Front Glass broken. What to do now?

Hi guys,
Very bad day for me My WagonR front glass was broken by coconut fall. It has hit at the center bottom of the glass. What to do now. Is it suitable to claim insurance or to purchase a new glass? Last November i renewed my insurance. How much does a new glass cost? Please advice.

Thanks,
Ramki.

it costs 5850 for the swift, out of which 5100 will be paid by insurance. This was the quote I got from Windshiled experts.

WagonR windscreen should be cheaper I suppose.

you will have to pay 500 as per the clause plus a little for the sealant. claiming it from the insurance company makes more sense to me.

Hey ramki, You can go to JC road and get best deals on the glass. It costs in the range of 1000 bucks and odd depending on the quality of glass. I dont think you have to claim your insurance for such a small work. You can gain on NCB also when you dont claim insurance. Though i am not sure of the saving amount on NCB.

Definitely claim for it.

DO not go for these 1000 bucks glasses. as they are not laminated and will cause serious injuries in case of breakage.

Front glasses are things that should not be compromised whatsoever.
Get a MGP glass.

In my opinion you should get the claim and get the glass changed at MASS. Local guy may use bad quality windshield adhesive causing problem like water leakage or even glass falling off when applying sudden brakes, sound funny but it happens.
Always use good quality glass brands like Asahi, local glass will cost much less but avoid them at any cost.

I would go the M.A.S.S way if i were you as this is one of those things which is better left for the experst to do. for matters of continued safety .

I would suggest getting the windshield replaced from the M.A.S.S.
A lot of people also seem to have good opinions of Windshield Experts, so that option is also worth trying. If you go through WS, and want to claim insurance, they would help you out with the same as well.

Windshield and its replacement need to be done neatly, else a shoddy job will come with its own share of problems in the future.

M.a.s.s

My!- that does look nasty. I guess the best thing you can do is to approach the Maruti authorized service center to replace the windshield. Insurance is obtainable (60% ? I think).
The windshield should come to around 5000-5500 I guess (Being of smaller dimensions)
Never go in for cheaper variants, keeping in mind the safety issues.

And last of all- never park under coconut trees, or stand under one.

Insurance covers 100% for glass. What you would need to pay for will be the sealant and adhesive, which would come to about Rs. 800-900.

1. You can go to either A.S.S. or Windshield Experts. IMO Windshield Experts are masters in this job. No Hassles, cashless and they will do it in about 2 hours time. An A.S.S. might take a day or more plus costs slightly more (in case of Hyundai the A.S.S. changes the rubber beading too which isnt required and hence the higher quote).

2. Claiming Insurance will depend on the NCB which you currently have. If it is in the range of 40 - 50% then you might consider paying yourself too. In one of my cars the quote is Rs. 6500 from Windshield Experts but the NCB is 50% so I plan to pay for it on my own.

3. Dont think of these windshields costing in the range of Rs. 1000. They maybe laminated but are chinese made and their quality is really doubtful. Plus you have no idea how will the oncoming light dither through it.

4. Even if you are able to source the OEM windshield from outside (you can), I wouldnt advice the same. Though the cost works out to be about 50 - 60% cheaper, actually it is the installation which matters. Have heard of noise, water leakages etc. in such cases.
