Engine Graveyard - Where old engines go to die..

I went to a friends factory today and he was showing me around.

In the distance, I saw a huge pile of what looked like .. engines!

On closer inspection I saw this...

All starter motors.

Imported old engines. Ford, Honda, Daihatsu all brands. Engines and engines. Some with gearboxes and even transmissions...

Most of these engine appearing clean and in relatively good condition. I tried turning a gearbox by hand and it turned like new. I even saw a 8 cylinder engine which came out of an SUV of some sort...

The fate of all this .... SCRAP METAL!! All this will be broken with hammers and sold for metal value!

So, anybody fancy an engine for tinkering... real cheap ?

Ouch, that looks like the equivalent of mass slaughter! I am sure some of those engines would work, but were discarded for diesels. Terrible sight

Were all of these engines sourced from cars running in India? I doubt it.

All are imported engines... not a single indian.

Directly from the USA

must be from the written off cars. most of them have their engines intact (and most of the body). indian dealers would just repaint and sell.

many people here shop for engines in such graveyards when they get an engine trouble, and get them very very cheap. Now that you know they are shipped to india...i guess building your own V8 cruiser can be a dream come true for many.

the AC units and alternators would be in working condition, i suppose. even few engines would be working with slight repair..

I won't call this an engine graveyard....I'd rather call it a Mecca for engine modifiers!

who knows - one may be lucky to get a real muscle car engine. these are definetly from foreign market those who sell metal for scrap. Pity to see such repairable ones in junk..

Nice picturesof the Engine graveyard. I am sure that these are imported engines from SE Asian countries. As of now, we do not have so many Japanese engines to scrap.
In the early 1990's the Mumbai taxis (Premiers) were fitted with shoddy, reconditioned, second hand,3 or rarely 4 cylinder Japanese diesel engines imported from SE Asia and also the Far East. Many were hitherto fitted to outboard motors and speedboats. These emitted malodorous exhaust fumes.Thats when the PIL at the Hon'ble Mumbai HC came and it was compulsory to install CNG kits. For CNG one requires a petrol engine. So the same Premier taxis are now fitted with CNG kits and petrol engines. Now they are talking about phasing out 15 + year old taxis, infact all old commercial vehicles.
I remember a R.K. Laxman cartoon. It showed black clouds during monsoon and a housewife telling her husband that its not the clouds, but emission from a taxi that is in our vicinity.

W H A T A F I N D !!!!!!!!!!!! And you did not know that your friend had this ???

Thundering typhoons & Blistering Barnacles !!!!

Tell him to document this as in tabulate
Engine Type
Petrol / Diesel
Engine cc
and post it here...

I'll buy shares in his company straight away !!!!!

I am sure your freind cannot be unaware of this potential customer base, maybe he has better use for the liquified V-8's than sell them & take on the headache of "yeh toh theek nahin hai"

Great find none the less. Details would be appreciated

Cheers
