driving without engine oil refiller cap

Couple of days back, after getting my car serviced i was topping up the engine oil and forgot to put back the cap on the engine oil filler hole.

i drove the car for about 11 kms at an average speed of 50 kmph. once i realised my foolishniess i pulled up and replaced the cap, which was luckily still there on top of the engine.

the were only minute sprinkles of oil and nothing else.

i hope no damage is done to the engine.

PS: the engine bay was clean as it was washed during service and i didn;t drive through dirty/muddy terrain.

your take please!

I do not think this would have any adverse effect. Breathe easy, mate

Do not worry nothing would have happened. Good that you realised and drove only a few kms.

Not experienced on cars. But, on my Bullet Electra (oil sump and tank at the bottom of the crankcase) if you remove the filler hole cap, it reduces the back-pressure (piston moving downwards) off the breather and its thump changes and sprays tiny oil particles from the hole. Situation is hard to miss with a good pair of ears. Also not sure, how the oil pump would "pressurize" the tank if it is leaking at the top... ?

Probably, not much harm if you happen to correct before engine oil is dangerously below the minimum mark due to splash and you did not notice temp indicator redlining.
