Re: Problems with my brand-new Volkswagen Taigun | Recommendation = stay away!

In the video your steering is aligned towards left. Please check if your steering is locked or not. I had once same issue with my XUV700. So always have your right hand on steering and then press the start stop button. The car should definitely start.

Re: Problems with my brand-new Volkswagen Taigun | Recommendation = stay away!

This is another one of those instances which keeps me away from VAG cars. I was drooling over the Virtus (it looks H.O.T in Red) and would have booked it in a heartbeat if it wasn't a VAG car. However, having read multiple posts like yours and keeping in mind horror stories about their service (though I've heard things are improving), I just couldn't bring myself to buy one of their vehicles.

Someone I know asked my opinion on a 'good sedan' and is smitten by the Virtus 1.5 DSG. I've told him that its a gamble I wouldn't take.

Re: Problems with my brand-new Volkswagen Taigun | Recommendation = stay away!

I'd like to see the records and the picture of the instrument cluster where the display seem to show some message before the start button is pressed.

VAG cars and germans in general have quite a lot of pre-emptive warning lights built in compared to Japanese and Korean cars. While this is scary for a newbie, once you understand what they mean, it is very easy to live with. So, I'd be very surprised if nothing is show on the console.

Since the title has a recommendation that says "Stay away", I suggest we keep a good record of what has happened. This could be as simple an issue as the brake not being applied enough when the start button was pressed.

From Taigun and Kushaq I have learned to stay away from VW and Skoda. Soon there will be big discounts on these cars

Re: Problems with my brand-new Volkswagen Taigun | Recommendation = stay away!

I own a Virtus 1.5 GT, and have had a TPMS warning when the pressure was about 5Psi lower than other wheels. So i guess you need to SET the pressures once you fill correctly. With the Window issue, there's a software update which shall fix it.

For AC hissing noises, I've the same experience as yours and they say its normal.

WRT to vehicle not starting, from the video I'm able to see that you're struggling to get the gear lever to move from P which means you've parked solely on the P, which makes it hard to change the position, also your brake pedal was pressed harder to move, ensure your pedal is fully pressed as that might not allow it to start .

Re: Problems with my brand-new Volkswagen Taigun | Recommendation = stay away!

I have a Taigun 1.0L MT. TPMS is slightly different since it’s an older model - mine has only deflation warning and it works well once the tyre pressures are set properly.

As for the hissing sound, haven’t had this issue unless I use seat ventilation. This causes the additional blower to start which is very loud in my opinion and hissing sound appears from the boot, I guess that’s where the blower for this is situated. I very rarely use seat ventilation and mostly only in low speed setting of the blower.

Also being the older model it didn’t come with auto start stop feature. Driver window issue is very much still present. My car didn’t come with electrically folding ORVM, I’ve got quite used to its absence though.

Otherwise the car is brilliant for me. No quality issues, good mileage, great service my VW Mysore. Despite moderate usage having clocked 41000km in 14 months, the wife and myself are very happy with the car.

What I liked:
  • Really seamless pickup that is expected from a German make-car
  • Elegant (not too flashy exteriors/interiors)
  • Perfect for city riding - the car can effortlessly speed-up without any noticeable lag
  • Extremely smooth and comfortable ride - went on a ~500km long outstation trip on one of the newly opened expressways.
What I hated: (and this is the main reason for posting this thread)
  • Car fails to start - Car has failed to start two times since I bought it (once in my basement parking lot and the other time on the road randomly). Had to get it towed to the service center using VW roadside assistance (the roadside assistance service is awesome. Did not face any issues in using them. The towing vehicle comes within ~1hour of requesting).
Both the times, after pressing "start/stop" button, the engine simply fails to start. The electronic dashboard does not show any issue. No warning signal, simply nothing. The speedometer starts showing speed as 0km/hr as if just pressing the accelerator will get the car going).

Attaching a video of what exactly happens.

https://www.Youtube.com/watch?v=zWuXFzjKq2Q

Service center response:
- When the car reached the service center after getting towed, the issue automatically got resolved (probably, a lose connection issue). Service center was unable to replicate the issue and gave back the car after a few days of supposedly checking everything.
- Second time they contacted their "central office" and they changed something called a "Relay". They are hoping that it does not happen again and I am keeping my fingers crossed.

  • TPMS issue : TPMS failed to give any warning despite driving the car unintentionally on an almost flat tyre for atleast ~1km.
  • AC Noise : There is a strange hissing sound which is audible on low/cruising speed that comes only when the AC is on. I was told by service center that it is the way it was designed and I am supposed to believe that it is "normal". An informal conversation later revealed that it is an issue with all the Taigun cars and there is no way to rectify it.
  • Driver side window: Drive side window behaves erratically and does not close as expected. It is also a known issue with all the Taiguns and service center is waiting for a software fix for this for the last ~6months at least.
I am very concerned about issue #1 as it means I have not been able to use my car as a primary car till now. It can stop anytime on the road and that does not inspire confidence at all.

