By the way, how is the pick-up and mileage? For instance, mine (Jul 2010 V M/T, 32660 kms) has got a creaking clutch pedal which HASS refuses to lubricate (they want to replace the clutch pedal assembly which is absolute nonsense) but is rewarding me the best mileage I've ever seen - always above 10.5 kmpl in city driving with mixed AC usage and always above 13.5 kmpl on the highway. Pick-up is also very good, so I know that the clutch itself doesn't need replacement yet. It's just the pedal that needs some TLC.
Oops! I was banking on 3M to get rid of this for me on my car. In Hyd I used to wash the car myself around 2/3 times a week and ensured good drying. In Gurgaon now, the car has for the past 1.5 years been at the mercy of the colony car cleaner and the very hard supply water. The deposits especially around the quarter glass panes/beadings, ORVM edges, front grille, bumper crevices, fog lamp enclosures and windshield base are quite visible on a black car. :(
The body treatment guys at HASS said it's quite easy to get rid of them, but I didn't ask them exactly what they would do. The reason I trust what I heard is because it came from a cleaner and not a supervisor/SA. I plan to get this done next month. Let's see.

I tried something daring, and happy to report it worked ( I am reporting this after a month's observation, so no long term harmful effects to the paint). . After failing with upmteen cleaning solutions, vinegar etc, I used "Pure Descale powder" that came with my Samsung washing machine and voila, my four year old car looks four years younger !
The process I followed is as below.
1) Dissolved one pack (100 g) Pure descale powder in 1 lit of water.
2) Squirted fee drops on to an extra soft bristle tooth brush.
3) Used the brush to gently rub the hard water stains from all nooks & crannies.
4)Rubbing softly back and forth for about 30 seconds did the trick for all painted surfaces (below the window sill beading, door stip, below the side view mirror mounting points, around door handles, gap between bumper & body panels etc). I kept wiping off any spray that got around the area being worked for fear of spotting the paint / polish.
5) It took a little more rubbing and elbow grease (arond 1 to 2 minutes) to get hardened, baked in stains from the glass and chrome.
6) Rinsed all areas worked with water and wiped dry.
Note: I missed to rinse one door mirror mount and next day (after about 16 hours) I saw to my horror, a faded drip path running along the fender all the way to the bottom, as if the paint has been attacked. What a relief it was when the residue just came clean by wiping with microfiber. I still wanted to esure that the paint finish is not affected, and hence I waited for a month before reporting this. I do have before and after pictures, but being a newbie toTeamBHP, I am not allowed to post them yet. I am sure this is one solution many fellow BHPians will be keen to try in place ike Bangalore with hard water, especially ifyou have a dark color car. |
