re: Paint peeling off on a 3-year old Hyundai i20 Active. EDIT: Many more Hyundais affected

The problem seems to be getting worse. Just spotted a White Creta with the exact same problem. Started exactly near that part of the tailgate where the glass meets metal. Looked U-G-L-Y.

The primer was showing through clearly and it looked like a local garage had prepped the tailgate by applying primer but hadn't applied successive coats of paint.

Hyundai needs to act ASAP before things take a turn for the worse. Seems that the problem is only limited to white cars, since there doesn't seem to be a single spotting of any other colour showing this problem.

Seems like this is a widespread problem (with a specific batch probably). I too, spotted a Creta in CHD yesterday, with exactly the same peeling pattern (tailgate, near the glass).

Is it because of auto companies shifted to water based paints we are seeing more durability issues.
My 2009 white Verna's paint is still holding good even after years of abuse, whereas my Nexon's paint seems very flaky with quite a few paint chips already and scratches due to bird droppings.

When I got my Nexon detailed, the professionals there said that the paint quality is exceptional, like the German cars. I don't know if the newer models have deteriorated.

These are pics of my friend’s 8 year old Hyundai Eon. Car has never been repainted, parked in the open. This again seems to be the tailgate area.

Mine is 2018 November manufactured Nexon AMT. Maybe a brilliant chap at Tata decided to implement lean six sigma on the paint process with the intention of reducing cost without the customer not readily noticing the change.

Hyundai cars paint peeling off looks terrible.Maybe some particular random batches of sheet metals were not galvanized well enough to compensate for chennai(coastal) weather conditions.

re: Paint peeling off on a 3-year old Hyundai i20 Active. EDIT: Many more Hyundais affected

Just to add my white Elite i20 to the list. After following this thread, thought of posting my issue here. Like others, paint has started peeling off just below the rear windshield. Looking at the other snaps, I feel it may spread in some time.

1 more case to report
The paint was peeling off the bonnet in a friend’s white i20.
I observed that most of the cars affected are white on colour and are mostly Elite i20s and Cretas. What’s up with Hyundai?? The second-gen i20 had a great paint job. Looks like Hyundai has cut costs for us.

Took a real close up shot of the paint on my 2 year old Nexon, for your benefit. Looks and feels like solid granite. Sad if the quality is no more.

re: Paint peeling off on a 3-year old Hyundai i20 Active. EDIT: Many more Hyundais affected

The paint on right fender chipped off after Tennis(Cricket) ball hit a week after my vehicle purchase when it was parked in a by lane.

There are scuff marks and paint discoloration on bonnet which can only be viewed at an angle. It happened right after I gently try to remove bird dropping using a spray of water and a microfiber towel.

Wow. Really sad to see paint peeling off comparatively new cars like this. Points to a really bad production process.

I have a Pajero, Vento & Palio and the combined age of the three is close to three decades. All three are running original company paint. Sad to see cars are not being made the same anymore.
