@ Rakesh I couldn't have agreed more. My feedback post 2k capture here

The Delvac 1 is definitely the single malt brew of all CRDi's and DDIS's !!

re: All about diesel engine oils

Is it ok to mix two different brands of engine oil?

The thing is that the last time I got the oil changed for my car was through the fuel pump guys and instead of the Delvac brand that I usually opt for I only had the option of choosing Servo's 15W-40.

Now I have 1.5 liters of Servo 15W-40 remaining and I wish to purchase Delvac's 15W-40 the next time but would it be ok to mix these two?

re: All about diesel engine oils

Can any Safari 2.2 VTT owner post his experience with Shell Rimula R4 ?

Since Rimula is CI I am thinking of moving to Rimula from Castrol GTX.

Few pages back on this thread I saw some references for Shell Helix HX7 but the specification says it is CF so how come people are recommending it for
CRDI engines ? Also I found few references for HX6 but it is not there on Shell website is it still there ?

Do not know if I can post this here.
My swift vdi is near to clocking 47k.

Synth oil change is due at 47 and have a trip planned for a marriage journey distance is 800km.
Do I wait till 50k for engine oil change (synthetic used)
This helps to change to 50k from an odd 47k. Easier to sync service timings.
Gurus pl suggest.

I advise you to add mineral oil before going for the trip. Since it is going to be 800-900 kms, you car at 47K+1K (approx) = 48K. Drive it another 2K and service the car at 50K with synthetic oil.

Lighter on the pocket and peace of mind.

Thanks sir. Your long term ownership is great. Have done a top up with synthetic oil of 100 ml last month and the SA at MSM told this would suffice till the 50k mark. Is this ok approach. Do I need to top up with mineral or replace synth with mineral

If your car currently has mineral oil filled then top-up with mineral oil and if it is synthetic then top-up with synthetic. I don't think it is good to mix oils!

You can top-up with the oil or replace the whole depending on cash availability.

It's still listed on the Shell Global site, but not on the Shell India site:

http://www.shell.com/global/products...lex-15w40.html

My guess is it might still be available in the shops/Shell pumps, though.

Cheers,
Vikram

Cheers

re: All about diesel engine oils

Hi Autoheads,
I need some help. I acquired a used Fiat linea some time ago and will have to service it soon. Mean while I need to top up the engine oil .

Assuming I have no idea what kind of engine oil is in there ( synthetic or mineral):

1.What should I top up with?

2.Do I need to do an engine oil flush when I change the oil at the service?

Filled Tata Safari 2.2 VTT Dicor with Shell Rimula R4, got 7.5 liter bucket for Rs. 2250.
Filled about 7 liters and 0.5 liters is remaining, which can be used for top-ups.

This is a CI4+ oil but there is no perceptible change in smoothness or NVH.

Till now I was using stock Castrol GTX diesel ( CH4) from T.A.S.S. It lowers NVH when new atleast. Castrol GTX Diesel + Bardhal gives lowest NVH.

As per Shell website you can top-up synthetic oil with mineral oil of same grade.
This is under debunking myths section.

This is Flex (ethenol + petrol) oil and not Diesel oil.

Order it from 99RPM ..They have shipping option. Also go back a few pages. Ask some chennai members who have posted on this thread as using the Delvac 1 . They will be able to guide you

re: All about diesel engine oils

Amit you have the option for a better product.
Use CRB Turbo Castrol instead of GTX Diesel.
CRB Turbo is specially formulated for Turbo CRD diesel engines.
A 7.5 Litre bucket costs Rs. 2380
If you buy 5+1+1 it will cost 2300 which is better. The remanant .5 litre is a pain to carry and usually gets wasted.

And often there is a free gift as well with the 5 litre pack! An LED torch or an umbrella!

Amit, the safari engine does not like Shell Rimula R4. Have heard few other users also mention about the NVH. AFAIK, castrol GTX and castrol CRB turbo are the best suited oils for this truck!
