Iridium Spark Plugs-are they worth it?

Old thread, thought I'd ask the question again: Are they worth it in 2022?

I find them to be worth it. The spark for combustion is more consistent, more powerful and the spark plugs are longer lasting overall.

I use NGK Iridium Spark Plugs along with SGP original ignition coils in my Gypsy. (NGK is easily available in India and of course SGP coils have to be sourced from Maruti Genuine Spares.)

And Brisk Iridium high performance Spark Plugs along with Bosch High Performance Ignition coils in my Mini Cooper S. (These are after market parts, imported from the US.)

If you are looking at increases in performance or mileage the No. At most you will get the same mileage over a longer period of time vs the small drop as conventional plugs age. So guess over a longer period period you will save a tiny bit of fuel.

For performance you will only feel a difference if you change to a cooler or hotter spark plug with associated add on mods only.

I was wondering if upgrading my spark plugs would help me. I have a CNG Tigor AMT, Retro fitted.
There's a significant roughness in low RPMs in CNG. In Petrol, it is minimum but present there.
Any idea if I can upgrade spark plug/ignition coil/ air filter to resolve it?
P.S. I have got CNG tuned several times and got a dynamic advancer too. But the issue isn't resolved.

How often do you change the spark plugs during service? Recommended would be changing every year/10k kms however it can easily last for 2 years. I encountered similar performance drop in my Hyundai Aura company fitted CNG which caused the ignition coils to go away as per service center. I changed the spark plugs and ignition coils were replaced under warranty. No issues after that. You can try doing the same.

Just changing to Iradium plugs will give you a marginal change which will seem like it’s not worth it in the long run. However, when these plugs are used as part of overall ignition system upgrade then there can be significant gain.

Such change would require replacing the OEM ignition coils with high performance after market coils such as WeaponX or MSD, an ignition amplifier and high quality spark plug wires (if any required).

In short, it has to a complete upgrade of the pipeline, else the gains will be marginal to negligible.
