After doing more research and comparing the engine smoothness post oil-change, I feel that 18 months/10K kms is a decent time frame for fully synthetic oil change in older cars. The engine wasn't very smooth after ~21 months as I can recall and I had mistaken that for throttle body being dirty. Hence, I wanted to correct my post!

Re: Synthetic Gear Oil

I need a 80W90 GL-4 spec oil for my Gurkha's GB and transfer case. Confused between:
Shell Spirax 80W90
https://www.amazon.in/Shell-Spirax-S...16&sr=8-6&th=1
Mannol 8107
https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B00...KT019HOE&psc=1
Also planning to go for Aditive:
https://www.amazon.in/MANNOL-9903-Ge...omotive&sr=1-6

Super confused as to which one to go for.

Spirax is just fine. Don’t use additives for a gearbox

Probably the only thing that works for hyundai and honda MT which need this and not a w90 oil. Excellent oil.

Petronas tutela 75w85 fully synth used in all Punto/Linea gearbox. I am using the same for more than a lakh kms on my i20. You need 2 litres for almost all Hyundai gearboxes.

So for a Marathi speaker it is a "toote la" gearbox oil?

There's a 75w80 I can find on Amazon and that should mostly be fine.

https://www.amazon.in/Motul-Motylgea...dp/B0010548U2/

I remember getting 75w85 from a Motul distributor. Anyway there are other 75w85 brands available on Amazon such as Mannol and Zic. https://www.amazon.in/s?k=75w85&crid=1I7TZR6ZEB5GU

Any idea as to whether I can use 75w90 (Chemoleum brand) gear oil for Hyundai Eon? 75w85 seems to be unavailable locally (even online, there are only a few unheard of brands) & most of the oil dealers are suggesting 80w90....

I have not owned a Hyundai MT but for a Honda MY if you use 90 weight oil the gear shifting becomes notchy and rough. Use 75w80 if 75w85 isn’t available though as I said you can get it on Amazon.

Yes, you can use 75W90 instead of 75W85. The gearshifts may not be as smooth as before when the gearbox is warmed up because of the heavier 90 grade but cold shifts will not see any difference

Re: Synthetic Gear Oil

Can someone tell me which manual gearbox oil the Swift/Dzire petrol uses ? The manual just says 75W

Using the MS parts finder and Boodmo doesn't give me a definitive answer as both 75w80 and 75w90 are both available.

Any reason to opt for the 90 over the 80?

It is 75W90. I am attaching the screenshot of the owner's manual of my SX4.

Would this be applicable to the newer models as well ? Mine is from 2018. Im assuming it's the same old gearbox that Maruti has been using in their cars for years. Don't really see many detailed discussions on manual gearbox models.