I have been a proud VW Polo owner for almost 8 years and it was disappointing to see the QC done with Taigun. Maybe my model is an outlier but given the experience I would recommend everyone to stay away from VW till such issues are fixed.
I just bought a virtus 1.5gt. I haven't faced this issue yet, probably because I'm just 300km in. However I'll tell you the issue I'm facing. It's the auto start stop function. I see a red signal, i come to a stop, the engine will turn off. I see that there is a 100s timer for signal to turn green. However, the engine will turn on after around 30s and continue to keep idling. Then i have to turn the ignition off manually and move the gear selector to P.

The other issue I'm facing is, whenever i start the car, there is a wierd noise coming from, probably the ac vent. As if the ac fan is blowing air against a closed outlet. I don't know if any of the other virtus owners are facing this.

Re: Problems with my brand-new Volkswagen Taigun | Recommendation = stay away!

The relay appears to be getting heated because of continuous use through the start stop function. It stops working after sometime because of the heat build up and resumes working after it cools down.

If you can, avoid using the start stop function. That should stop the issue.

Looking for a permanent solution may not be advisable as they may play around with other areas creating other issues. Sometimes a compromise will give you peace of mind.

This happens in my car (Virtus) too, I think I saw some videos where it was explained why this happens and it has to do with cabin getting hotter, battery etc. You will learn to live with it. I sometimes turn it off if I dont want to be bothered with dealing with it. Sometimes I let it do its thing, knowing when I release the brakes, it will come to life.

The AC sound issue has been discussed a lot too, when the vehicle starts there are intermittent hissing noises, somewhat like the sound from those old coffee machines.

Even my uncle who owned a Vento would also say that. He would use their service once a few months and made some good friends within the VW towing truck groups. Some even came to his daughter's wedding and some invited him to be the chief guest at their retirement functions.

They do such a good job because they are always on duty like the police. Never stationary but patrolling. They know they will at least get a few calls every day so why not be proactive.

VW, the best RSA management company in the world. Thank God they don't manufacture those towing machines.

Re: Problems with my brand-new Volkswagen Taigun | Recommendation = stay away!

For some strange reason Skoda quality is better although it's the same umbrella. I loved red Virtus but cancelled it after a test drive.

My 10 year old Rapid felt far stronger and reliable than a brand new Virtus. And I was so happy to drive my Rapid after I test drove Virtus

Volkswagen don't seem to have their game in place in India and that's the reason Skoda is leading the group in India vis a vis vice versa in other countries.

Hoping you get a reliable resolution to your issues with minimal fuss.

Re: Problems with my brand-new Volkswagen Taigun | Recommendation = stay away!

I got the VW Polo when it first came out in 2010 in India. Great looks and a very well built car. You could feel the sturdiness when you closed the doors.

However, just over a year down the line, the engine head had to be changed since the whole engine was vibrating when driven at high speed on a highway. And this was quite a common problem with the first batch of the Polo's and quite a few owners reported the problem. Fortunately, I had extended warranty, so it did not cost me; but it was not a good experience. So much for the famous German engineering. Decided then that I will never get a VW ever again.

Even before that, my uncle owned a Skoda Octavia which suffered a clutch failure and the whole assembly had to be replaced at an exorbitant cost.

Hence, I really have reliability concerns regarding the VW/Skoda group and with their minimal presence across India (in terms of workshops), I am not at all comfortable taking these cars on long drives.

Re: Problems with my brand-new Volkswagen Taigun | Recommendation = stay away!

Dang, very harsh post headline! Cars are mechanical and sometimes issues arise. VW has been proactive and changed the relay - after which it doesn’t seem like the issue cropped up again, so why the fuss?!

I have a GT 1.5 myself and have crossed 10k km in 3 months and it’s been a real fun experience! It’s a curse really - the car is so good to drive I can’t stop taking long trips for no reason.

The auto start stop function will switch the car on even when you are at a full stop waiting at a signal or your wife to get ready if it senses too much load on the battery/increase in cabin heat if Ac on.
All of this is there in the manual!

As for the hissing - check the vents. If the side vent is closed and the blower on full, it will hiss. Open up the passenger side vents and no more hiss.

Slightly OT. While test driving the Slavia, I felt my 2018 Rapid have far better interior quality and overall "strong" feeling than the new Slavia. With the India 2.0 strategy, they are doing cost cutting all around, especially in areas like interior quality. Being said that, even the Slavia's interior quality is isn't bad per se. But it simply used to be better in their previous gen cars.

As to the original post, if the issue was resolved after the relay change, please enjoy munching miles on the new ride. Whatever said, that DSG is definitely something which brings smiles everytime one's behind the wheel
