Why would you want to change your engine oil other than OEM’s recommended? Don’t fall towards wrong practice on some internet suggestions.

I think there is a misunderstanding. Let me try to explain. I never intend to change the grade of engine oil recommended by Skoda.

Your car will take VW 502 / 505, or just move to VW 504 / 507 which is for BS6 cars but backwards compatible with VW 502 / 505.

Plenty of oils in the market and all well formulated - and just meeting (with OEM approval mentioned, mind you, not just "meets these standards" vaguely printed on the can) a VW spec means the oil goes over and above the usual oil standards. 502 / 505 is over and above ACEA A3/B4 and 504 / 507 is similarly based off ACEA C3.

Shell Helix Ultra is always a good answer for any BS4 petrol / diesel, including VW.

Hi @hserus / All. This is my first post in teambhp. Please guide me if am making any mistake.

After reading this thread, I got more idea about diesel engine oils. Thanks to everyone in this forum.

I have Swift Diesel 2017 and Ciaz Diesel 2017. I decided to switch from Maruti ASS to my local mechanic who started a individual workshop after resigning his job from Maruti ASS and he deal only with servicing Maruti cars.

I read the manual for the oil specifications and it specified 5W-30 for both vehicles. I decided to switch full synthetic and after exploring the threads in teambhp. I thought to go with Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 since it would not make a big impact on my pocket.

When I told him that I would get Castrol Magnatec he asked to give him a chance to use the oil from his barrel and see the performance. He assured that his oil is full synthetic and specification is 0W-40 from Total brand. I was not agreeing to change specification apart from whats recommended in manual but he assured that it will not be a impact. So I agreed to change the oil for Swift Diesel, after seeing its performance i will change for Ciaz. He charged me 1750 in total for 3.1 litres which makes per litre around 565. But he don't have clear answer if its Total Quartz 7000, 8000 or 9000.

Can you all please confirm if i can continue using Total from his barrel or go with any other brand? My requirement is i would stick to 10000 km cycle and like to have smooth noiseless engine.

Thanks,
Prabu

Even barrels supplied by oil manufacturers will have the grade and other specs printed on them so just read what it says on the barrel maybe?

Or if in any sort of doubt then buy your own oil and have him use it.

hi all, Am thinking of experimenting with 10w30 grade CK4 oil (summer grade) of Mak lubricants switching over from 5w30 acea C3 for winter. What is general opinion in this regard ?? Won't 10w30 give better protection in summers than 5w30. Both being BS6 grade oils rated for DPF and bs6 emissions systems.

Unless you’re in eg Spiti you can use 5w30 or 10w30 as you wish year round.

Both oils will work fine for bs6 crdi engines

I was actually thinking of protection from more heat in summers and thicker oils giving more protection in conditions of engine load.

What you want is a xW40 oil even 15w40 ck4 will work fine for your use case

For people who are still looking for Mobil Delvac 1 5w/40 grade. Please let me know.

I know a dealer who had stock for 5 liter - 4 cans. Stock is Feb 2023.

I am in no way associated with the dealer. Thumbs up for a great oil even today.

Delvac1 ESP is CK4 so good for BS6 diesels as well. Who is this dealer?

I'm looking to change our BS6 Ph2 Seltos Diesel 6AT oil at the 5k interval

Hi, I’m too considering doing this for our BS6.2 Creta diesel AT. Did you go ahead with the 5k oil change? Please share your experience if you have. I was thinking of going with the mineral/regular oil and change it every 5k kms as I drive everyday in Bengaluru traffic (which meets the severe driving conditions per the owners manual).

As I recall Seltos bs6 has a 0w20 acea c5 which is a particularly thin oil, but also required for some modern engines.

I checked with the Hyundai service centre here in Bengaluru and they informed that they are now using Shell 5w30 oil (they have both regular and synthetic oil of the same grade) for the Creta diesel BS6.2. Would this be a better oil in terms of engine protection (as it is thicker than 0w20) for our conditions?

Depends on what the spec of this 5w30 is. If it is acea c2 or c3 go ahead preferably c3

How are Gulf diesel engine oils in particular? Asking this because Force uses Gulf engine oils for their entire portfolio.

Nothing wrong with them. Should be fine to use.

Hello, sorry I missed your post earlier.

No, I didn't end up doing it eventually. When I spoke with the Kia Service Manager, he advised against it given that the car is BS6 ph 2. Though he did say that he would recommend it for BS6 ph 1 diesels.

That said, I think I would have preferred to have changed the oil at 5k for my peace of mind (oil dilution worries me) and in all likeliness I would start doing it from 15k onwards.

Btw, did you go ahead with it? Regarding mineral vs synthetic oil, he mentioned they are using semi synthetic oil, didn't probe much on whether or not only mineral or synthetic should be used. I too feel a thicker grade oil in our hot conditions might do better, but I don't want to deflect from the recommended grade.
