It was 370 Rs per litre last year did not check current price , Check product data sheet at website instead of the main text it says CH4, I am pretty sure it is API-CH4 15W45 and positioned higher then CRB Turbo in Castrol hierarchy.

Toyota always claims that filling anything but it's own engine oil will have adverse effects on the engine. They even have placards placed on the reception floor - advertising the ill-effects of non-Toyota brand engine oils.

Is this true? I am asking because my Innova service is coming due, and am wondering if I should get Mobil 1 synthetic for it rather than go to Toyota workshop for their version of synthetic oil.

Not true but why risk. Are you happy with the stock engine oil poured into the Innova?

If yes, continue doing so unless there is a high price difference in what you get outside and what Toyota charges you. If your car is under warranty, do what Toyota says. After warranty expires you are the king.

If the outside oil meets the specification (grades and requirements) by Toyota then you are safe.

Look every vehicle maker will want to peddle their own oil and the ASC will insist on changing the oil as per manufacturers specification and overcharge on it.

In the warranty period there is no choice.

What I have always done is to get it changed to Mahindra Feo and after 500 to 1000 KM throw it off and change back to Castrol CRB Turbo.

In Dubai the Toyota dealer used BP Visco 2000 or 5000 which was a good oil so it was fine.

For my Honda Accord the dealer used AGIP another good oil.

If I purchased I used to buy Shell Helix Ultra 20W50.

Later the sponsorhip came from TOTAL. Their product Quartz 4X4 was the best and most suitable and I used to get it free for myself and I had plenty of free oil change coupons to give away to friends as recommendations.

Quartz 4X4 is not sold in India and anyway it was a Petrol engine oil there are hardly any petrol 4WD in India now.

I was fortunate to tour their factories in Jebel Ali and France and see the Total / Elf production very deeply.

Bought Castrol Edge 5W40 instead. Got a 4L can for INR 3100/-.
This oil is very good as compared to Selenia sold by Fiat at the service stations.

The first service for the Ford Classic (Diesel) is at 5000 kms/3 months (and the first oil change only at 10,000 kms/6 months), but many experts here have written that an oil change after the first 1000 kms is good for the new engine.. Currently I'm around 900 kms. So called up the service center personnel and he too backed the opinion of an early oil change and assured that he could make arrangements for the same and the service would cost around Rs.2200 and they'd be using semi-synthetic oil.

I'm in a total dilemma, here are my options
1. Get a paid service done at 1000 kms with oil and oil filter change.
2. Change the oil and oil filter during the first free service.
3. Strictly stick on to the manual!

Suggestions? please:

I will trust the car maker. Modern engines are capable of being driven for quite some distance before the first oil change, with no damage. 1000km change will be considered an old wives tale now.

1000km service is passe. Go by the service booklet.

Precision engineering and various alloys have considerably reduced wear and tear.

@sgiitk : Appreciate the prompt reply, I've decided to stick on to the manual and do the oil change after six months.

Change the oil and filter during 1st service at 5k kms and thereafter follow the manual.

Thanks for the input mate. As I mentioned earlier, the A.S.C will be using semi-synthetic oil as per the service personnel, but I've read that its better to use mineral oil for the first 10,000 kms. So will it be a better idea if I go on with Castrol Magnatec?


PS : The manual specifies the use of oil of grade 5W30.

Go with what the service guys say. I don't think it is a problem if you choose mineral oil at this stage. After 10K kms you can shift to synthetic if you feel the need.

My Punto was given for 90K service, but Fiat dealer refused to allow any other engine oil than PETRONAS. But I have decided to drain in out in next 5000km and put something better, now if I want to choose the best available in market which one it will be? Castrol Edge/ Shell Helix Ultra/ Mobil one Delvac or any other? please suggest..

A lot of BHPians have used Mobil Delvac 1 and found the same quite impressive. IMO you can't go wrong with that. Also the use of an engine oil flush is recommended by many senior members.
