Skoda Slavia 1.0 AT gear shifter knob selector lock switch comes off on its own

My friend owns a Slavia 1.0 AT, the gear shifter knob's selector lock switch came off on it's own. My friend keeps his car in immaculate and is very disappointed with the build quality. This happened with light use and the car was just in the parking and suddenly he observed that half of the knob had fell off.

I have suggested him to get it replaced under warranty, can other Slavia owners share if they've had similar experience with their machines?

Pictures attached for reference

Our situation was worse - the button's spring came out too. It is since then taped up.

Oh man, this is terrible! The quality of plastics in the VW-Skoda 2.0 cars was said to be bad but this is unacceptable.

Re: Skoda Slavia Review

ah.. When i recently drove my brother's Slavia i felt the gear knob button was pretty flimsy, scary to see it breaks for so many. What ASC is telling? They should get it fixed under warranty!.

Skoda refused replacement under warranty.

I just posted the issue as I thought it was only me facing it. But shocked and surprised to note so many of us facing the same issue. Compiling the same for future reference.

It clearly seems to be a case of the shift lock button being of bad quality. Also pretty frustrating to note that Škoda has rejected warranty replacement for rayjaycleoful.

I will be taking my car to the service centre and will hopefully get it replaced under warranty.

Re: Skoda Slavia 1.0 AT gear shifter knob selector lock switch comes off on its own

Seems Skoda is deviating from its DNA of build quality. Is India 2.0 strategy about compromising on Skoda DNA. I Regard Skoda and Volkswagen right at the top on Vehicle Dynamics and Build. If they are going to compromise on their core DNA then it is as good as going for Tata, Mahindra or Hyundai. Don't make the mistake that Ford made.

Perfect example of 2.0 “under engineered” cars

You spoke my mind! I agree with you. These cars with such good chassis, suspension, engine and powertrain set up are spoilt by sub par materials, fit and finish levels. The solidity (especially on the inside) of the older Vw/ Skoda cars is not found in these newer gen 'over engineered' cars which is a shame IMO.

I feel India 2.0 is

1. Check places where you can cut the cost.
2. Remove features.
3. The car to appear big (even if it looks disproportionate)
4. Reduce build quality

This makes me wonder what the upcoming ‘aptly-engineered’ SC-SUV for India will be?

Re: Skoda Slavia 1.0 AT gear shifter knob selector lock switch comes off on its own

This happened in my 2 year old Kushaq 1.5DSG as well got it replaced under warranty. They said the part number has changed now and I had to wait almost a month for parts to arrive. Now it is working fine hopefully doesn’t recur.

VAG group should understand that doing these things won't make them competitive, if the parts are going to fall off like this. They should have focused on localisation and stuck to their strengths (good build quality).
