Few days back radiator fan assembly of my Safari came out itself, courtesy two lost bolts. I opened bonnet after long time and found that fan assembly is hanging just with support of two loose bolts at bottom.
I went to KHT and they replaced the bolts. But this could be serious problem when in long drive. I did not hear any weird noise from engine compartment.
Guys,
Pls see the attached pic.
I was painstakingly preserving these little plastic things for over 3 years. But a careless washing/cleaning at my last TASC visit did this. Though, they have promised to replace it, but, they are too far and I am unable to maintain constant follow-up on phone. Can I source these screw caps readily? If yes, from where in Pune?
Thanks in advance for helping.

I see 2 fans under the bonnet in my 2.2.
Is it (3.5k) cost of both or one?

 Isn't the AC supposed to stop working when the CF conks off? That's what happens when it's fuse blows (used to, quite often, till I replaced the usual 10A fuse with a 15A one). |
Same thought here too. But as the Condenser fan only takes the air from outside and pushes it forcefully back at the Condenser thus increasing the cooling effect even when the car is stationary. But when the car is moving the air automatically hits the condenser with force hence even when the fan is not working the AC cools but not so efficiently. This was my local gyaan from little experience, no science in it. Please correct anybody if I am wrong here.

AFAIK, if the CF fuse blows, or the CF is electrically kaput, the compressor cuts out, i.e. the AC system does not function at all - there is no refrigerant ('AC gas') flow. Only the cabin fan functions, just throwing warm air. Or maybe I am missing something.

:Shockked: Beats me how come you did not hear any sounds indicating that something is amiss on this front!!

Same happened to me last year but thankfully I noticed it before taking delivery after the service and got it replaced. I doubt it if you'd get these anywhere other than the A.S.S.

That's what I am trying to say, the fuse is okay it is either the Condenser fan jammed or CF motor is not working due to which the fan is not spinning at all.
Went to TASS and as usual they only ask for replacement, went to my local mechanic and he asked some 800-1000 Rs for repair, will get it done tomorrow.

Generally metal loose parts make audible noise. Since, this is plastic part and that too in engine compartment with full of noise. Also, I always drive all windows roll up with AC-on. These may be the reasons.
The connector of Condenser fan was loose, thus it stopped working said the SA at TASC, now back to normal. Cooling is better now.
The left pulling problem is still there, the TASC says that suspension needs overhaul although there are no abnormal noises\behavior from suspension which could signify any fault in suspension.
Got the front left wheel cap changed for 350 Rs. Wiper blades for 140 & 117 INR.

I just need advice from experienced safari owners on deciding a purchase decision. I am already owning a diesel hatch, but need a larger car to pull together my big family for occasional very long trips (ie. +1000 Kms). It often requires to go though bad stretches (ie. mud, slush, steep inclines) where a 4wd will be of great assistance. My budget is around 10L.
After reading on many places of niggling issues in Safari and its reliability in question (when infact needed) I am edging more towards Scorpio.
I know some of you guys have traveled length and breadth and have been in odd situations. I just want to learn from your experience and take a good decision. |
Hello "
droolingvoyager",
I don't thik that Current genertion of Safari has any reliability issues.
You mentioned that you have a budget of 10L, try stretching a bit & look for EX4x4 if still available. Comfort, looks & performance are worth it. I did that, from the suggestions of T-BHP members. Bought Ex instead of Lx. (Thanks to all again & again)
I have been doing the same, whatever your requirements are (Long distance travel with big family on "bad stretches (ie. mud, slush, steep inclines)" ; whatever.. Finger crossed, only one puncture in 21 months. & mine is NOT a 4x4.
AS Mods have already mentioned that price you are being offered is good, either go for it or buy a new one. You won't regret it.
Happy Driving..
Saurabh T.
As you know, I recently got major clutch, gearbox and transfer case job done.
However, the new clutch is not really very nice.
It has the following problems
1. Judder, esp when crawling. In traffic jams and on 4L, its a real pain
2. Clutch is hard. I remember, new clutches in safaris are very soft
3. the clutch fluid goes to min level within days of use. I have topped it up twice, and it goes to min. Is it normal?
Extended warranty expires around 20th July. Intend to give the vehicle to Autolinks by this weekend.
Lets see how it goes.
Any particular parts I should ask them to check?
Clutch plate and pressure plate are brand new, ditto for slave cylinder, but the clutch is hard, and has judder.
What gives?

The fluid is leaking somewhere/ its sucking air and thats why its hard.
There is a double lip seal which is also required to be changed along with the clutch job.
OT: Why did TML stop the deep dark blue color? I have spotted only 2 safari's in 1 year and boy they look awesome. The color is like converting to black, but its dark blue.

What could be the cause of the judder? Same thing?

Yes, its all hydraulics at work.
Post three years of ownership List of issues faced till now
Kilometers run: 45000
Vehicle age :3 years
1)Gearbox synchronizer damage resulting in poor gear shift.Fixed under extended warranty in 45K service. They do not cost much anyways. Just 500 bucks per synchro ring.
2)Fuel lid electronic release issue.Had to fix this 2 or 3 times. Now it is resolved.
3)Turbo charger mount was loose. This was fixed in first 5K kms
4)One of the headlamp bulbs fused out.Replaced a bulb.
5)Suspension bushes worn out.Not sure if this needed replacement but the service advisor told me and i replaced in 45K kms service.
6)Wind shield washer not working.Resolved.
7)Car battery was replaced.
7)Clutch disk replaced (This was not necessary ) but did it as service advisor instructed.
8)Brake pads replaced once.
9)Propeller shaft noise and steering idler arm noise. They used to appear initially but have disappeared mysteriously, though every service i used to make sure that it is greased properly.
This is pretty much the issues and total maintainance. But overall it has been a peaceful Ownership experience.Am i happy with the vehicle?Hell yes! But i may have to sell the vehicle or hand it over to some relative who can use it regularly as i am planning to move abroad.
