75w80 will be very hard to source. Check if your manual gives the option of 75w90 or 75w85.

Thank you both.

Manual was saying elf 75w80 GL4 hence the reason I was looking for it.

Did you go for this one?

Exactly as you even I'm not able to locate this product on their website but feel like buying it as this oil matches the specification mentioned in my car's user manual. Please suggest as to me 99rpm.com reviews are not very confidence inspiring.

You can go ahead and use a 75w90 gl4 oil. Try these

https://www.amazon.in/Amsoil-75W-90-...y&sr=8-1-fkmr0
https://www.amazon.in/Liqui-Moly-Ful...y&sr=8-1-fkmr1
https://www.air90.com/collections/lu...ar-oil-1-quart
(Redline is an excellent US brand and air99 is their Indian distributor)

I bought this Petronas 75W85 Gear Oil and have used it in our Elite i20 Asta Diesel which has run 175 KKms+ for last 13000+ Kms.

But I didn't find any difference (Shifting Quality) between this oil and my previous 75W90 Gear Oil.

I won't be using it (Petronas Tutela 75W85) again because 1. for the reason above (no difference in Shifting Quality) and 2. the shipping cost of 99rpm.com is too high.

Re: Synthetic Gear Oil

I need fully synthetic Gl5 gear oil for rear differential of 75w90 or 85w140 or 75w140 or 80w90 or 75w110 or straight 90. Any grade is amongst these are ok for my use. If anyone has any lead pls share.

Amazon has Amsoil 75w90 but its listed by a new seller with zero feedback and not amazon fulfilled and thats not comfortable. Greaves Cotton won't have stock till mid August.

Among the other good brands -

Liqui Moly https://www.amazon.in/Liqui-Moly-Ful.../dp/B00TQ3S392

Motul has one too.

Thank you in advance.
I would suggest you stick to Petronas if it is for your i20. That is the only fully synthetic oil in the right grade available AFAIK. i20 needs 2 litres for gear oil.

99RPM delivery would take around 7-10 days depending on from your location since large liquids cannot be shipped by air.

Motul fully synthetic gear oil is not sold here as per their India website. Motul Motylgear 75w90 which I have in the differential now is "Technosynthese" which is Motul's identity for their semisynthetic oils. It is a good oil and is GL5.

Liquimoly gear oil is not worth it at that price, especially when Amsoil synthetic is available at lower price.

Liquimoly datasheet doesn't mention GL5 (extreme pressure) explicitly which is important in rear axle differential (and bad for use in manual transmission where GL4 or GL4+ works better). So my guess is that it is more of a manual transmission oil for integrated differentials.

Both Motylgear Semisyn and Amsoil Syn is GL5 and MIL2105 certified. Motylgear is a very good oil considering its a semisynthetic. Ideally the replacement for it should be a Amsoil Sever Duty gear oil or Motul's own synthetic range which isn't available or the Mobil1 75w90 (but without LSD additive).

Re: Synthetic Gear Oil

I noticed in my owner's manual that the recommended oil spec is EP 80W LL, I'm not able to find any of it online after a quick search. Is there any alternative, or will this be stocked in the local shops?

Also the manual doesn't mention GL spec.

Thanks.

The price difference just makes me wonder if the motul we get is fake.

Motul (1 Lite) = 600 bucks
Ravenol (1 litre) = 8000 bucks (1333% higher)
Redline (3 litre) = 15000 bucks

What you’re seeing are imported stuff that includes customs duties and courier charges from abroad.

Do you recommend MOTUL MotylGear SAE 75W-90 Synthetic Blend GL4/GL5 for Swift Petrol? The recommended one is 75w90 GL4 but I am unable to find it in the market. It has already been 5.5 years and 20K kms since last change to Shell MGO 75w90 and I am going for a long drive in a couple of days. My skepticism is from the fact that it is more viscous compared to Shell and is also GL5 compliant.

As long as it provides for GL4 compliance you should be fine .. many around are GL4/GL5 dual certified. What you additionally look for in a GL5 rated gear oil is the MT-1 certification that makes it fine to use with GL4 requiring gearboxes.

What gets added is a buffering agent (deactivated or buffered sulphur phosphate) that won't react with the softer metal like bronze in gearboxes that require GL4.

The Motul website says

Quote:
Specially recommended for gearboxes hard to shift and/or noisy gearboxes.

All mechanical transmission synchronized or not synchronized gearboxes, gearbox/differential, transfer gearbox and hypoid differentials without limited slip system operating under shocks, heavy loads and low revolution speed or moderate loads and high revolution speed.
