Change the timing belt and water pump ASAP

Flywheel and clutch might need attention soon

I messed up my alignment too! We should have used a suction cup to hold the mirror & align it rather than using fingers to squeeze it in. I used liberal strips of 3M double sided tape.

The current batch of Ambientes including mine (April '11) have heated mirrors. It just needs to be enabled on vag-com. Good luck on replacing your current one with another aspheric heated set. You will in all likelihood have to break off the existing mirror (since not attached with any fastener but rather with adhesive) and only then fit your replacement. Do post up on how it went including getting the heating element connectors mated.

Hi Jatin,

I just got myself a Laura TSI ( Black) and I must confess your posts were a big inspiration in helping me make my decision. I've put michelin PLCs along with leather seats and wooden trims, but its a stock car otherwise.

Unfortunately, both my ORVM glasses were stolen tonight when I had parked the car in a side-street. It seems to have been cleanly removed and I can see the bare wiring inside the mirror casing, which seems to be intact. My initial searches seem to suggest that I'll have to pay an obscene price for a new OEM assembly. I do remember reading that you had ordered a convex pair from U.K. I have the link too from that post. Can you/ someone here please tell me if

A) What the cost of both mirrors ( just the glass would be?) i i buy on the UK link?
B) Whether i can get just the glass, how much it would cost in India?
C) Is it just the mirror, or is there some back-plate which you need to stick the mirror on? Does this come with the mirrors in the UK link?
D) Will the electronic adjustment feature work if i use the UK piece?
E) Can I do this myself or do i need to take this to a workshop? My dealer is JMD, Andheri.
F) And if none of the above works, should i get a OEM set for both sides? how much will it cost?

Desperately looking for responses as it's almost impossible to drive even for a few days without mirrors in this traffic!!

My post in bold below

IIRC about 1500 bucks (each)

The price is just for the glass. Don't know if it is available in India.

It is just mirror glass. It comes with double sided tape strips which have to be stuck on to the mirror housing assembly.

D) Will the electronic adjustment feature work if i use the UK piece?
Yes

You can do it yourself.

Sorry no idea on this one

Do note that this mirror glass is not OE Skoda equipment. It is sold by a vendor who makes mirror glasses to exact shapes of different makes of cars. I have got a convex mirror installed on my Laura for the driver side. While the quality of the mirror glass is no where as good as the original, it serves its purpose of increasing the field of vision, which was very limited with the flat original ones.

Thanks a lot, Santosh. Very nice of you to reply early. Am a little concerned about the mirror quality bit, plus my driver had an accident ( my first:( ) today which was partly due to the lack of the mirror. So nowI have a front bumper which was come off and 2 missing mirrors...Spoke to the skoda dealer and he asked me for the chassis number ( apparently each chassis type has different spares!!) he is now quoting 6 k incl labour for the 2 mirrors.

He would have asked for the chassis no. to identify the body type and version of your car since the face lifted Laura's spares (viz. mirrors and bumpers) will be different from the old version.

The price seems fair enough. If you are particular about getting convex mirror for the right side mirror then you could consider ordering it from the UK link. The quality is not bad at all. Its just that it does not have the finesse of the original. I am very happy with the results since I am used to convex mirrors on both sides and was very unhappy with the flat original ones.

both the mirrors are not flat, only the right one..

This is not really a technical question.. but had to ask on this thread, since we are discussing Laura's.

Is it advisable to wash the engine bay? I mean jet wash.
A lot of people have been asked and a lot of them have different answers to that.

Jet wash is avoidable on most modern cars. Too many electronics present and even though they may be water resistant you never know. Its better to not take that chance.

should be ok as long as the pressure isn't very high & you got to be careful of the air intake..

Yes, if done gently.

I agree.

BTW, the idiots at Europa Auto topped my coolant tank with regular water (when I was getting my wipers changed - they had no business whatsoever to even think about the coolant (they did it as a value-add to please me I think!) and when I shouted loud, they said, "Don't worry sir, we added only a few drops so that much borewell water won't harm...":Frustrati).

So God knows what they will do if you ask them to wash the engine bay!!!

So, basically, if the jet wash is done in the correct manner, then its of no harm?

I anyways avoid jet washing the engine bay. Washcloth and a bucket of water- thats all I use.

Are you serious :Shockked:? Europa? Here I was thinking that they are the better lot as compared to Asset. This is absolutely not accepted.

Could you PM me the name of the SA and the person who worked on your car. I know someone pretty high up in Europa. I can take this up with them.

There is no correct way, per se, to jet wash an engine. lol

But coolant isn't used alone. There is a mix of coolant and water. I'm sure there is no harm in topping up with water once in a while. Infact there was a thread that listed out some issues if only coolant and no water is used.

If you know someone in Europa, that would be great - please do use your weight to stop such nonsense. I will PM you.

Akshay, yes, coolant alone is not used. But that's not the point here - the point is "borewell" water. They MUST use filtered (softened by R.O.) water if not distilled. I can show you the amount of skaling the borewell water causes to the household taps, plumbing and appliances in Pune.

Yeah, thats exactly what I meant. A little water is added alongwith the coolant. But "borewell" water? They got to be kidding me! Softened water can surely be used.

DSG issue with my 3 month old Laura.
It is working fine in D & S mode. Problem is when i drive in Manual mode, the gear gets disengaged when it shifts down automatically.
I have explained the issue in detail in this thread(http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-d...ml#post2593888)
