Brake warning light comes on while accelerating

Another wierd issue thats cropped up recently, lately while accelerating either from a stop or after changing gears, the handbrake light/ brake warning light flickers on for a second and then turns off

Does anyone have any inputs about this odd behaviour ? As far as i can see there isnt any relation between the two (brake light and acceleration)

check your brake fluid level. In most cases the fluid level must be low

yeah, my palio is giving a similar problem, just started a few days back.

It also comes on during high G maneuvers (by road car standards, lol)

no clue why its there

^yeah something like that , when the car first starts moving the acceleration is a bit sharp and it comes on then.

Methinks that the wire harness of handbrake switch is cut/cracked. Had similar problem cropping up in my old Maruti Zen while it was rally prepared in 1994.
Check the wire leading from the handbrake position switch and you will find that some portion is exposed or cracked leading to transient earthing and hence such flickers. If not that then trace this wire back looking for insulation weakness.
If this is common phenomena in Palio then it is reflecting bad workmanship.

i had faced the same issue on my palio. The light always came on when takeing high G turns. it turned out to be a loose the cable connecting the sensor. ( lid of the brake fluid container).

Probably a loose wire then ? I had my brake booster changed about 4k kms back , so i dont think the fluids would have gone too low (unless theres a leak) so guess theres a loose connection after the work was done

The Fiat workshop told me (I assume you are talking about a Palio) Clutch and brake use the same fluid. If brake fluid is low,you might see this issue. Its very easy to check if brake fluid is low. A small white plastic like container on RHS is easy to access. In my vehicle its cap is yellow in color.

Your brake fluid may be just on the margin level.

And check the brake actuating mechanism under the car. The leak may be very small. Difficult to notice as the it may leak only when you are actuating the brake.

I did check the brake fluid level and it was well above minimum. Will take it to TASS sometime this week and post an update

Adding to that , does seem to be a loose connection somewhere, it seems to pop on even at low rpms during initial acceleration and also while going up and down slopes.

Top up Brake/Clutch fluid!

This happenned on my MJD. The warning light would go on when I would take a really steep slope or when I would use the clutch while accelerating hard. A simple top-up of brake fluid solved the issue. Another MJD owner on the forum (DrMessiah) had the same problem with the same solution.

Re: Brake warning light comes on while accelerating

I know I'm replying to a really old thread, but I thought it would be useful for someone searching for solution to similar issue.

I faced the same issue with my 2011 Ford Figo last month. The hand-brake light would start glowing (accompanied with the warning chimes) whenever car would accelerate. I thought it to be a loose wire connection or sensor and did not pay much attention. However, I experienced that the frequency of this went increasing over the period. Last week, the light would remain on much more than off.

Searching on the Internet, I came to know this could be related to brake-fluid level. Took the car to an FNG and found out that the fluid was almost fully leaked out !!! The mechanic got the brake lines checked for leakages and found some misaligned washers in rear brake assembly. Got those fixed and fluid topped up. The problem got fixed and has been holding good till now.

So my recommendation is to not ignore this symptom assuming it to be loose connection. Please get it checked ASAP. HTH.

Re: Brake warning light comes on while accelerating

I tend to agree with phillipose. Most probably the surge during acceleration is due to the fluid level going lower. This should be the first things checked.
