Re: Zen Maintenance Manual / Tips Required

Re-opening a super old thread. So I get back to Bangalore last Monday after 6 months outside. And I take my Zen for a drive only to find that the car starter is a bit dodgy. It starts on the 4th attempt. Then the engine over-heats within 5 minutes and the A/c stops cooling. In fact the ac was working intermittently. So I took the car to Mars Service in Sanjay Nagar (they are the best I feel) and spent 6 hours with the car. Spent 11k getting it fixed! But it runs like a gem.

Now here is the reason for posting: In Feb I spent 13k for service, now 11k. Last year was 14k. So in 2 years I have spent 38k! Mine is 60,000km 2000 Zen AT. Do you think I am spending too much on this car? Do you think for this cost I can find a better car? Besides my car gives about 8kmpl.

The only reason I hang on to her is because it is the 1st car I ever bought with my hard earned (well ok, just earned!) money. Please advice. I shall scan and upload the bills for reference here so that you guys can give me a better insight.

Cheers!
Rohan

It is an old thread, but for new readers:-
You can download the owner's manual from the maruti site. Use the following link.

It would help if you uploaded the bills to know whether the service was justified.

Since you were away for 6 months, guess A.S.S. would have changed all the oils and filters - that would cost ~4-5k at max along with servicing.

Did you have the battery changed too?

Since the car is 60k kms, I'm sure the earlier servicings had things like suspension, clutch, timing belt etc. changed.

Again, upload the bills and then we'd know.

Don't judge if the car is worth it or not based on the bills - as things like not being used for long etc. can also cause a lot of consumables to be replaced/changed prematurely.

Zen is a wonderful car to own nevertheless

Re: Zen Maintenance Manual / Tips Required

Why the front strts and the rear shocks were replaced? Were they so bad. Then the timing belt replacement. These adds to a major chunk of the parts bill.
And the labour charges add together to much higher figure, though item-wise rates appear less except for strut overhaul which is nothing but fitment and for starter overhaul. You would have got a better discount if spoken to. You can seek discount even now and get it recorded to be adjusted with services to be done later.

Hi Rajeev,
Yes the front struts were squeaky and the car made a wierd sound at low speed. The rear shocks too was rattling and was due for replacement. For discount, please tell me how best to approach them. I have been giving my Zen to Mars for the past 5 years.

Cheers!

Hi Rohan, Talk to the service head or the unit head and convey your displeasure and point out the higher charges billed. definitely they will give discount. I am one hundred per cent sure. Do not hesitate act tomorrow itself. Best of luck.

Re: Zen Maintenance Manual / Tips Required

Re-opening an old thread that was initially re-opened by me itself! I plan to go to Coorg this weekend for a re-union. The car has not been serviced for quite some time. Same 2000 motel Zen AT. After dropping it for service, I was informed that the rear brake drums need to be replaced along with brake liner. Any idea how much this would cost? I will post the invoice here once I get it after service. Just want to know a ball park figure on how much would brake liner and brake drum cost.

Cheers!

Re: Zen Maintenance Manual / Tips Required

Hello team,

Need help. Bumping up an old thread to seek help on an issue in my zen lxi 2001 model (mpfi engine). Its run about 147375 kms when it went off. It has been maintained in maruti service for majority of its span (till about 90k kms), bosch ( till about 140k kms) and FNG for last 2 services. It has been services regularly and well kept.

It started jerking when driving sometime last week during lower speeds and after few kms it felt ok. It again repeated once more couple of days ago. And on friday morning when i took it out realized fuel was very low and filled up the tank at Essar oil in RR Nagar, Bangalore. Before this, it was always filled in shell almost always except when outside Bangalore few times.

Yesterday evening when i started driving back from office it ran fine for couple of km, jerked a bit for a km after that - and as i raised rpm and increased speed a bit it felt ok. Then after a speed breaker as i was trying to pick speed it shut off itself. Tried starting and it came back to life, went ahead a bit (about 100 mts) and switched off again. Tried couple of times and it came back to life and ran for another couple of 100 mt. Then it switched off. Tried few times, it didnt start. Couple of times it started but the moment i tried throttling it shut off. Called Maruti toll free no, promptly attended by them and noted details. Technician called me as promised reached me in 30 mins. Tried all checks including fuel lines, spark plus, electrical, fuses etc. couldn't trace. Suspected injectors and/or rail being faulty and towed the vehicle to service center. Today i followed up and they havent been able to identify root cause yet. Car is being attended by known service advisor and i can trust him. Car is in Surakshaa service in electronics city Bangalore.

Need experts advise and guidance on possible issue. This car was my first car and still runs like new (barring weakened brakes and rarely squeaking passenger seat). Please help.

Ps: typed on mobile, please excuse spelling mistakes if any.

Update: spoke to SA. They are still not able to find the rootcause of the issue. They tried different injectors and rails. But issue is not resolved. Hence trying to find the actual cause.
Please help point to a possible issue. Appreciate any support or help. Its been 4 days since the car is sitting in service center now (with 1 non-working day) and still these guys are clueless.

Fuel filter was replaced about a year back (around 133000 kms). SA told me that it may be a small issue somewhere that they are unable to lock into. May br electrical related is his suspicion. But why would it allow car to start and then cut itself off when tried to revv the throttle?

SA called me and confirmed distributor has gone kaput. Estimated cost is yet to be confirmed. On insisting he said it may be around 16000+ and suggested i sell the car rather than spend so much. Please suggest.
