2024 Mahindra Thar - AC Short Cycling

Hello,

Requesting your opinion, insight about the below.
Make: Mahindra
Model: Thar 4x4 Hard Top
Fuel: Diesel (BS 6.2)
Year: 2024

Issue:
AC (compressor) is cycling on/off every 10 - 15 seconds. I approached the ASC of the same dealer from whom I had bought the car, MM Motors, Chennai. They found the refrigerant level to be normal and hence not acknowledging any AC issue or even opening a Job Card to troubleshoot further. They are verbally communicating that this is normal behaviour.
However, the short cycling of more than 5 times within 1 minute is not the normal behaviour in any of my other cars.

Ultimately, I want to get this issue resolved or get a written confirmation from Mahindra that this is normal behaviour.

As per what you have you mentioned. The following could be the causes,
1.) There could be higher volume of refrigerant gas or oil. Causing buildup of high pressure in the circuit leading to either less cooling or frosting of the Low-Pressure circuit. Recovery of AC gas and oil and recharging can assist in understanding the root cause, as dealers often miss out on this while performing PDI (Pre-Delivery Inspections).
2.) The expansion valve (which is connected to Evaporator) getting blocked or partially opening. This could be due to a faulty component.

To conclude or understand the AC behavior we need a LP & HP line pressure data. I have attached a reference chart for getting an overview. Although, the pressure data chart varies brand to brand and models as well and the ASS team can check with manufacturer's data sheet to identify what is causing this short cycling.

I would advise you to visit another ASS and take their feedback on this and hope your concern is resolved as early as possible.

Thanks for your prompt response.
Cause 1 was my first doubt as well, but I can now confirm that 584g was present. Specification being 600g. Also, no frosting observed.
Cause 2 is spot on and most likely, however I do have my doubts about the Pressure Sensor switch as well.

Pressure Data Chart will be of great reference.

I will keep you updated on the outcome.

It seems that my other cars have a variable displacement compressor which utilize an external control valve to moderate cooling requirement.

2024 Mahindra Thar still uses a fixed displacement compressor which cycles to moderate cooling requirement.
Depending on the size of the compressor, ambient temperature & evaporator temperature, I have been reassured that this is normal/intended behaviour indeed.

Thanks
