2005 Model Mpfi Esteem - Acceleration Issues.

Hi all,

My friend has got an Esteem 2005 Model which has clocked 47K.
He did not find any issues with his car as this is his first car. However when few of other esteem owners took a drive on the car said that the acceleration issue.

He has given it for a service in an authorized Maruti dealer. Still the acceleration is not up to the mark.

The car is struggling to accelerate from 60 - 80 in the 3rd gear.

Come on guys .... Now could you please let me know what has to be checked and what could be wrong in the car.

The mechanic has told that the Clutch plate is replaced recently and its fine.

Thanks in Advance

Ganesh.

Is the vehicle in stock condition or he has changed tyres or rim , alloys anything of unofficial size? Other factors I can think of is bad fuel or tuning.

I don't have much technical knowledge about timing stuff but what I know is mechanics often don't speak truth. If he says clutch was replaced recently, check it yourself. Sign of worn out clutch plate is hard clutch pedal, slow pickup (as in your case) and there is a 3rd gear test which I came to from this forum. When the car is stationary, put it in 3rd gear and try to move the car. If it moves then clutch is worn and if not then its fine.

Hey Ganesh,

Probably
1) Inadequate air intake Mass Air Flow sensor or clogged air filter
2) Inadequate fuel injection- check if fuel filter is clogged with muck
3) Check O2 censor - Replce with Bosch or Denso
I Guess OEM Suzuki Esteem oxygen sensor is from Bosch not sure
4) check Fuel Pump and its wiring may be worn and results in dropping too much voltage
Also When the injector pulses are short, possible low pressure along with partially clogged injectors could be the cause.

Replace Engine Oil with Castrol Edge

Castrol Edge has ability to perform under extreme conditions, helps engine warm up and start easily. Under scorching conditions, it resists thinning, thus avoiding trouble from the engine. These translate in to better power and start-up protection.
Engine cleanliness and Fuel economy
Protecting engine power and Reduce thermal stress on the engine
Castrol EDGE 5W 40 is a fully synthetic oil

This Oil will last for atleast 20-25K Kms , I recently replaced the Clutch plates on my 96 Carb Esteem and used Castrol Edge. I noticed a Drastic change - Engine is very smooth, arrested engine noise, increased pickup and good revving.
I have tuned the Card and power valve and My car clocks >> 1st Gear-60kmph, 2nd -100kmph, 3rd-120kmph, 4th-140kmph, 5th-178kmph Top Speed

If the engine's getting bogged down and refuses to rev in 3rd from 60-80, it isn't the clutch - on the other hand, if it revs up but the car doesn't pick up speed - that's clutch.

+1 to that, if the clutch is fine.

Also check ignition timing and timing belt condition.

Well, any good synthetic oil could do that... if not better! Still, if the guy has a problem, it dosen't make sense to try and mask it with a synthetic oil. First he gotta get the pick-up to normal.

I did not mean that Engine Oil is faulty, Replacing Engine Oil is optional here and could make added performance. Yes Its Obvious that he first need to work on components instead of lubricants for pickup Issue.

My esteem used to feel under - powered between 50 - 80 kmph. Took it for a service to a MASS near my house and gave it for 40 K service and asked for throttle body cleaning. After some time I just dropped by to see that the guy had dismantled the whole asembly and was cleaning it with a toothbrush and petrol thoroughly. Asked him to replace the air filter as well.
My problem got sorted out after this.

Hi could you explain how do we do this. You said that when the car is in stop state, we need to put 3rd gear and then try to move the car. Does it mean we can rev howmuch ever and then try to move with high rev's or it has to be done in ideal rev ???

In idle engine will stall so you have to rev a bit. In my opinion the idea behind this test is that a worn out clutch will slip and hence the engine will be able to move car is 3rd gear (just like we sometimes slip clutch to get power in those lazy time and don't want to shift lower gear) .

Recently I got my esteem clutch plate changed, the sign that I looked was: hard clutch pedal
car taking longer time to accelerate
engine was running at higher RPM in lower gears.
burning smell
not able to pull on slopes with AC on and 3 people in car

After clutch change, all the above problems disappeared

Which brand of clutch plate did you go in for ? The OEM as per M.A.S.S is Ceekay and yet another one whose name I am not able to recollect now.

Are there any imported brands available for Esteem and how expensive are they ? I remember changing the clutch plate of my M800 with a Japanese brand "ASCO" which was miles ahead than the OE clutch plate in terms of smoothness and performance.
