re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

hi friends

all good luck came to a halt
while going to hd kodde a local guy driving his bike from wrong side looking backwards hit my car
i was spontaneous to brake and take car to left
however he hit my orvm bust my left tyre guard wheel cap scratched my front door

not knowing kannada became my disadvantage as this happened when no one was on road
as humanitarian i helped the guy washed his wounds gave him meds and asked someone to send him to hospital

however things turned ugly afterwards and i had to go to policestation
i had to pay settlement of 22k so that i can move ahead with no case to register
the police were very helpful more so because i had my wife with me

my question

no damage to car only cosmetic
the main concern is the mirror falling of from orvm
will i have to buy entire unit or only the mirror

the dent is deep with little paint gone
what can be done gor it

i would leave for mumbai on 18
can the mirtor be fixed at mysore or somewhere

regards

OMG. Sorry to hear about this Lodhra. You have been a good Samaritan instead of leaving the motorcyclist behind as most would have done. In an unknown territory it is always safer to scoot if it is possible.

You can get the mirror inset and fix that in ORVM - if the motor ***'ly is not damaged.

Glad to know that all is ok. Hope you have papers to prove that no case would be registered in future by the biker.

You can get the whole OVRM kit for around 3500Rs. These will have to be painted to boy color though.

re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

Very very sorry to hear that Lodhra.. Very unfortunate..
Looks like a very minor incident, but 22K sounds exorbitant and I think the local goons have taken advantage of the situation to extract the money..

Dont worry abou the mirror, you dont have to buy full kit, can get just the glass part but need to scout around in places like JC Road in Bangalore. I recently got my left side mirror changed for Rs.250. But since yours is the right side mirror, could be tough to drive all the way back to Mumbai. Is Bangalore on your way back? If so I can try to get the mirror and keep it ready for you...

Hi Lodhra,

you can get only the glass if you have the old version of OVRM, but if its new version then i doubt, since lately my OVRM got damaged when my driver was parking it(i had old one) went to the service station to replace the full set, the service adviser told me not to change the full set and told me to just change the mirror(he told me that for new models the glass is not available),
but DO check with the service station.

Verditer also has new version of Tata Safari and he has yet to complete one year. He already sourced his left side mirror so right side can also be sourced.

@lodhra sad to know this incident. 22K what you paid is quite steep. But anyway let consider it a bad bygone and better forget.

re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

@anujmishra

yes I know I was being ripped but language problem plus wife in an unknown place was quite stressful
Apart from that the guy had banged his forehead on his bike so an head injury
My prime concern was that he must be safe cause if anything had happened to him in terms of coma or elsewise it would have been a grave problem considering I did not have alibi's
The goons were asking for 1 lac rupees finally settled to 22k
I could have got it more less but since police were negotiating with them and just asking me intermediately I was all at sea
Prime aim was to get out as soon as possible
Yes trying to put it behind me as bad dream
Worst thing was to be almost manhandled for no fault of mine
A biker dashes a stationary car parked on extreme left hits himself I being a doctor help him wash his blood wounds give him first aid send him to hospital since no one is around and I get all this in return

Hope my return journey is incident free and I get the mirror so it would be easier to drive
Thank you for your concern and help

Regards

re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

Unfortunately couldn't get the right mirror for Lodhra; the old model ones were in stock but not the current model; though shop guy said can source it in a week's time will not help since Lodhra is travelling today.
He said he'll make do with the broken glass with him by duct taping till Mumbai.
Lets wait to hear from him.

Hello Lodhra,

Good to know that you have reached Bombay safely after your long journey. We hear about local thugs fleecing unwary motorists during the daytime even in Bangalore. Anyway - that unsavory incident is behind you now.

Do tell us about your trips in a travelogue.

re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

Hello All,

Mine is Sep2010 EX.
Problems i am facing/Noticing are as follows:

1: Hissing of Stearing at full Turns.
2: These is a dead Zone or Choking zone at 1500 RPM. The engine behaves such that it has no fuel supply between 1500-1600 RPM. Accelerator has to be pressed deaper if i am required to drive at this revolution, to get adequate power out of.
3: 14 months of purchase & I have already replaced Right front fog lamp 4 times & left twice
4: There is almost no power from engine upto 1500 RPM. It virtually begs itself to generate power & deliver it to wheels. Does not allows a sudden acceleration, if required. As soon as it crosses 1600 mark, it geneates power significantly. Above 1600 RPM it is almost a monster. Great response.

Remaining performane is awwsome. The biggest drawback of the vehicle is th GRUDGE that some people hold against this Beast just because of its looks & its exclusivity. Someone already has made deep scratchs with key or some pointed object on left door. Will get that repaired soon.

Apologies, I was out of India for a almost 5 months now. Want to thank everybody who provided their feedbacks when i was selecting the variant.
Will update the photographs soon on the "SAFARI PICS" thread.

Thanks,
Saurabh.
