1. Quite normal for indian road conditions

2. Your car should be put up on a lift or jack, wheels taken out and suspension components inspected individually. Look for oil leakages from shocks and rubber bushes worn out. Replace accordingly. If certain parts are moving around freely, better to replace. if shocks are gone, its better to replace as strut assembly considering age of your car.

3.Whether you get it done at FNG or MASS ensure its checked thoroughly in your presence. MGP parts are easily available along with after market replacements.

Service center has quoted 22000 including labor. Now my questions are :

You are exposing yourself and writing a blank cheque to service center if you ask them just to fix the suspension issues whatever it costs. Try asking question, what exactly has gone, Can it be repaired (MASS will not budge to repair though).. etc. Fixing a simple "thud" doesn't mean you have to change all parts around there. It could be as simple as a replacing a bush or various other components. And if you believe the car was never abused, then very unlikely a major issue.
BHPian Balenoed has summed it up beautifully. Get parts from MGP store and fix it at any reputed FNG who have a 2 post lift(will be easier with it).

-Inspect everything first. If any component is damaged, replace them in pairs if they come in pairs. For example if one strut is damaged, then replace both as the other "fine" strut won't be as good as new one which you are putting.

-Do realise that there are different struts for Diesel and Petrol Swift. Make sure you get Diesel's else your ride will be severely hampered. I know a friend who installed Swift Diesel's strut in his Swift petrol. The already stiff ride became unbearable.

-Do get stabiliser bar bushes replaced too.

-3 things go bad in lower arms: If only bush is bad, bushes are available separately and replace only that. If its the lower arm which is bent or ball joints which has gone bad, replace the entire lower arm. Do inspect first and then take a call.

-Replace complete front strut assemblies if available and avoid replacing only elements. Basically: Element + bushes + spring + misc= Assembly.

This is element:

This is assembly:

Always replace entire assembly. It will be quicker, better job quality and cost lesser labour wise too.

I'm posting prices of all items of suspension which your Swift ZDi may need replacement:

1. Front Strut Assembly Swift Diesel per side: Rs. 4350
2. Lower Arm Swift per side: Rs. 2290
3. Front stabilizer bar link joints(per side): Rs. 485
4. Rear Shock absorber(per side): Rs. 1760

Rear coils don't go bad that quickly, so it can be reused in most cases. Labour for all above jobs at FNG will be around Rs. 1000-1500.

Do the maths. I'm sure they won't do such a comprehensive job at MASS.

Regards,
Shashi

Re: Are my swift's Shock absorbers dead!!???

Hi all,

Reviving this thread for some suggestions on improving the ride quality of my 2014 Swift VXI done 44k kms.

Off late, I have found the car to be crashing at every undulation I can find on Mumbai roads, mostly the flyover joints and uneven patch work done. The front always seems like it’s jumping up and down on every bump.

I recently had it checked at an FNG and the car was raised on a lift and the front and rear checked. The rear shock absorber was leaking oil and we decided to change both the rear shocks along with the front link rods as there was also a constant droning noise coming on rough roads. We checked the front lower arms and struts and did not see any issues and the same was also confirmed by the mechanic as well and we kept them as is.

Post work, the ride has definitely improved and there is no constant noise and jumping from the back end over rumblers that I was experiencing before but the front still feels like it crashes on every bump.

Any suggestions of what I need to check or replace to improve this? I have been driven around in Dzires and Ertigas and none of them seem to have the same bumpy ride and are quite comfortable even over bad roads.

Cheers.

I have Swift Diesel Vdi 2013, 1,06,000 kms on the odo, the ride has become hell like hard, it feels like I am driving without tyres, because of the gone suspensions, some wire near the battery moves and the car gets stalled on the road, then I have to shake the wire ( the wire attached to positive battery terminal ) and the car becomes normal, again if I drive it through bad road, the wire again moves and same thing happens.

I went to a local machenic, he tightened the wire, and told that suspension have gone ( just after taking a test drive ), he is saying that he has spare suspensions of an another Swift, if I say him yes, he can install it in just labour cost which is 800 rs.

We bought this car in 2023 as used, and I don't want to spend anymore on this, I want to sell it as soon as possible, what did you change in your Swift Sir, ? And should I spend on whole suspension system ?
