are u sure? have seen some cars running on stock wheels with 195

Bought my shocks from a dealer with the mech.
Opted to go for that mech since he was closer to home and a few bhpians have done their cars from him so thats when i decided to go to him.
The shocks i got put are brand new ones but yes its probably chinese make or something like that.

Tires,ive been told 15" would spoil ride quality and 195's are too big for the ikon. 185/55/r14 are good. And only Goodyears fit my budget so would go in for those.
SAiffee tire, and another Tire rack near Juhu had told me Yoko's arent ment for the Ikon. They'd probably be getting more of a %age from B'stones or g'years hence the statement i guess.

Its time for a suspension overhaul on my Ford Ikon. Planning to change all four shocks with OEM. Springs also showing signs of age, but quiet expensive. Can anyone suggest if something could be done with the old springs, or do I need to purchase new sets.

Hey guys of late I have observed that my car redlines at around 5800 rpm where as the redline on an ikon 1.6 is supposed to be 6200 rpm.Any reasons as to why this is happening.

5,800 rpm? Does the fuel get cut off at that point as how the case was with 6,200 rpm?

Look at Fuel pump? Are there any other things strange in the running of the car?

Yes the other strange thing that I observed is that there are lot of jerking & I can feel some vibration on the clutch pedal when the car starts moving from a stand still.The other problem is that earlier I could move the car form stand still in 2nd gear but now it is just impossible to move the car unless I stamp hard on the accelerator.

Yes, there is no improvement in the ride quality after the suspension rebuild in my car too.
But, tubeless tyres plus dry nitrogen has helped quite a bit.

my Ikon flair is on stock 13" MRF ZTVS and Neo Alloys.

Suspension is hard while i drive alone( which is the most) and tryre pressure is 30psi on all tyres.

But when i drive with 4 people on board the suspension is comfy...

I have heard of people suggestion Micheline xm1 for better ride qlty ...

I had those MRF ZVTS for 40,000 kms. They're pathetic in grip and ride quality.
I switched to Hankook 175/70/13 tubeless and nitrogen with 29-30 psi. Ride quality has improved drastically.
Traction is a lot better than the MRFs.

Would really appreciate if some could tell me whether coil springs could be brought back to its original position. Or the only option is to buy new sets. My car springs are getting old. Thanks.

You mean the suspension is sagging? Best bet is to change the springs though there are some who can refurbish, but i haven't come across something which is long lasting from refurbishing. Get the rest of it checked and overhauled along with this.

Sagging.. whatever. Cars clearance is lower than it should be. Hey Jaggu, thanks . New springs are kind of expensive. I may end up buying them anyway. There goes my savings for a rainy day.

You have familiar symptoms,but I'm not able to recall the cause and solution. Btw,I never was able to move the car from standstill in 2nd gear,it used to sputter. I guess,u can get your clutch checked up! Jerking could be the spark plugs or throttle body or fuel flow.

MRF ZVTS are hard,noisy radials. Even I find the suspension hard and stiff when only one person is in it. I use 28 psi for all 4 tyres. Btw I'm on 175/65 R14,same stock alloys & stock ZVTS radials. Michelin XM1 has better ride quality because it has soft rubber meaning its more grippy as well as silent while the ZVTS is the opposite. Changing to softer rubber tyres is the only alternate mean.

Coil springs can be brought back,but only if done by refurbishing. And keep in mind that refurbished springs again reduce over time and at a quicker rate than the OEM. Even though they're priced high,its considered wise going for an overhaul for the springs.

check ignition coil cable... sure thats the problem

The Ikon 1.6 came with 175/65R14, goin 185/55 will reduce your wheel rolling radius. You will loose FE. The best upsize is 185/60-14 but that too reduces the rolling radius by a bit.

I have actually fitted 185/65 which increased the rolling radius and I dont mind the 2.3% speedo/odo under read and 2% drop in performance.
