I know its basically remove screws, remove filter from box, blow air into filter element, replace, but a nice pictoral guide like tyre bhagwans recent series would be really nice.
Anyone up to the task?
greenhorn i would love to do that but have college till 4 tomorrow. so if light permits i will definitely do it. :D
That would be really helpful to people over here pal. I ll try it myself though sometime.
BTW, can somebody guide me if there is an alternative to blowing pressurised air? as its difficult to get pressurised air at home. I tried with the foot pump at home. It was not worth the cleaning. Dusted it on the wall and put it back.

Greenhorn, was about to create a new topic on "HOW to clean air filters".
As i posted yesterday, i was facing some problem with my Verna(now rectified though).
Did a DIY today. Cleaned the air filter.Did not have acces to pressurised air so tried some desi "jugad"..
Patted the filter on the floor about a hundred times and got rid of atleast half a kg of dust.lol. Not sure whether its an advisable practice but is really useful considering its a DIY.
srikant, try this method, pretty useful.
Sorry did not take pics though.
P.S. I advice all of you to clean the air filter after an interval of 2000km or 3 months as you guys are well aware of the dusty indian atmospheric conditions.

No need to remove any screws even. Atleast in my car.
Take it to any service station where they wash cars and use the compressed air for free :D
your talking about oe filters? there is already a guide for conicals.
@ akshay1234 : we are talking about OE filters here. any thread with pics on that already?
Here is how I do an OE filter clean:
Remove OE filter, deposit it in dustbin.
Install new filter.
OE or paper filter elements are not designed to be cleanable. Blowing compressed air may damage the filter element and allow dust to enter the intake causing engine damage over time.

I'm not sure, but I'm guessing the common home vacuum-cleaner could help here - most of them have a 'blower' attachment that usually goes into where the air's exhaled from the machine.
P.S. - Even otherwise, can't one of the brush attachments be used to clean the filter ?
Any one tried cleaning air filters for SX4. Not able to locate them.:Frustrati

i totally agree to that,Gaurav
and usually these OE filters are damn cheap
even if i have to change one in 2 months,it wont hurt at all.
so why take chance,let the engine breathe well

The new TATA Safari (2.2) filter from MAHLE costs 600 Rs. I don't think it's cheap !!!
