Give it a try, it is rather expensive though. Rs. 1350 for a quart (946 ml).
Won't the Shell Helix HX8 5W30 work for him?

API SN+/SN

Good old Honda iDTEC is quite happy with 5w40 A3/B4 like Shell Helix Ultra.

But Honda changed their guidance to use low viscosity 0w30 / 0w20 oils quite a few years back, though I doubt their engines have seen any substantial upgrade in the meantime. All they have achieved is to switch their service interval to every 6 months.

For a standard iDTEC if the engine has not changed since around 2014 when they changed the guidance, go ahead and just pour Shell Helix Ultra 5w40.

I have a 09' Fiesta 1.4TDCi with 1.54L on the odo and have been using 5W-30 so far largely mineral but have switched to synthetics off late. I am currently running on Olipes Averoil 5W-30 that is API SN/CF ACEA C3 (yes it is a less known brand but it's from Spain).

For the next oil change I am contemplating Mobil 1 full synthetic 5W-30 Newer Vehicle Formula that is rated at API SN,SM and CF with ACEA A1/B1. Wondering if should pick up the top of the line Mobil 1 full synthetic 0W-40 with API SN,SM and CF with ACEA A3/B3, A3/B4 instead?

While I am not concerned about the 0W rating, the 40 v/s 30 is what is bothering me. In theory since my engine has put up good amount of miles a slightly thicker oil should not be a concern but thought of having a quick check with you.

Re: All about diesel engine oils

Fiesta needs ACEA A5/B5 5w30 or rather a specific Ford grade that has some additives and minor changes over A5/B5

I did not experiment with other grades of 5w30

Newer Vehicle Formula or not A1/B1 is a very old standard and was superseded years back by A5/B5

Try Amsoil Signature Series 5w30 which is A5/B5 if the full synthetic bug is biting you.

Re: All about diesel engine oils

I own a Baleno 1.3 ddis and my vehicle is due for its 90k kilometer service. Ever since a premature timing chain wear at 55k,i have been religiously sticking to 5000 kilometer engine oil and filter change. Till the 80000km mark, my vehicle was filled up only with the OEM recommended MGDO of 5w-30 or 5w-40 grades. For the last 5000km oil change, I tried Castrol Magnatec 5w-30 and was somewhat satisfied with the oil. However I am contemplating shifting to using Mobil 1™ FS X2 5W-40. Any suggestions and advices regarding my choice of oil? Any good oil brands other than Mobil and Castrol for the Ddis engine? The user manual specifies 5w-30 grade oil to be used . I have noticed that the use of 5w-40 grade oil slightly reduces the engine clatter.

If Castrol Magnatec isn’t working for you, try Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 or Shell HX8 5w30 (or Shell Taxi 5w30 which is an excellent oil despite saying it is suitable for Taxis)

Or Amsoil Signature Series 5w30 if you don’t mind the expense.

Shell doesn’t have any synthetic diesel oil available in India. Mobil Delvac 1 5w40 ci4+ or Amsoil 5w40 turbo truck CK4 will both work very well for your Scorpio.

Is 'Shell Helix Ultra' 5W40 NOT synthetic? This is recommended, whenever we ask for 'Synthetic' options for Swift VDi.

That is not a diesel specific oil (which can be used in cars and SUVs but is generally used for trucks, tractors etc as well). It is a dual use oil for small petrol and diesel engines.

More to the point it is not a recommended grade / specification for the Scorpio.

Re: All about diesel engine oils

Motul also has a diesel specific oil - https://boodmo.com/catalog/part-engi...plus-52056717/

15w40 CI4 so a slightly elderly spec but good enough for most Indian cars that have a minimum of CH4.

And this Hyundai OEM oil Xteer (which fully enough Hyundai doesn't seem to use in India, relying on Servo and Shell instead) looks reasonably similar to what I make of Maximile FEO from the Boodmo description a 5w30 and from a UK XUV manual, equivalent to ACEA C3 rated oils (all in previous posts on this thread)

Re: All about diesel engine oils

Is it safe to buy engine oil from Amazon? No fear of any counterfeit stuff?

My Hexa's 20k / 1 yr service will be up in a couple of weeks. Current mileage is 7300+ and could add another 1k+ km before service. So I have to stick to mineral oil for now.

Want to go for Mobil Delvac. Being sold on Amazon

https://www.amazon.in/dp/B08GSYZBYW/...v_ov_lig_dp_it

Is it safe to go for it or should I try offline? Plus can't find any retailers nearby in Mumbai.

Get stuff sold by 'Cloudtail India' + Prime (if available).

I've purchased oil sold by Cloudtail and no issues were found.

Re: All about diesel engine oils

I made a blunder. Instead of 15w-50 for my XUV500, I used 0W-30 Helix Protect from Shell. They have a 5W-40 also, but lets just say I wasn't thinking straight. What is the recommend course of action? Drain it out and fill it up with a W-40?
