re: Water leakage & electrical issues in my brand new 2020 Tata Harrier. EDIT: Solved (page 6)

And I voted for the Harrier AT over others in another poll on the forum just yesterday.

This is just not acceptable on a 20+ lac rupee car.

Tata builds a good product, and then ruins it themselves by not being able to complete the QC properly.

Tata is yet to mature a lot if they have to establish itself in the premium car market. People like their products and then move away just because of these incidents even today.

re: Water leakage & electrical issues in my brand new 2020 Tata Harrier. EDIT: Solved (page 6)

Having interned for 2 months at a vendor of Tata, I am genuinely not surprised this issue came up. Although I worked on a different product, the vendors of Tata really need to buckle up. Quality standards are not strictly looked up on, which might result in such issues.

Also, this issue should have come up during the final quality check. It is honestly sad to spend 20L on a car and face this right in the beginning.

Actually, not acceptable in any new car.

To the OP - wish you good luck with the fix.

re: Water leakage & electrical issues in my brand new 2020 Tata Harrier. EDIT: Solved (page 6)

This is pretty much a very common issue in almost all manufacturers. I have worked with a few of the dealerships and private workshops, this is a sheer QC issue happens due to multi platform large scale production (includes local & overseas production in a single manufacturing unit). However,as the concern has been addressed by the dealership and rectified, please do keep an eye for another 2-3 weeks if still the issue persists may be the drain pipe has to be corrected or be replaced or a drain duct integrated to the chassis might be choking the drain path. Congratulations for your new ride and hope to see a lot of travel stories with your mighty compact crossover SUV.

Not only the vendors but also 'Tata' should buckle up and realise that having good cars that are marketed as the "safest" in the segment etc, they need to focus on QA during manufacturing and also having a genuinely tighter hold on all their vendors.

Current cars in the Tata line-up are really good and I wish they succeed even more in sales along with proper standards at their ASC's.

re: Water leakage & electrical issues in my brand new 2020 Tata Harrier. EDIT: Solved (page 6)

There is something about Tata, since the days of Sierra/Sumo to Safari and now with Hexa and Harrier, that always gives a vibe of utilitarian or basic car and not a luxury product.

Now don't get me wrong, Tata has come a long way, while the Sumo and Sierra were utilitarian, badly put-together cars, they always were spacious, fairly reliable and filled an important gap when Innova and other MUVs weren't around, and now with Hexa, Harrier and Nexon they've truly given a car for every need with much improved refinement, build and interiors.. however the fit+finish, shut lines, refinement and overall niggleproofing has always been the shortcoming of any Tata product.

I was also surprised to read on the first page that Tata literally had not put much efforts in the making of Harrier, since the engine was Fiat's, the transmission was Hyundai's and platform was Land Rover's, all they had to do was test the 3 together extensively and ensure tight fit and finish and refinement, even that they failed to do. Long, long way to go.

re: Water leakage & electrical issues in my brand new 2020 Tata Harrier. EDIT: Solved (page 6)

update : Part reached the dealer and got fitted . TATA zonal customer manager told that they shipped the part via air due to pressure from higher ups . Again thanks a ton to TeamBHP.

The customer manager told me they will test the vehicle with diagnostic tools for around 100kms , will do a PDI and handover the car tomorrow morning

The part is drain hose assembly and part no is 541283406024

Planning to have a long drive of 400km tomorrow again and will update

Personal rant : May be my action of going to social media might resulted in TATA bashing but it worked with a speedy delivery so that our wedding travel plans are still intact : it was a necessary evil . I worked with JLR as an ADAS engineer(as a part of TATA Elxsi) and love the sucess of TATA as a brand .

Sadly this AC drain pipe leaking is not an isolated case here. I have seen this in some JTPs as well.
Come on TATA, what is this!

Another update :

The service team find electrical malfunctions like sports mode and eco mode not working along with some other electrical switches too. There is a possibility of vehicle to be in service station for long and they are going to give us another car for travelling to Kerala. Am having a feeling that if this a lemon. Losing confidence.

This is sad. Like others here in the forum, I was hoping this resolves for you quickly and positively. I would request that you look at it objectively and keep a positive outlook like you have so far.

Drive mode failure would be due to some sensor or wiring issue and should be easy for the TASS folks to sort out. For the time being, may be you can finish your travel with the loaner car and then give them time to resolve this.
As there is already a lot of heat generated for this, I am sure they will do a thorough job and sort it out.
All the best.

re: Water leakage & electrical issues in my brand new 2020 Tata Harrier. EDIT: Solved (page 6)

Update

The Tata team and Varenyam Tech team worked through the night of 18th Sep till 19th Sep evening when we received the car. There were several ECU error codes which were fixed by them.

The Tata team had joined the tech team remotely.

They did excellent work. Did over a hundred km of test drive themselves to make sure nothing happened again.

The Zonal CRM of Tata, Mr Prakash Bidve personally monitored each and every development remotely. He gave us updates twice or thrice daily and never hesitated in being helpful. Similarly, the CRM of Varenyam motors and their tech team treated us very graciously. They were extremely open to all our queries and abating all our fears. Their behaviour and commitment made us feel special.

The whole experience has been good (apart from the issues with the car). We got a call from Mr Bidve and the Varenyam CRM today just to check on the vehicle. We are currently on a 400 km test drive. Till now no issues and enjoying the drive with all the glory of this beautiful machine. Hopefully no more issues crop up. TATA has gone above and beyond professional customer care and made it very lovely and personal.

re: Water leakage & electrical issues in my brand new 2020 Tata Harrier. EDIT: Solved (page 6)

Wish you a happy and safe journey. Glad to know that all the issues are sorted out. Don't let these initial issues spoil your long term ownership experience. Our Tata Sierra, within 1 month of purchase met with an accident, a head on collision with a lorry (drunk lorry driver hit our Sierra at 60+ kmph) and entire front end (bumper, radiator, condenser, complete front end suspension components steering rack, ride side tyre, wheel, etc were replaced. As per my Dad. not even a hair follicle of occupants in the cabin moved. The cabin is intact and everyone were safe. Such is the build quality of TATA vehicles. Everyone asked Dad to get rid of that car, but he kept it and it is still serving us from the last 24 years and it clocked 2,52,000 kms so far. Enjoy your ride, take care of it, and it will care care of you.

re: Water leakage & electrical issues in my brand new 2020 Tata Harrier. EDIT: Solved (page 6)

Congratulations on the purchase.

Sad to read about the water drip, but if is any consolation, it happened on our Baleno too (when new). I agree that this should not happen, but having experienced the service of Tata (Nano), Hyundai (Xcent) and Maruti (Baleno) in the recent past, I will say that you won't be shortchanged by Tata. The others are way worse except Toyota, which is the gold standard.

I had to get my Xcent issue fixed outside the service center because everytime it visited the showroom service folks, they just told me to change sparkplugs or some other random thing, without diagnosing the root cause. Give the Tatas a chance again and don't lose trust. The Harrier is a very competent vehicle, and will serve you for many years.

OT: I find it funny that many folks will diss a product due to a small (but unacceptable) fault in QC, but be less brutal with critical failures like the Creta brake issue and the Toyota airbag failures.

All is well that ends up well.

Happy to see the way how the matter was handled by them. Let's hope that any more issues won't be there with this beautiful car.
