When were your anti-roll bar bushes changed (if at all)? Please check their condition and replace if required.

Re: Uneven Tyre Wear?

Hi.

On 18th December 2019, our Wagonr hit a pothole at about 40kmph. I checked all the four tyres for any damage, but there was no damage to the tyres as well as the rims. But since the hit, the front suspension makes a slight noise on passing through a hard speed breaker or a pothole. Took the car to MASS multiple times but the SA said that it was not a major problem and I too just neglected the issue. The odometer reading at the time of the hit was around 10k kms.

Later, as months passed by and the car covered around 8k kms since the hit, the front left tyre had almost worn out, especially along the left edge. Did tyre rotation, checked for wheel alignment and balancing. The rear right tyre was replaced by the front left tyre.

A few days later, as a highway trip was planned, we decided to replace the rear right tyre with the spare tyre (This happened in early September 2020).

Now, again the front left tyre has worn out significantly. The current odometer reading is around 22k kms.

The tyres are Apollo Amazer 3G and all are stock tyres.

What shall I do? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Go to shops where WA machines that check alignment of all 4 wheels are available. The wear is probably related to a bent wishbone or a damaged strut.

If the alignment is fine, change that particular strut and see if the noise persists.

Camber is out of spec. Most likely a bent lower arm of the front suspension. Its quite inexpensive, have it replaced if necessary and align the suspension afterwards. You do have to replace two tires though, that is going to cost quite a bit.

Re: Uneven Tyre Wear?

Uneven tyre wear is always due to alignment going off. As you hit a pothole, some part of the suspension would have bent knocking the alignment.
Get the suspension checked for damage and replace the damaged parts. Then get the alignment checked, preferably by computerized machine.

Re: Uneven Tyre Wear?

Hi all. My Tata Nexon Diesel has run 22K kms in 3 years with 9 months of almost zero running in the lockdown. The first tyres are almost bare while the rear tyres have time to go. Any reasons for this excessive wear out? Also good options for a change from the OEM factory fits?

22k is way too low for tyres to go bad. The stock i assume are Bridgestones/MRFs which are quite hard wearing. Likely issue is with the alignment, or tyre pressure. At 15k service, the wheel alignment is part of the service, did you complain about this to the SA? As far as tyre replacement, Michelin is not available due to the import ban. Next best choices are Yokohama, Continental, Bridgestones, MRFs etc

Thank you. I suspected the alignment too. I am planning to ask the service centre since I am using the authorized service centre as per the schedule. The stock tryes are Goodyear

If you have not complained on it earlier, they will brush it off as wear. I had an issue with alignment on my Nano in the first 10k kms, they had replaced the tyre under warranty (barring some charges towards usage). This was back in 2015.

Thank you for your prompt reply. Took the car to FNG and checked for damage in lower arm and strut, but could not find any bend or damage in both the strut and the lower arm.

Checked the alignment for all the 4 wheels. The wheel alignment was found to be improper. The alignment has now been made proper. Will have to wait and watch.
