I have a civic done 75000 Kms, was sending to service station every 5000 kms but decided to send to service only at 80000 kms (after 10,000 Kms) from now on. Tire life is 30,000 Kms and brake pad losts 35,000 Kms. Once had a problem with brake caliper other than that the mileage is 11 kmpl. Overall reliable vehicle but 5000 kms service interval is ridiculous for me as the service station is 90 Kms away, Diesel cars are providing 10,000 Kms to 20,000 Kms for service interval i don't understand Honda insisting on 5000 Km service interval that too for a petrol car.

Again this is IMHO only but i think 5k service is only a routine checkup if you can afford to go then you should otherwise 10K is ok.
In your case if you change from mineral to synthetic then you can easily go after 10 and may be 15K.
One of my friend has a lancer and because of his business he can not do 5k service interval so he opted to go for synthetic oil and 15K service interval and he is very happy with that and no issues so far.

Even I think service every 5K is fine. Just confused about the 3 months thing, as I have just done 2K after the previous service.

Meh. Minor services are ~900. I get a free interior clean with that. Sure, it's one day gone, but I'm still meh about it. They are fine with longer change intervals for synth, so I'm gonna let it go like this until the end of warranty.

There does not appear to be any problem with longer service intervals, but issue is the warranty. I have had some warranty problems, especially with the auto belt tensioner and for each warranty claim, they insist on proper previous service record. The dealer can't do much about it, they have to pass the papers to Honda, I believe.

Now that my 2+2 warranty is soon getting over, probably I will go to 6 months/5k km or maybe even 12 months/10k km, if I do not notice any problems.

Service every 3 months or 5000 kms MUST

As per Honda you HAVE to give it for service every three months even if you drive zero kms.

Personally, I always manage to drive the exact kms before my time is up .
Nearing three years and 60K kms, I am exactly at Honda's minimum running.

(I will be going for my 60K service in around one month and will post details here).

I think Honda have doubled the service/oil chnge intervals to 5000/10000 and also doubled the period. This 500 thing was a mutual benefit plan of Honda and dealers. afaik the oil firms say that 10,000 is on with any oil at API-SF or higher. Today API only has SJ, SL and SM are current specifications.

I think once a year/10000km is Ok. I have done it with my cars for the past decade and a half with no apparent ill effects.

Not yet, they still insist on the 5000kms or 6 months change interval. For synthetic, as per latest Honda service circular, the intervals remain the same (wonder why!!). Will try to get my hands on that circular next time.

They recommend synthetic only for engines which have 'heavy' running, read as excess of 5000 kms within 6 months.

Someone told me that if you dont give your car for service every 3 months, which is what Honda recommends, then Honda can void your warranty. Is this true??

It didnt happened in my case and I am following service after every 5000 km but not the 3 month or 6 month schedule sometimes it is less than 3 months and some times it is more than but always less than 6 month for sure.
I have replaced one main part in power windows with in warranty and I also have extended warranty.

Honda CAN. Whether or not you will lose it depends on the dealership.

The above quote is from another thread, but I thought I'd ask the question here. I have read about this engine mount problem elsewhere too. Can anybody tell what the issue was? What was wrong, and what were the symptoms? Should I ask the service center to do a check up?

It's a known issue with Civics. The dog mount at the top with hydraulic fluid fails early. It's a 6k+tax part. Symptoms are startup and shutdown rattles, rattles when you hit small potholes at medium speeds and a general feel of bogging down when you apply or release throttle suddenly.

I complained about front right suspension noise and they diagnosed as this issue. Ordered part for warranty replacement right away. The entire staff changed by the time the part arrived and it was given to another car. Another month later, it arrived again finally and was changed.
