Let us reconstruct the mount :thumbs up

1. The mount cylinder with the first alloy piece in place

2. The second alloy piece on top of the first

3. The locking plate

Once the locking mechanism 1 is in place and sealed, the rubber part is molded on the top and mount assembly is ready

From what I have seen from all this is, the mount life mostly depends on the rubber part on the top. Once the rubber part weakens it gets cut at the place where the engine is mounted on it.

And any engineering which Honda claims has to be the quality of this rubber part mostly

That's about the story of the mount!! Thanks folks for reading :thumbs up

:) Those were the Hass advisors words though i do believe he is not technically incompetent but maybe he meant the rubber part which acts as a spring to cushion the impact of shocks. Either way the Honda mount has a 6 month guarantee and i have been promised it will last much longer.

Even the rubber part is a solid piece and there is no space for it to cushion anything, it just acts like a tight lid! I guess it takes the engine vibrations and passes on to those alloys submerged in oil and something happens lol: and our cars run smooth :uncontrol

What would be interesting to see is if there has been any significant design change to the revamped mount. I did a visual inspection of a newer civic and the mount looks pretty much the same. I don't think it's easy to source a honda mount outside of A.S.S do probably the aftermarket ones are available in a wide range of quality.

I did a delhi to Agra drive via the yamuna expressway. Everything was super smooth and comfortable. Really missed having cruise control on my civic. Witnessed a tyre burst incident first hand, the car being a Wagon R, veering out of control in seconds, but no one was hurt thankfully.

This short road trip got me thinking. I've got two trips in line in the second half of the year, first one being a Pune - Bangalore - Coorg, most probably in my friend's 4 year old Civic and the big one, Delhi - Goa - Delhi in my 8 year old Civic.
I've gone through the essentials for road trip thread, but I was wondering if there's anything extra to be kept in mind wrt the Civic, especially now that it's a discontinued aging machine. I'm looking for Civic specific inputs, especially from those who've clocked one too many miles on theirs, trundling down highways.

I don't think anything specific is needed for the Civic. Keep a air pump handy. My car's both fan motors went kaput. If your's are original stock still and since your car has clocked 100K + Kms + i think, maybe it's time you change these motors as having them kaput can have you in trouble especially on the Ghat sections.
Check the serpentine belt for wear or noise replace if necessary. And there is always the battery and tyres like every other car there which should be checked out along with alignment and balancing.

The fan motors are pretty much in shape as per the Honda A.S.S. My car had been submerged in water in 2012 and there was a hefty bill. So I'm guessing they were replaced then. If it ain't broke why fix it?

Isn't the serpentine belt checked during service? What about fuses? Has anyone faced issues with them going kaput? Personally I've had none but is it necessary to stock spares?

I am having a strange issue recently. Last month when I was driving from Bangalore to Chennai I stopped in Kanchi and left the mobile charging for a few minutes with the engine turned off. When I tried to start car didn't crank. I removed the charger waited a few minutes and the car started. I traveled to chennai and back and didn't face the issue again.
Car was parked for almost 20 days and it started easily in 1 crank when I took it out at a traffic junction again same thing happened when my mobile was charging and the engine turned off.

I plugged the obd and the voltage is adove 13.1v I am not sure if I should go for a battery replacement or if its the mobile charger causing the issue. Any pointers?

I was going through the service and other expenses I incurred for my Civvy till date.

Kilometres Run =1,25,000 KMS, 8 years.

Service Costs
Service + schedule replacement of components = Rs 93,618
Cost of maintaining Civvy as per schedule = 93,618/1,25,000 = 0.75 Rs/Km clap:

Add to this the expenses for wear and tear items like tyres, brake pads, wipers, etc.. till 125K Kms and 8 years

Wear & Tear Items
Tyres = Rs 49500
Brake Pads and Rotors = Rs 18100
Wiper blades = Rs 3400
Engine Mounts (All three, front twice) = Rs 28000
Suspension = Rs 36000
Battery = Rs 10800
Total Wear and Tear item costs = Rs 1,45,800

Cost of Wear and Tear = 1,45,800/1,25,000 = 1.17 Rs/Km

Considering Civvy costs me under 2 Rs/Km other than fuel is just commendable. Speaks volumes of how this guy is built and easy on us to maintain :thumbs up

While these figures are nice but if you were to see from a more a wider angle , i feel and that the Civic is a fairly expensive car to own. With a price tag of 14 Lakhs, it's no easy car to buy
and maintain. Maybe i was just plain unlucky but i have spent more than what you have on my pre-owned Civic in the 3.5 years that i have had it. I have not even calculated the cost of fuel and insurance costs .

In the end it depends on how the car was used, so i guess mine was a pre-abused rather than pre-worshipped before i bought it. I believe it's just like any other and can be expensive to maintain. Many parts if bought OE are insanely expensive, OE mount 9K from Honda, Ignition coils around 4k each Honda OE and there are 4 of them, brake pads 5-6K for front set etc.

I just don't want people to think that it's all going to be rosy and that it's a Honda and nothing will go wrong and even if it did it will be economical to fix, because i was one of those people who thought so and in a way a part of me does regret buying this car. But then as i said it's just my luck.

I hope Lalu sir you don't take this offensively, but i just want to point out that the civic can be expensive to maintain.

No offenses Sir. This thread is to share experiences, and learn, not to prove any points. If I were to give figures till 1.2 lakhs, probably it would have been 50K INR less.

So any body who picks it up in the second half of its life, will see higher costs obviously. For me it averages out well, since its right from the beginning.

I would like to hear from manim, since I believe he is the highest mile cruncher amongst us.

Regarding insurance I believe these days its about 8K INR per year.

Anybody with Yoko Earth on Civic?
What's the feedback if any?

I have also been very lucky (don't have the exact figures on hand). Nearing 8 years old, apart from the routine services I never had any other significant expenses. (And not even a fuse blown so far).

And the car is still silky smooth!

Though I did 1,28,000 kms in the first six years, in the past two years the car has been mostly sitting idle (odo now at 1,37,000+).

But I predict high running soon!
(My child might go to college in Chennai this June 2015 and since Train/Bus-tickets are generally hard to get, I might opt for regular Civic rides to Chennai (1,200 kms up+down from my home).

Lalu Sir, though I do not have a benchmark as I bought the car used and it was already shod with Pirelli P4 Four Seasons tires but what I can say is that they are good. The road noise is almost non existent and I have found the grip to be good. Never lost traction. Having ABS does help but still the grip levels are never a worry. Also Pirelli claims to have better wet grip due to double central longitudinal grooves. The car has done more than 20K kms as of yet on them and they look good for at least 15K more. I think its a medium compound tire.

Regards,
Saket

Got these in 195/65 very recently (2k kms back). Overall good tyres for the money paid. Low noise, sufficient grip (MRF ZLO is better in this aspect), good comfort (on par or better than ZLO).

Haven't pushed them yet to the limits, but look VFM.
