This is the bill of the latest 90k service done by Ford ASS. It just says 5W30 engine oil. Going by the rate they've charged, I feel it wouldn't be anything to write home about.

Should be the Castrol semi synthetic - just a bit cheaper than retail because Ford dealers will buy 250 litre drums of it. It is a decent, value for money oil and will surely last 7-8k km with good smoothness though you can stretch to 10k km.

It is for my Aspire Tdci run 40k kms. It is a 2017 car and I have been changing the oil every year from the A.S.S although the car would have run less than 10k kms.
I don't want to do that going forward and instead change at every 10k kms whenever that happens, outside the A.S.S using FS oil.

The engine is re-mapped as well if that makes any difference.
I am on the same boat, however when I had the remap done at EE, I also got the yearly service done. Jayant recommended Motul X tec 5W40. Been on this oil for about 1500kms now, can confirm the diesel clatter has come down. Going to try polytron additive next time around, also recommended from EE.
If you are still stuck on going with shell, could try this.

The motul is a very good oil though rather high on additives. Please don’t add any further additives to it - cars don’t need it when you have a good fully synthetic oil.

Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 that you mentioned seems to be phased out but huge stocks are still available with distributors and dealers, so should be there for another year or two easily. Newer shell oils are 0wXX weight so they’re also suitable for for BS6 engines.

Thank you that helps alot. Not going to try the additive in that case.
I own the bs4 tdci at the moment, so would 0W30 oil from shell be a good choice? Only asking because I have a couple of long drives scheduled in peak summer just worried about the temps and want to be extra careful.
Could only find this on Amazon, however I will be visiting them soon to enquire in person.

That same thing is available in just about every shell pump. Won’t hurt your car though you may find yourself changing oil a little earlier for a remapped engine.

Plenty of good 5w30 a5b5 or a3b4 oils on the market though - Castrol magnatec, valvoline all climate advanced or Mobil super 3000

Re: All about diesel engine oils

I am currently using Castrol RX Super Turbo in my Tata Safari 2.2 Dicor, It costed me 3000 Rs for 7.5 Liters. The oil has made the engine absolute gem. Earlier was using Shell Helix HX6 which made the engine sound coarse.

Re: All about diesel engine oils

I have the 2016 Ford Endeavour 3.2.

I want to know which engine oil to use . It doesn't have DPF .

Is the Castrol MAGNATEC Stop Start 5W 30 full synthetic oil , API SP ACEA C2 good , as it seems A5 B5 isn't available.

Or Shell HX8 5W 30 API SN PLUS / SN , ACEA A3/B4 is a better option.

Which will offer better performance.

For engines without DPF, a high SaPS oil like A5B5 or A3B4 would do.
A3B4 is of higher HTHS (high temperature high stress) viscosity, hence it is supposedly having stronger components wear protection in abrasion and adhesion wear.

Having said that, a mid-SaPS oil in C2 is far superior to high SaPS A5B5 oil in (laboratory) engine test regimes with higher quality base oils and additiva package. Hence it can replace A5B5 in your application. It is a non-brainer IF they are at similar price points and availability.

Toyota fills a semi synthetic 5w30 not 15w40 as far as I am aware?

Here in my country Philippines they use 15w-40 even if the manual states 5w30 (preferred). My car is still under warranty by the way.

Re: All about diesel engine oils

Tata Hexa CL4 Plus 15w4
Which brand?

The Authorised centre bill mentions GTX Pro CL4 Plus 15w40. But this doesn't seem available outside

Castrol Magnatec Diesel 15w40 API SN?
Shell Helix HX7 10w40?

Re: All about diesel engine oils

GTX Pro is a castrol branded mineral oil. It is CI4+ (I for India not L for Lion)

You can get any CI4+ or higher rated oil (CJ4, CK4) - most mineral such as Mobil Delvac MX or Shell Rimula R4, but some synthetic (Amsoil 5w40 for example).

Tell you the truth for the Hexa engine any decent 5w30 or 5w40 engine oil such as Shell Helix Ultra will work quite well and provide even smoother performance than mineral 15w40.

Re: All about diesel engine oils

Hello all,

I posted about this in the Nexon thread as well, but this seems to be a more relevant thread,
For BS6 Nexon Petrol Engine, i know tata Recommends 0W20 Fully Synthetic Oil, and the recommended brands are GTX T 0W20, Mobil Super 3000 TM 0W20 and PETRONAS Syntium 7000 TM 0W20.
Since I am not aware of other specifications does any one know if we can use -
1- Shell Helix HX8 Az 0W20
2 - Shell Helix Ultra SN 0W-20

or would it cause any issues?
