Finally... I had given up all hopes about this thread, it seemed to have gone into a deep slumber.
@ Saptarshi and sierrakamat: Great going guys, the metallic grey looks good. I believe this shade was offered as standard on the Sierra at some point in time. I have seen a few first-gen Sumos too having this color (probably because they would be manufactured during the same time period).
@ sierrakamat: As far as I remember, the Sierra from which we salvaged my seats and dashboard (the one that was broken up at Kurla) was of exactly this color. Lets just say Saptarshi's Sierra is a reincarnation of that vehicle.
I see you guys followed the same color scheme for the interiors as what was done in my Sierra. Is it the same dotted material? What about the seats? New cushions/covers?
@ Saptarshi: Change the headlamps man, they look really tired. Since your car uses the inset rectangular CV-type beams, I think you can go for the new clear-lens type beams found on the latest Tata LPT 1109 EX. They look really good, and clear-lens will give you better visibility and light throw. Heres a picture:
@ condor: That logo on the grille is an original and authentic one, and quite a rare one at that. It was created in the mid-nineties when the erstwhile TELCO faced some issues with the original logo. It seems some European company making auto parts had a similar logo, which TELCO found out only when they decided to start exporting their cars to Europe. To avoid confusion in the minds of their European customers, TELCO was forced to go for the change. To make production easier, this new logo was also adopted for the domestic market for a short while. But TELCO reverted back to the old one shortly, possibly to avoid a major re-branding exercise in the domestic market. This logo was then continued only for the European market.
Sadly, I can't remember the name of the European company, though it is quite famous (I had once come across it in a logo quiz someone sent me). The name Talbros comes to mind, but I'm not sure.
Just search "Telco Sport" in Google images (Telco Sport is the European export version of the Sierra) and you will see that all the cars have this logo.
@ Saptarshi: I would suggest you remove that logo and keep it safe, since it is rare and hard to find. As condor suggested, get the old logo with the squarish 'T' and put it on, that way even if some prankster removes/breaks it you wont feel the loss, as it can be bought and replaced easily for cheap. Just my 2 paise.
@ kaustubh: Doctor Kamat has been sharpening his knives for you for quite some time. Get ready, you're next...
