Re: CarCat - An Ultrasonic Rat Repellent

With due apologies, I do not believe is such products until mainstream product companies like havells or eveready ot minda or renowned car accessory companies too have something similar available.

Even the mosquito racquets are popular and available from major brands too.

These rat kill, cat go etc. kind of products to me seem like the ones being sold by Jackie Shroff, Govinda on Naaptoll, TVN, Teleshoppers type of channells.

In my opinion, ultrasonic noise source just produces noise. All living creatures filter out noise after repeated exposure to it, unless it is so loud that it causes pain (ask mumbai folks living on the railway tracks - they don't even realize the noise thy are exposed to every few minutes of their lives).

Re: CarCat - An Ultrasonic Rat Repellent

Recently faced rat bit issues in my 3 series when I was away for a few weeks on a business trip to US. The ABS malfunction indicator came on indicating some wires near the sensors had been bitten. Luckily the damage did not exceed 5k at Deutshce Motoren Whitefield Bangalore.

I was advised to get the 3M anti rat coating done that is supposed to last for 3-4 months and costs 2.5K. In addition, I got the Homecat Ultrasonic rat repellant installed in my garage that promises a coverage of 1000 sqft.I did have a rat repellant hot wired in my previous car (SX4), but this will drain the battery is the car is not used 3-4 days.

If you have a garage or covered parking, make sense to have the wired version connected to your 220V home socket installed and kept on.

I recommend you buy direct from the manufacturer as there are many imitations and fakes. The only downside is that the unit consumes battery power so if your car is parked for long you need to take care of that.

I am also using the same product for more than 2 years. Even after using this, I have noticed rats entering engine bay but never caused any wire damage. The rats have chewed the foam parts away. Then I started applying rat repellent spray and the combination is working as of now.

Re: CarCat - An Ultrasonic Rat Repellent

I've bought this product from Amazon with dicey mind, its lying inside the car since 2 weeks without installation. After going through the comments on this thread, I'm bit hesitant to install this device in my new car fearing battery drain issue.

Although, in product brochure, it is mentioned that after reaching certain voltage (can't recollect), this device cuts off from power source automatically to prevent complete battery drain. Not sure if it really works.

OT: For the very same reason, I've not hard wired the dash cam and connected it to car charger USB port. Due to no hard wiring, dashcam turns off after engine off and I'm missing continuous park recording. But I feel its better than a situation where new car needs a jump start.

Re: CarCat - An Ultrasonic Rat Repellent

Anyone on the fence of buying this Carcat device, now is the good time. Amazon is selling as a lightening deal for 2990/- plus some coupon discount.

I wanted to buy it but was putting it off as was not very sure on effectiveness, but buying one now.
