Just to give a different outside opinion, I own the Virtus but I won't even look at VW 1.0 cars because of their plain interiors. Quality doesn't matter to me if it doesn't look good. Rapid/Vento interiors look worse than Ciaz's. Nothing apart from hard plastics - not even a silver/wooden trim or anything piano/gloss black.

So, I'm definitely team VAG 2.0 rather than what they had previously. (Higher quality but cheaper looks with no comparable feature set)

Re: Problems with my brand-new Volkswagen Taigun | Recommendation = stay away!

This is so disheartening to read. We've owned a Polo and a Vento and both did give considerable issues especially the Polo. Nothing major but enough to be an irritant. No issues with Suzukis, Hondas and Hyundais. Neither has the brand equity or indeed the solid built quality of the VW/Skoda cars. But it is still a put off.

I have a GT 1.5 myself and have crossed 10k km in 3 months and it’s been a real fun experience! It’s a curse really - the car is so good to drive I can’t stop taking long trips for no reason.

The auto start stop function will switch the car on even when you are at a full stop waiting at a signal or your wife to get ready if it senses too much load on the battery/increase in cabin heat if Ac on.
All of this is there in the manual!

As for the hissing - check the vents. If the side vent is closed and the blower on full, it will hiss. Open up the passenger side vents and no more hiss.

I second this.

I bought my GT in November 2022, and had crossed 10k by March. I have done 200+ km trips just on a whim. The car is an absolute thrill to drive. Specially on twisty hilly roads it's just too good.

The auto start stop will "misbehave" if your AC is in auto. On manual temp setting there is no problem.
I don't have any hissing sound in the AC. So can't complain there.
I am aware of the driver side window issue and am waiting for VW to provide the fix, but it doesn't really matter that much, as I am driving with my windows up 99% of the time. The few occasions when I need to lower the windows it's kinda fun trying to guess what the window is going to do when I try to close it.

My humble opinion, this is one of the best automatic I have driven so far, and I have driven quiet a few of them. I'd wholeheartedly recommend the Taigun.

The only two cars worth buying now from VW are Tiguan or T-Cross. Taigun and Virtus are compromises and you don't get the German car feel in those.

Wow just about to book 1.5 Automatic and saw this note.. after weighing in multiple cars in this segment and price point I felt Taigun was more value for money compared to others

Experts here can shed some light!!

Re: Problems with my brand-new Volkswagen Taigun | Recommendation = stay away!

Wow reading this forum is putting me in a lot of confusion as I had more or less decided to get the Taigun 1.0 AT Highline variant as my first car. Esteemed members of the forum need your help now as I’m looking for that first car which is safe, reliable, fun to drive, spacious for 3 adults and 1 toddler! Kindly help as I need to decide soon!
Was thinking about Honda City V CVT but don’t know about ingress egress as my mother is nearing her 70s.

A lot depends on your mother's height. My mother is 5'1" 78 years, finds it easier getting in and out of a 4th gen City than a Jeep compass.

Hey buddy thanks for your reply. My mom is 5.4’ tall but has some back ache problems. Would a 5th gen city be comfortable for her? Need to check that and other options too

Re: Problems with my brand-new Volkswagen Taigun | Recommendation = stay away!

I also own Taigun for a year now and never faced any of the issues you mentioned. So I would like to say by modifying the title of your post "Recommendation = stay with it!"

Where as all the sympathy with the person facing issues with a new car, its not appropriate to outright say - stay away. Your post can influence others buying preference. BTW, its impossible to see any brand not having a single car with issues.

What I liked:
  • Really seamless pickup that is expected from a German make-car
  • Elegant (not too flashy exteriors/interiors)
  • Perfect for city riding - the car can effortlessly speed-up without any noticeable lag
  • Extremely smooth and comfortable ride - went on a ~500km long outstation trip on one of the newly opened expressways.
What I hated: (and this is the main reason for posting this thread)
  • Car fails to start - Car has failed to start two times since I bought it (once in my basement parking lot and the other time on the road randomly). Had to get it towed to the service center using VW roadside assistance (the roadside assistance service is awesome. Did not face any issues in using them. The towing vehicle comes within ~1hour of requesting).
Both the times, after pressing "start/stop" button, the engine simply fails to start. The electronic dashboard does not show any issue. No warning signal, simply nothing. The speedometer starts showing speed as 0km/hr as if just pressing the accelerator will get the car going).

Attaching a video of what exactly happens.

https://www.Youtube.com/watch?v=zWuXFzjKq2Q

Service center response:
- When the car reached the service center after getting towed, the issue automatically got resolved (probably, a lose connection issue). Service center was unable to replicate the issue and gave back the car after a few days of supposedly checking everything.
- Second time they contacted their "central office" and they changed something called a "Relay". They are hoping that it does not happen again and I am keeping my fingers crossed.

  • TPMS issue : TPMS failed to give any warning despite driving the car unintentionally on an almost flat tyre for atleast ~1km.
  • AC Noise : There is a strange hissing sound which is audible on low/cruising speed that comes only when the AC is on. I was told by service center that it is the way it was designed and I am supposed to believe that it is "normal". An informal conversation later revealed that it is an issue with all the Taigun cars and there is no way to rectify it.
  • Driver side window: Drive side window behaves erratically and does not close as expected. It is also a known issue with all the Taiguns and service center is waiting for a software fix for this for the last ~6months at least.
I am very concerned about issue #1 as it means I have not been able to use my car as a primary car till now. It can stop anytime on the road and that does not inspire confidence at all.

I have been a proud VW Polo owner for almost 8 years and it was disappointing to see the QC done with Taigun. Maybe my model is an outlier but given the experience I would recommend everyone to stay away from VW till such issues are fixed.

Re: Problems with my brand-new Volkswagen Taigun | Recommendation = stay away!

If you're the average car buyer with limited financial ability to absorb high cost and breakdowns and looking for the only car in the family, it might not be a good idea to get VW stuff in India. For everyone else, VW is the go-to choice eyes shut. The thrill of handling dynamics and generally good build can wipe away the occasional sorrows. I'd myself like to drive a VW someday, but can keep only a single car for now. So it's the mostly failsafe Maruti for now.

People keep saying the AC noise is a major issue. Is that still persist? Or VW fixed it at least with the new batches?
