Hi Bhpians,

Off late I have noticed that the truck has lost the power it had, recently did pune-hyd-pune in 4days frame.
I did notice that 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears have low power and I could feel the pull or drag,
4th and 5th is super smooth.

Also when ever I try to throttle the accelerator and release, to shift the gear it gives a feeling or rather sounds as if the accelerator is on raise when. It gives the sound as if someone hits the clutch and at same time throttling the accelerator..

What could be the issue.

Cheers
Josh

You have correctly described the symptoms of a clutch wornout. Clutch needs refurbishing. Outside TASS it can be done for 8.5 which includes, labour, clutch plate, pressure plate and clutch bearing etc. TASS cost would be around 15k.

When was the last time you changed the clutch plates? I suspect they are the reason for this behaviour. Please get them checked and changed if need be.

Thanks Ankur and Jose for the prompt response.

Wanted to ask if its the clutch that's pulling down the power of the truck in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears? Also how long does the clutch plates last once changed?

Taking the truck for servicing this weekend.

Cheers
Josh

It all depends on how the car is driven? If the car is abused more, life of clutch plates will go down.

Re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

Hi Guys,

I have sent the beast to Service center, I am being told that it would cost 11k for clutch work in Pune, its not TASS, wanted help/Information if this is the reasonable price to pay. As per the service center guy, the labor charges are completely waved off.

Also i wanted to know how much would it cost for the Suspension work to be done? Shock absorbers are in good condition, Bushes ,Tie rods, Upper, lower & middle Tie rods have to be replaced, I have been quoted between 15 to 17k? Is this price reasonable?

Thanks for the help/Information in advance.

Cheers
Josh.

Why would anyone waive off labour charges?

Anyway, you can check the prices of Tata genuine parts on 99rpm.
For example, here's the price of the Clutch kit-

.
Just got my Black Beauty back from Pandit Auto with Same set of issues fixed.

Entire Clutch overhaul : cost 15K with Labour:
Parts replaced : CLutch plate, pressure plate & release bearing. + 3500 was labour followed by Monsoon camp discount.

Rear suspension Bush set : 4500 for parts + 1200 as labour for this.
Front right Suspension bush set : 800+ labour.

Will be posting entire details of work done shortly on same thread. Entire bill was 38750/- . Lot of work done on the poor soul.

Agree with all the comments above. Check the prices at 99rpm for parts to be placed outside TASS.

My 2 cents: anything that relates to engine/transmission, please get it done at TASS only. You wont regret the cost incured.
If yours is a BS4: Get your ECU refreshed & feel the beast in all new way.

Regards,
Saurabh

This morning I have gone to check on the things that are being done on my beast.

Seems to be a major servicing, all the suspension work and the clutch job and general servicing is costing up to 40k approximately including the labor, which is similar to TASS, will try to attach the job card also.

Inputs/revisions or suggestions are appreciated

Cheers
Josh

Hi Josh
What job is mentioned at #2, #5 & #7?

Looks as if your vehicle as clocked 98099 KMs.
I suggest to get the Timimg kit replaced as well in same service, rather than coming again later. Timimg Kit replacement Will be due at 100000 KMs. refer to the service manual, it is suggested at this time. Add another 12-15K to your bill.
PLease do refer to my earlier response as well for the similar jobs done to my safari as well.

Regards,
Saurabh.

Hi Saurabh,

will include Timing kit replacement with this service only.

How to get the ECU refreshed?? Though mine is not BS4, I do have one in Hyderabad 2012 BS4, will have done on that.

In 2013 TATA has released new/Update firmware for safari, I have got that done then. Is this what you meant?

Thanks
Josh

Hi Josh,

The SA at Pandit auto told me that the version I have NOW on my ECU is the version that was launched with last Assembly line of Tata Aria 2.2 DICOR. They then moved Aria to Varicor. I guess this is around March 2014. "I may be wrong on this & still sceptic of it, but had to accept it", cause SA did claimed it is another upgrade post 2013. Mine is 2010 BS4. So went ahead with it.
I am very much happy from the performance i am getting now, whichever version it is.

But yes there was at least one upgrade on offer in 2013. So by your comments you have at least on upgrade on ECU ie from 2013.

Anyways, if ever you visit to Pandit Auto's Workshop, check & get it done. Worth a try though.

Concorde at Baner had no clue of it till October last year. Never asked them again for it.

Regards,
Saurabh.

How ever let me check if there is any upgrade for mine(2009) .

Will keep you all updated if there is any.

Cheers
Josh
