The next day the issue cropped up again and now my car is back at the service center for round 2. Hopefully it gets fixed this time. Will ask them to check the points mentioned in the thread.
Just a quick update. I got my car back a few days ago. It has been running fine. The service center says that they did checked the entire cooling system, made a point to ask them about everything mentioned above. They weren't able to find any issues. They also took it for a long drive just to make sure. No issues cropped up, so they sent it back. I have a suspicion that there was some minor mistake at their end during the initial repair which they quietly rectified this time around. This suspicion is simply because they didn't charge me a dime for the follow up which involved them checking everything, a long drive and the pick up and drop. This generosity is alien to my experience with VW service. Anyway, happy the car is back. Hope the issue is actually resolved whatever the case may be.

I have a 2016 Vento TSI and facing an issue of engine noise while idling and at slow speeds. If the car is driven above 40Km/h the sound disappears or the sound is not noticeable. Showed the car to Volkswagen service centre at Rajajinagar, Bangalore. The service advisor called me up and said that the water pump is faulty and need to be replaced. The coolant level has not dropped noticeably and I have not seen an increase in engine temperatures. The AC is working fine as well. Has anyone faced a similar issue? Can it be a water pump issue without the car showing an increased temperature?

Using this thread as the SA has identified it as a water pump issue.

Re: Cooling system failure in my VW Polo GT TSI

I own a 2018 GT TSI with 74000 kms on ODO. Yesterday, on a short 4 km temple visit, car showed coolant temp light blinking with temp increasing up to 125 deg C. I checked the coolant level and it was perfect, Fan was also running. I suspected Thermostat gone kaput. Rested the car overnight. Started in morning and let the engine warm upto 90 deg C. Then did a 14 kms test drive to check if the error is repeated and nothing. Car is running perfect. Could it be the coolant temperature sensor malfunction? But then how come it shows gradual temp increase in instrument cluster until 90 deg C? I have a 400 kms long drive day after tomorrow and service center is about 60 kms from where my car is currently. Is it safe to drive to service center to get it checked? VW technician says a long drive is required since thermostat cant be diagnosed by scan. Its a trial and error method in case of thermostat. If Thermostat is gone then it should not have run normal for today's 14 km test drive. Any help and guidance shall be highly appreciated.
