Volkswagen Polo suspension & noise issues

Hi All,

This is my first question in team bhp, please bear me with grammatical errors.

I have recently learnt driving and owns my uncle's 2014 model VW Polo Comfortline petrol which ran over 50k kms, the car was abandoned for 14 months during pandemic and spent nearly 60k on services and painting, still I'm having following issues,

1. Suspension noise - often when going through speed bumps im getting a air leakage noise ( like those sounds which we hear in buses )

2. Noises - whenever i cross 60km/hr the car seems to produce noises like diesel engine, though its not very high or alarming, just wanted to if its common in all polo's

3. Wobbling - the car seems to wobble after 80km/hr, my friend suggests changing tyres as it haven't been changed since from beginning

Can you please advice on above issues, as being a new driver and got scammed a lot, the service cost is giving me night mares daily.

I can’t speak to any of the other issues, but if you’re still running on the original tyres from 2014, that’s most likely the cause of the wobble.

My 2015 Polo had the same issue on its stock tyres at about 6 years of age, and I’d always notice a very unsettling wobble at high speeds. Replaced the stock tyres with a new set of Yokohama Earth-1, and the drive was incredibly stable at high speeds with no trace of a wobble anymore. I’d also upsized the tyres from 185 to 195, but I believe the age of the tyres was the main factor here.

1. Slight hissing sound from suspension dampers is normal. It was there in my old Polo as well. As a precaution, you can inspect the shocks, for any leakage etc.

2. Please create a video of when it makes this noise and post it back here. Also, lift up the bonnet, start the car up, and revv it out. Make a video of this as well.

3. Take the vehicle to a good tyre shop. Get balancing & alignment done.
Change the tyres, if you see cracks.

If feasible do share what went into this bill, might not be directly related but a learning nevertheless.

Your three issues have been aptly answered by abhishek46 and danny_d, I have nothing more to add.

Do note that the service of any brand/car doesn't have to be expensive. Just do it on schedule and as per the manual(typically 10k kms/annual, Polo is 15k I think) making sure the vitals like the oils, filters and coolant are changed on schedule and the rest could be handled as they crop up.

Worry less, drive more, you've an excellent car as your first
