under hard acceleration. Need to upgrade shoes to 195 60 R14 Michelin XM2 sometime down the line to counteract the torque steer.

You can ask Sid to see if he could go further up within acceptable limits. My car is rated at 88 bhp & 200 nm torque by Kiirus on paper. Haven't dynoe'd it yet since its a costly affair.

Hi everybody,
Has dieseltronics been used by somebody on the new fiesta 1.5tdci because I want to plan the same for my ford ecosport. Also can somebody enlighten me whether this will cause any kind of damage to engine and effect the life of engine?

Hi "ecosport rules", congrats for your new car.
I would advice you to look for a remap rather than going for a tuning box.

When an ECU is remapped a number of engine processes are optimised in order to make sure your vehicle benefits as much as possible from the remap. Unlike 'tuning boxes' which are external plug-ins, the customized remaps can modify up to 15 different files within the ECU. ECU remapping is the most effective means to safely enhance the overall performance of an engine. Since these remaps and tuning boxes alter a lot of things for the engine, the best period to go for them is after some 3-4 k kms. I preferred to go for a remap after 15k but most of the people nowadays get the remap done a lot earlier. If you really want to stick to Dieseltronics box then you may contact them, they must be having one or developing one.

Thanks for the input
What about warrenty issues with the remap?
Can you help me with more details about whom to contact for the remap?

As such, there is no warranty given, but I found a lot of people who clocked more than 50k kms with the remap and had no issues at all.
Following are the contact numbers of the guys from Tune-O-Tronics:
- Siddharth 9900024134
- Vivek 9900024137

They travel across India for their job, doing custom remaps for rallies, races, etc. They are mainly located in Bangalore but you can fix an appointment when they visit Hyderabad.

I guess I have been away too long from this thread. I have clocked more than 13000 kms after fitting the tuning box and what an experience it has been.
In the default factory setting of the tuning box, as I mentioned earlier, the engine ran smoother and had a lot more grunt in the lower revs.
But, in the maximum setting, it just turns into a beast. The car felt crazy fast. There was wheelspin even when shifting up to second gear. The only bad thing in this setting was the amount of smoke that was being belched out.

I reverted back to the default factory setting after a few hours of driving like a maniac.
One more thing that I would like to add is that at one time while travelling from Mudumalai to Ooty, the ghat roads have steep turns and the hairpin bends are crazy. On these roads I was revving the engine well past 3500 rpm on each and every stretch and the engine sound was just too good. It was more like a loud rumble than the quiet hmmmm that I have gotten so used to.
I must say I am quite happy with my purchase of the tuning box.:D

Just got a new map last night, now the Fiesta is doing 205 NM from 2000 to 3300 rpm. Peak power may be around 93 bhp at 4000 rpm.
As told by Sid (from T-O-T) this is the limit of this engine, anything more than this will Tax the engine.
I am yet to test it on the highways.
The car feels lighter and ready to be revved hard. The real fun begins in third gear. It easily pulls from 1500 rpm to 3500 rpm. I don't like going past that and have red-lined it only once while climbing a hill in Kerela, on the way to Blue Ginger Resort.
The best is to change the gear to fourth at around 2800 rpm.

I would like to compare the engine noise with someone. There is some gut-gut constant noise from the engine bay when it idles at 1800-1900 rpm.
I do not remember if it was there in the beginning. Also when I switch it off after a ride, I keep it idling for some 40-45 seconds, but as soon as I switch it off, there comes a chuk chuk noise for 4-5 seconds from the engine bay. Has anyone of you experienced this?

Found this on the net when I was trying to search for a comparison of diesel tuning boxes. Taught it may be useful for people like me who are looking to choose the right one.

The Figo has definitely got better!

@ecosport rules - As far as i know the ECU of 1.5TDCI from Bosch can not be re-mapped with the ease when compared to 1.4TDCI which is from Siemens .

The Bosch ECU need to flashed in order to get the remap done which is easily identifiable and can cause warranty issues .

A quick question to everyone with a tuning box/remap: After fitting the Bluespark tuning box in the Fiesta TDCi, I have been getting a thrum from the engine starting 3000rpm. It sound good, more like a small FFE. Is this healthy for the engine in the long run. In fact the sound is so addictive that I tend to rev hard whenever I can just to hear it.
Could it be possible that I am messing up my engine?

really ? does a remap change the engine characteristics so much that, idling rpm entirely shifts to a new ball park ? that too, by ~1000 rpm ?
