re: Video: GoMechanic Review | AC Service Fraud

Someone at YouTube pointed out that the video could have been created to influence GoMechanic negatively. Here I'm attaching the invoice, that can be matched to the date/time shown in the video.

re: Video: GoMechanic Review | AC Service Fraud

Looks like this video has touched a nerve at GoMechanic. Out of curiosity I was going through the comments. I saw a very similar pattern who were supporting GoMechanic in the video uploaded by OP. I did some “research” and I see that one of the person opened a YouTube account just to post a positive comment on the video. And who would that be? No prizes for guessing - A GoMechanic employee

Yeah, saw that too... they are literally trying every trick in their book... calling me again and again to get this removed. I told them, the good things that you guys have done as action have already been mentioned in video's description and it's a fair ground now. You can't buyout all the negative reviews...

re: Video: GoMechanic Review | AC Service Fraud

Making fake accounts to create positive comments, fake reviews and begging the complaining customer to take down proof is just bad management.

Remember, the new gen consumers are not stupid. It takes 3-4 taps on the screen to easily figure out who is genuine and who is a bootleg account. That one video and teambhp's post can cause a pretty substantial damage to a company that annoys the living crap out of my youtube watch hours

Cannot help agree with this.

Low-level cheating - in everyday transactions - is at epidemic proportions in urban India (where >50% population lives). This is very distinctly noticeable, especially if one has travelled to a few other countries.

Perhaps the extent of deprivation - between haves and have nots - could be a reason. A large part of our population is really poor struggling for basic needs that the Indian 'upper middle class' takes for granted. Interesting there are also historical roots for this kind of behavior - thuggery, dacoity - are all of Indian origin. Not trying to put down our people, but something to reflect and act on.

re: Video: GoMechanic Review | AC Service Fraud

I have used GoMechanic services twice. Its the complete opposite of what they show in their ads. Its basically a FNG who has a GoMechanic representative on their management. I just used their service for painting bumpers in 2019 and cleaning/polishing entire car inside out in 2020. So far have had a good experience but the stuff they claim i.e. fully sanitised workshops, social distancing, temperature checks etc is pure hogwash. In November 2020 i had given my car for cleaning, polishing and i was there in their workshop the whole day. Maybe that's why they did the job work pretty well. Much better than dealer workshops. What i observed many of the mechanics don't even know how to slot gears. They always make grinding noise while reversing.

re: Video: GoMechanic Review | AC Service Fraud

For GoMechanic this video is like being "Caught with your pants down"

I would not generalize that all online/app based consumer services are cheaters and fleecing money, as many have also been like saviours during these trying times. It's just that you learn from your experience.

I agree, these idiots need to be named and shamed whenever they are found cheating you, making some quick buck. They fail to understand the larger and long term impact on business such behaviour might result in.

Slightly unrelated, but had a similar experience with Aapka Painter couple of months back. Being tired of the substandard quality work of local painters, I considered them to offer a quality service as this was an "online service provider" against the will of my father, mother, wife (what should they know). They surveyed the work and offered me a quote, post which I made an advance payment. That was it, from that point onwards, their local contractor started questioning my choice of considering online service provider and not directly contacting them, followed by labourers suggesting why I should have directly given task to labourer, then understanding that contractors leaving job just after 1st day, followed by supervisor straight away denying a certain work was not part of the scope of work as that has a different term to what is mentioned in my quote, one of the worst finishing jobs and post completion 0 cleaning jobs. Laborer's using our washroom for spitting tobacco and what not expecting us to clean our toilets post they paint it red

I just wanted those jokers out of my home. Complained to the too arrogant supervisor and than to regional manager but it felt like talking to a wall.
Finally accepted my family knows a lot more than me about dealing with such service providers

re: Video: GoMechanic Review | AC Service Fraud

I posted this on close to 9 different comments after due search on LinkedIn, but then deleted them. I was essentially spamming the spammers

"XXXXXXX, your LinkedIn profile says you are employed with GoMechanic as XXXXX since XXXX 20XX.
Remember, the consumer today is not a fool. We know the difference between genuine customers and spammers like you trying to defame a genuine and horrible experience.
A few taps on a phone and truth comes out. Got a problem with that? Ask your company to stop scamming innocent consumers".

Remembered, that I am not in a position to face any kind of legal hassles (what with Visa application and what not) which such comments would have warranted if a company decides to pursue me. You never know, in today's India, who might be booked for posting what on the internet.

But this being Team-BHP, I can be honest. It is absolutely shocking to see a company using such underhand practices to try and bury the truth.
Partner Mechanics cheating customers, that is known. But a company making it's employees post negative comments on such a horrendous experience is just shambolic. Are these companies under the influence that we, the consumers, are so daft?

re: Video: GoMechanic Review | AC Service Fraud

Coming from a fellow newbie, I am glad you did what you did. And also got the idea from you to install a dash cam in my car before sending it off to any service centre. ASS or FNG. Thanks a lot.

re: Video: GoMechanic Review | AC Service Fraud

This is pure disgusting method of conducting business.
Where's the integrity in doing business? It can certainly be written off as an isolated case. But it'll deter a lot of people living in and around Pune to trust this platform with their car and the work they ought to get done.

As someone mentioned, the additional training the GoMechanic guys will get is to turn off the dashcam if equipped. These new businesses are more about turnover - not trust, I suppose.

re: Video: GoMechanic Review | AC Service Fraud

Thanks for exposing this scam.

Like somebody mentioned in this forum, the first thing the mechanics will do now is to disable or remove the dashcams before taking it to the garage.

My experience with GoMechanic was extremely disappointing. I had given my Hyundai i10 for servicing & overall check on Clutch and brakes (they have a package for the same). To my surprise the mechanic mentioned that they have to just change the liner which will cost INR 1600. The car was delivered with free wash. To my horror the car started started giving issues the very next day. When i escalated this to GoMechanic, they asked me to come to the garage which i declined. They got somebody to take the car but returned it saying that it has been fixed.

Day 31 & the clutch stopped functioning. I was not able to slot the gears. When I checked with GoMechanic, they informed that the guarantee period is over and they cannot do anything. With no option available, i had to ask GoMechanic to assign another garage which they promptly did as this was a new service. They gave me the estimated cost of 8000 to completely change the clutch.

The garage took 2 days only to give me an updated estimate of 16000. They also informed that the initial amount mentioned is just a estimate and actual amount is always more based on the actual inspection of the parts. And since they have already opened the parts, I will still have to pay for labor in case I do not want to go ahead. Add to this the charges of towing in case they are not able to engage the clutch.

I understood that this is the scam that GoMechanic is running in cahoots with the garage. I paid them 16k and asked them to fix it. I then went to a known garage only to be told that not all the parts were replaced. On sharing this feedback with GoMechanic, they simply kept asking me to visit the same garage and gave me a complimentary car wash coupon.

I did check with friend who owns a garage in Mumbai (Thane). He suggested that I visit a known garage directly rather than going through GoMechanic. Many of his know garage owners are making a lot of money by partnering with GoMechanic.
When asked what service/parts they make the most money, he said any paint job, coatings, polish is where they make the most money by using sub-standard products and using shortcuts. e.g. instead of the recommended number of coats, they simply do a light coat, polish with cheap car wax & return the car charging the total amount mentioned on the app. I have uninstalled the GoMechanic app and now give my car to a known garage where I can inspect the work myself and have the satisfaction of not being duped.
