As far as my knowledge goes, Chevys follow CAN.
Also, where are you getting the device from? Please post the details.

I got the blue tooth one from:
ELM327 Bluetooth Infinite Diagnostic Cable Elm327 Bluetooth Infinite Diagnostic Cable [OBDEXP9925] - US$48.00 : OBDExpert Electronics Co.,ltd
it cost me around Rs.3000 at that time with free shipping. you can pay with a debit card. this is a reliable supplier. though I must warn you that free shipping takes up to 20 days.
I also bought another 2 from these sites:
search for the best deals and reliability of the suppliers:

ELM327 USB Vehicle OBD-2 Scanner Tool - Free Shipping - DealExtreme

Wholesale Factory price Bluetooth ELM327 v1.4a,elm 327 from Autoscannertool Electron Technology Co., Ltd.

As far a parameters go, on my diesel tata indigo it shows these since the ecu has very few parameters:
Engine RPM
Calculated Load Value
Coolant Temperature
Vehicle Speed
Intake Air Temperature
Air Flow Rate
Absolute Throttle Position
but on my fiat palio petrol 1.2:
Engine RPM
Calculated Load Value
Coolant Temperature
Fuel System Status
Vehicle Speed
Short Term Fuel Trim
Long Term Fuel Trim
Intake Manifold Pressure
Timing Advance
Intake Air Temperature
Air Flow Rate
Absolute Throttle Position
Oxygen sensor voltages/associated short term fuel trims
Fuel System status
warning light reset etc

I have tried it on an android and a nokia N8. For windows I used an usb ELM327.

Since you have both wired(USB) and bluetooth OBD scanners, which one would you suggest?.I can buy only one of them.So asking for your advice as to which one is a better buy in terms of practicality?

I think wired one will be better.Bluetooth some times will break down(Found out from previous post). We are planning to buy it.What about a bulk purchase?

This choice entirely depends on the the diagnostic aplication an the hardware it is running on. for eg.
If you want to use it for an android device just to get some fancy gauges with the various parameters shown then you need a bluetooth elm 327.
but
If you are using it for a windows or linux based carputer or even a laptop to run tests and check the various parameters the the USB elm327 is any time a better device.
for what they cost on these sites i think its better to get both.
this is the usb one i got:

re: OBD (On-board diagnostics) for Indian Cars

I have few doubts:
- Is there any Symbian or Java based smart phone applications to pair with the ELM327 Bluetooth OBD scanner?
- Is it possible to pair the bluetooth device with a laptop and use?
Can any one throw some light on this?

I checked the compatibility of few obd2 readers. They support many nokia phones also.I am using a N 5800 Xpress Music, but they have listed N 5700 Xpress Music.I think we have to try connecting to laptop.

Yes there was a 5700 Music express phone by Nokia, in fact I own one. Most probably released in 2007, it was priced @ 11K.

See this :

Nokia 5700 XpressMusic - Nokia India

And pairing with laptop will give give you much flexibility as you will get loads of software. Some of it will come in accompanied CD and there are lot more if you take the pain of using Google.

Don't go for group purchase, you may be charged Customs duty as Customs may treat that as commercial shipment which otherwise will be duty free. Also, when ordering from China (even if you buy from Ebay.com most of the suppliers are from China and ships from China) pay 3-4$ extra to get by registered airmail. That way you will get a tracking no. and confirmed delivery. Saving those 3-4$ on delivery is not worth as there are more than 75% chance that you'll never get the item as the postal staff/customs staff may steal your item. This is from my personal experience (I do a lot of international shipping).

re: OBD (On-board diagnostics) for Indian Cars

I am definitely interested in purchasing the OBD2-USB as well as the OBD2-Bluetooth devices. Also, if we are looking at purchasing in bulk, as stated above by archat, it will attract customs duty. At the same time, even individual, non commercial devices are eligible to be billed for customs duty - its just that normally, it goes unnoticed. I have had to pay the duty on one occasion.

Still, if we are to go the legal way, we can source in the stuff (at much lower prices), provided we try to procure atleast 20-25 devices. I have a friend who has an import-export license and get it in for us - legally!

Also, has anyone got the readings correctly on a diesel engine? Please do let me know.

Yes, for Symbian there is OBD Scope. It offers 7 days free trial, after which is paid. ~10euro

As dhanushs said, OBD-scope works prery well in Nokia phones. We tried monitoring OBD stuff with a bluetooth ELM327 device in Safari, Indica and Civic. In all the three vehicles OBS-scope showed different set of gauges, some for diesel others for petrol. We had a little bit of an issue with bluetooth connection in the Civic, specially when the vehicle was in motion. Finally, the gauges in OBD-scope are not as funky as Torque.
