With this, there is slight improvement in ride quality, but drop in FE by around 1kmpl.

Re: Suspension Upgrade | Honda City

Interesting Read... Anyone here having experience with ARC suspension on 2012 Honda City?

Recently went on a drive to Goa. Car becomes boat on bad patch of road and on hilly sections rear end drifts on slightly moderate cornering.

Suggestions are welcome.

Re: Suspension Upgrade | Honda City

An update:

After reading suggestions from fellow members, esp. sagarpadaki, changing the springs made sense.

I ended up changing the following:

- All 4 springs, rear struts (stock were leaking, now running TRW here as well),

- Associated rubber parts (spring mounts, strut mounts etc.)

- Both lower arms (aftermarket ball joint developed noise)

The SA at Honda told me that the front springs were indeed sagging, both were around 1.2 - 1.3 cm shorter than new springs, rear one's were mostly fine.

And indeed, there is a noticeable difference, the overall ride has gone from sometimes bothersome to mostly acceptable. Handing too has improved, car feels tight, turning into a corner actually feels fun again. Although it does feel a bit stiff, I guess the new springs and new rear struts will settle in a little while.

Key takeaways so far:

- TRW struts are definitely better than Honda OEM - certainly a noticeable improvement in highway manners I feel.

- If your car is old, change your springs as well at the time of suspension overhaul (worth the additional ~4000 INR)

Unfortunately, it's an older car, if you're enthusiastic about your car like I am, stock setup leaves a lot to be desired.

My search for better, more VFM aftermarket options in still on, I do have some valid information, I will make a separate post about that soon.

Also hoping to actually write an ownership thread soon, it's long overdue.

Cheers!

Re: Suspension Upgrade | Honda City

My 2 cents -
I added RogerAB spacers to all 4 tyres. I initially installed in the middle of the spring (as recommended by manufacturer). I hated it, ride felt more stiffer bumpy at low speeds and car had a tendency to bounce on hitting sharp potholes/speed breaker.

After reading online, I moved the spacers to top spring, this completely changed the suspension characteristics. Now it has a progressive quality to it, soft like stock shocks at low speeds, but does not bottom out as much and has a lot better highway manners.

Anyone using RogerAB spacers on city 3rd gen, should try fitting it on top spring, might just be what you are looking for

Can you tell me whether you opted for oem springs or after market if so, which one did you select.

I have 2010 used Honda city purchased in 2021. As I travel with family to village so the car is fully loaded with passengers as well as luggage which makes the rear dips down and the front up, this makes it scrape over speed breakers. I have fitted Rogerab buffers on all four springs plus spacers at the rear, this has solved my problem partially.

I am trying to find stiffer springs but can't find any. Only shockers are available. So I was thinking whether I can fit 2014 model springs to mine (2010).

If anyone has tried this please advice.
Also is there anyone who is using ARC suspension liftkit.

Re: Suspension Upgrade | Honda City

I use a 2008 City VTEC. I’ve recently replaced my car’s stock suspension with the OEM struts and rear dampers.
Thr 2008 City got Showa struts and dampers and that’s what I got from the HASS. The ride is decent but as mentioned above the suspension is noisy only at low speeds going over bumps and into potholes. High speed comfort and handling is decent.
I’d love to know more about any aftermarket options as I’m going to continue using my city for a while. Any one has any info on the TRW struts? Thank you!

Suspension Recommendation for Honda City

Hi all,

Recently copped a used Honda City 2014 in May. It was my first personal car ever, so there are a lot of lapses in my technical knowledge when it comes to cars, and their parts.

Lately, I haven’t been feeling very good with the ride quality, the sound it makes when going over bumps and potholes, and I feel it has got to do with suspensions. I have tried noticing the ride quality in my Venue (family car) and other cars and I feel there’s a huge difference when it comes to ride quality.

Had it been some other car, I wouldn’t have minded much but I really do want that Honda City feel when I’m driving around.

So far, I’m planning to send my car away to WheelsWisdom to understand what parts might be causing the issue in Suspensions, if I should go for a replacement or a repair, and other things that might need an overhaul.

Since there is a good chance that I might have to replace certain parts of suspension, what brands do you suggest on getting?

I plan on using the car for the next 7 years (provided the baseless 15 year rule doesn’t get applied in entire India).
I’m looking for something solid, durable, equivalent or better than OEM suspension parts.

Seeking advice of fellow members, cheers!

Could you provide information on where did you source the TRW shockers and where was the fitment done?

Re: Suspension Upgrade | Honda City

Might be a late reply but since I was looking for something similar, I observed TRW available on Boodmo, I was looking for OEM damper and a few other things bit none of those are available currently.

Re: Suspension Upgrade | Honda City

Hi All,

I have a 2012 Honda City and it has run about 45k kms in last 12 years. Lately hearing more thuds and squeaks from the front suspension and looks like I would need to look at replacing some of the parts at front. Here is my list :

1) Front suspension struts - Mostly like these are shot in the last 12 years or it might be just the rubber mounting that is failing
2) Lower arms - the squeaks while maneuvering bumps are clearly signs of failed arm bushes but as I can see these Honda City do not come with replaceable bushes but instead changing the whole arm instead.

For the above could you recommend the best aftermarket OEMS as I cannot see Honda parts available in local shops nor in Boodmo.

Thanks in advance.

Its quite difficult to source Honda parts through FNG.
Plus, non-OEM parts which are available in after-market are not reliable.
So, I would strongly recommend suspension overhaul from Honda ASS.

Mine is also same generation Honda City.
I got suspension overhaul done last week. Cost was around 45k & its worth it.
Now it runs like a new car.
I wish I can keep this one with me for at least another 5 years (although I need to keep watch on other parts ).

45k ? Could you share the list of things you changed if you don't mind? I am looking for TRW as replacements but then again not able to source them. Everyone around here just says change to Gabriel & Monroe which apparently is easily available.

My 2015 Honda City needs suspension overhaul. Can you suggest reliable garage for upgrade and how much it costs?

Re: Suspension Upgrade | Honda City

For changing suspension, always head to the OEMs. Local chopshops will try to sell you the Monroes and ARCs. Just not worth it in my experience as none of them have the compatibility know how and most of the parts are also not genuine. Got rear dampers of my 2017 City replaced last month. Cost me around 17k from HSC (Dakshin Honda, Bangalore). The suspension feels as good as new. Planning to replace the front strut assembly once it crosses 90k in the Odo. Have also upgraded the tyres from the stock Ecopia (185/55/16) to Sturdo (195/55/16). Have massively improved ride quality while sacrificing slightly on fuel economy.

Hello brother,
I've been reading yours and fellow bhpians threads.
I've done a total of 2 shocks replacement in 2 months. I've changed to monroe from oem first and they were ok first, but broken in 2 month's due to unknown reasons. I've changed it with gabriel and is now currently running on my 2011 model honda city.
Ive spent almost 25k for nothing but regret. Even though I've advised some upgrades like spring change but the mechanics just reject it because of reasons like they don't make a substantial improvement and unavailability of compatible springs. I bought this car for some fun in the road while having a comfortable drive. Even though I love my car this suspension issue is a really pain in the back. Now I'm ready for another major mod, and I would like to know about your city's condition now. Is it any improving, if so please mention the upgrades you've done.
Thanks
