Hi all,

I recently purchased a used Laura 1.8 TSI. Needless to say, the car is immense fun to drive. However, a couple of issues have cropped up.

1. A/C compressor has gone weak. Might need to change this. Any idea on the cost?

2. Since the car has done over 1L Kms, I'm kind of worried about the timing chain. Even though its a crucial part, there are no warning to give a heads up. Skoda is not helping me out yet since the car transfer has not happened yet.
How much would this cost? Should i get it replaced before it fails?

Hey there, did you actually buy a Skoda with 1 LAKH kms on the ODO? :Shockked:

Just for the sake of it, I am going to suggest few add on maintenance items if you feel they are needed, don't mind:

1) The AC compressor with Skoda will cost you upwards of 50K, it will be cheaper to get it fixed from an independent AC specialist. Its a very common issue and can be sorted for around 10K independently.

2) You must change the alternator belt, it costs around 1500 bucks only. How is the suspension on the car? Was it replaced during the 100000 kms stint? if not, get all the bushes replaced along with the main engine sub frame mounts and suspension and gearbox mounts. You will notice a vast improvement in the ride and smoothness post this. This will set you back around 15K.

3) Spark plugs also require replacement at 90000 kms. Hence I suggest you do the same or else get new ignition coils itself. Should cost you under 15K to replace all four coils.

4) Next is disc brakes, pads need replacement at 40K (both, front and rear) hence check with the seller or the service history and I suggest to get new rotors and pads that will cost you around 25K to replace all four rotors and pad sets.

5) Brake fluid needs replacement every 60K kms, there after every 30K kms. Hence you will need that to be replaced too. It will cost you under 1500 bucks.

Yeah. Just needed the upgrade from a 160 bhp Vento TDI. The price was just too good to let go. Single owners and good condition. VCDS scan was clean.

This car is getting done up completely. OEM sports Suspension upgrade, same with mounts. Of course, coils too. It's running a 200 BHP tune currently.

Already in place. Just got the car a couple of days back but, all these things are in place. Slotted brembos with performance pads. Anti-roll bar and a whole list of mods.

Next change at 110000 KMs. Will be doing a detailed review once the goals are met.

Get the Ac compressor changed from outside with a Sanden unit. It costs around 25k (at least here in Delhi), including drier bottle and gas fillup and labor.
The timing chain should have been replaced at the 80k service. If not done, get it done asap. In my Diesel Yeti it cost around 16k for the Timing chain and pulley kit replacement last year.

Hello. I recently purchased a used Laura TSi too and looking at suspension upgrade and the anti roll bar. Do you mind sharing which suspension you used, where you got it done and how much it cost you? Thanks.

There is no scheduled replacement interval for the timing chain. 2.0TDI in the Yeti has a timing belt setup.

However since timing chain tensioner failures are a known problem with the 1.8TSI engines, and at this high mileage, better to get it replaced with the revised parts. Details of all the relevant part numbers and associated costs here

Can anyone please point me to maintenance schedule for a 2011 Laura. The service cost calculator in the Skoda website has just filters, oil and spark plugs.

At times, the system produces a loud beep with the parking switch blinking. The system just stops functioning and displays the message "OPS is currently unavailable".



Sometimes, the system works with limited functionality. In this case, the front parking sensors give visual feedback but not acoustic feedback.



From all this, I suspect the front parking aid speaker. How do I access the speaker and where is it located? Is there anything else that needs to be looked into? Any inputs would be of great help.

Hi csr9,

This error will come when any component of the OPS system is removed. This error comes only once after disconnection of any component such as sensor/buzzer. Since your system is working partially it most likely is loose connection.

Could you please check if you are able to find this buzzer behind instrument cluster.

I've ordered the tensioner only. The chain is not the issue. Will be getting this changed. It requires an OEM tool.

My SKODA laura 2.0 MT(2010) has done a shade less than 100k kms. i just realised that the
last 6 months/5000kms cost me more on maintenance than i have spent in the 6 years prior.
I spent 65k on my clutch about 4 months ago, then got all my ABS sensors replaced(4.5k) 2 months ago and 2 weeks ago got my timing belt set fully replaced(30k). Except for the sensors, the rest of the repairs were done at a Bosch garage.

I sincerely hope that this is it in terms of maintenance expenses and that my car should be good for the next couple of years atleast...Would be interested in hearing your views on the same especially those that have higher mileage on their Lauras than me....

Honestly your car has done quite well and the costs don't seem that high. My etios's clutch replacement cost us 45K in comparison and it hasn't lasted half as long as yours!

A lot of the work is routine maintenance due to wear and tear, so check the owners manual and see if any other work has to be done in the next two years.

You may have to spend on suspension & steering rack work, and save a little for any engine trouble that may crop up (esp with the dieselgate remap) - but if the car is working reliably would still suggest keeping it and fixing it as opposed to shelling out 20 big ones on a similar sized replacement. Look at Adi's post above for some stuff to watch out for.

Could also help to find a good independent garage who can reliably fix small niggles as they come up (bearings, etc.)

Hi amidoc. I'm facing the same problem with my Superb. ESC, ABS, Yellow Steering Wheel, TPMS lights show up on the MID. There is no change in car's drivability. The lights sometimes go off by themselves too. I suspect this might be caused by heavy rains in Bombay recently. I tried exercising both ABS and ESC and they kicked in.

Before taking my car to dealership I wanted to see how you fixed it. My car is still under extended warranty so I hope this gets covered.
