Verditer:

Go to TASS. Most probably a loose contact.

I just hope it is not at the panel level.

Ok, then you can try those, TVS is a reputed company, but take note of the mileage just as a reference point, they shouldnt wear off faster than OEM.

The OEM spares at dealerships generally have a huge margin for the manufacturer. However, please ensure that the shop you are getting TVS pads from is a trusted shop since spurious spares a big problem.

@4x4addict, yes I am getting those from a trusted shop and thank you for the concern .

Please find the pics below, kindly let me know if you find any difference from the OEM.

If this is true, SAFARI is no more heavy on maintenance.

re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

@ Lionx, did you procure the pads in Bangalore? Is TASS willing to replace the pads which you supply?
If TASS refuse to replace parts supplied by customer citing warranty, how feasible is it to get it done outside of TASS in terms of warranty claims if any in the future?

My Safari brake pads also need to be changed soon I guess (36k on the odo as of now), the price difference from Tata and outside is too tempting.

@LSW, why are you scrimping on the brake pads ? Are the other set of pads that good ?

Check with the shop referred by Benny. Should not be a problem - it's brake pads, after all

@Luke: Changing pads is no big deal. Any mechanic who has experience with front disk pads can do it. In fact, with the right tools it is a fairly simple DIY job. Regarding Warranty, Tata may deny warranty on an component of the front brake like warped rotors etc..

If you take the bill and the box to TASS, based on your relation with the SA, he will change it for you. The people at TASS will be easily able to identify if it is authentic part or not.

Key words here - your terms with the SA. This was, will just get charged for the labor and warranty still in tact.

re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

@LSW, Yes i got it from Bangalore and I am not bothering to take the car to TASS for a simple brake pad change. Am planning to get it done from the BOSCH service center at the Total mall, sarjapur road.

I don't think there would be any issue regarding the warrenty as both pads are same make.

@condor, not the pads its the 3K price difference which made Luke scrimp.

re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

Whilst we are discussing brakes, I have started hearing squeak sound when braking from my safari. (I have done only 2900 kms so far).

What should I check? Should I apply oil/ grease or take it to TASS?

Just take it to TASS and ask them to clean, it should be the brake dust causing the sound.

Please share the shop details. These look better than the OEM, the packaging is also better with shrink wrapped pads.

I was aware of Castrol pitstop in Total sarjapur, didn't notice Bosch there.

Parwath, it is not about scrimping, if Tata is using TVS too, why pay them double the cost.

It is not the ease of changing brake pads that I'm worried about, (I too have dismantled and put back brake pads on my previous cars), but the issues of warranty claims arising out of changing the same outside the TASS.

@ Happywheels, will check with my SA about getting the brake pads and if TVS is also what they fit. If the product is genuine, I see no reason why we must pay almost twice the cost in terms of taxes.

LionX, can you share details of where you purchased the TVS brake pads?

Where do you want to apply oil / grease ?

It's brake dust. Get it cleaned at the A/S/S

re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

I got these from Real Automobiles, JC road and they are the authorized parts dealer.
I usually get engine oil from them (Petronas Urania CI4) and this time just checked the price of brake pads too. I feel we can get most of the safari parts from them for much lower price.

@dadu, my bad; it must be Castrol pitstop.
