Thank you for your reply. Please excuse my delay. I found the OBD port in the passenger foot well area of Tata Ace HT. Like you rightly said, OBDII scanner didn't work with it. Worked well on the SuperAce though.

Has anybody used 'Dash' or other 'persistent OBD port connected' utilities. This offers realtime fuel economy & driving feedback, trip logs & OBD, + lowest fuel prices, etc. Just wondering if the cheaper $10 OBD scanners on Amazon, can be plugged in permanently, or are the claims of the ScanLink LX on power management worth the $70?
Somebody above mentioned the iOS app 'Automatic'. Apparently Dash competes with a number of*ODB apps*and similar services*in an ever-crowded market, including YC-backed*Automatic*(whose "Link" dongle is a bit pricier at $99.95),*Carvoyant,*CarMD,Torque,*Car Doctor. Dash is on the Google playstore but awaits metric conversions.

Has anyone tried these cheap obd scanners from eBay and DealExtreme? Was thinking of investing in one of these. Anyone had any experience?

They have the same hardware in them usually and just the external casing and stickering varies. It will work in most cases except if there is a defect in the product itself. Dont get the bigger version since it may interfere with your foot. Get the light blue coloured one which is very compact. If buying from a foreign seller, anything above 10-12$ is not worth it since you could buy it here for 1k and also receive the product faster, with replacement or refund if required.

Thanks for the information. The SX4 and Wagon-R use OBD 1 or 2?

If the model you have bought is manufactured Before mid-2009, the OBD-l and if it is post that it is OBD-II.

AFAIK, Wagon-R only the current running model is OBDII and same with SX4.

For any prior models you will require OBDI compatible reader like Launch DBSCar, these are original branded tools and obviously more expensive. However these can read even ABS/AirBag/Body Electricals/etc too.

I have seen a few OBD II readers on Amazon.com specially for Suzuki cars that are costing between 8-9K.

Will these be reading everything that ECU sports?

Will this be in working condition for the Indian models?

Quite a costly risk. What exactly are looking for in ECU codes?
Also Indian models may have different ECU programming so better do research before buying it.

Well, I am sure this must been answered earlier but I only found them 1-2 years back on this thread. Many things have changed including the hardware of the reader. So does this work with Maurti Alto LXi 2008 model?
I am not into serious diagnosis but casual information should be helpful like MPH, etc.
