Did you time your car post remap? Curious to know how fast it has become - even the stock car was relatively quicker compared to competition - so a remap would have made it significantly quicker for the segment.

I drive a Wolféd car myself, and I echo your feedback about them. I went for Wolf because they know what they are doing, and they are willing to explain everything in detail, if you are technically inclined.

I haven't timed it yet. It has become very quick post the remap, picks up speed effortlessly. Will be timing it soon, shall update it here :)

That is true, Wolf always quote lesser figures or I would say realistic numbers. But the Wolf tuned cars are usually faster than the so called high figures by few other tuners lol:

I second that. I have tried couple of tuners in India and only Rajiv from Wolf would explain the technical part in detail and it's fun or interesting to know what's happening with your car :D

Congratulations on the remap
Did you get it done in bangalore? Would fellow enthusiasts suggest going ahead with a remap on an automatic 2.0 NA Engine?(Hyundai Elantra)

I also drive a Freestyle and would love to improve the low end lag. Was this just an ECU tune or any hardware was added to the car. Will this affect the cars warranty and can the Map be detected by the ASC. Also what was the cost involved?

Hey Happy Camper, I love the idea of remapping and I have a few questions if you could answer:

1. For starters, the cost?

2. I’m guessing they put your car on a dyno post remap to check/show you the updated bhp/torque. Can you share these numbers? And maybe also the torque curve, if the Wolf team gave you one.

3. A general question regarding remaps, I believe this will void factory warranty. But, how will the service person know of the mod?

4. Will the tyres/suspension/filters need to be upgraded? Im guessing it isn’t needed for a stage 1 remap, but you might need to upgrade for a stage 2 remap?

1. Please get in touch with the team for details. They will explain in detail about the different options available for the car. They're quite active on their social medias too.

2. I don't think they've a dyno facility. This car has not been dyno-ed before and after remap. I was told that these figures (120 HP/ 260 NM approx) are based on the changes made to the map and the logs of vital parameters. For more details please get in touch with their tech team, I think they will be happy to describe things in more detail. I'm hoping to hit the dyno after my planned Stage 2 upgrades.

3. Any mod on the car would void the warranty. A remap can't be detected that easily. Also, it shouldn't be a problem if you have good rapport with the ASS team. If identified, the ASS can consider this as a reason to void warranty. My car warranty expired last month.

4. The upgrades would depend on your requirements. IMO, the car needs better suspension and brakes. I've upgraded the brakes pads to EBC Ultimax2. It's marginally better than stock. I'll be going for 16 inch rims and wider rubber shortly.

I just got their Stage 1+ ECU Remap, no hardware was upgraded.

I got it done at Coorg, while they were here. Please get in touch with them, they might have a remap for your car. Although I'm not very sure of Remap availability for this model.

Not yet. While I've approached several, I've preferred to have the TCU updated from TVS. Haven't been able to get a freeze on the ECU thingy though.
In the meantime, I've discovered that the diesel gate update has made my Rapid a bit more lethal on the highway. A dozen runs on the e-way later, the engine noise has disappeared and while the shift points have changed, she still takes off like a Rocket.

I am guessing you own a Ford Figo / Freestyle. The brakes on them are definitely inadequate. I am on stock brake pads and they screech a lot especially during monsoons or when the car is stationary for a longer period of time. What was the cost for EBC Ultimax2? If it was only marginally better then which other brand you suggest?

If I recall correctly, the pads costed 3,500. They were sourced by my dad. AFAIK, there are no high performance brake pads available for the car. I am yet to research on it. Will keep you posted :)

To my understanding, their Stage 1+ remap does not require any mandatory hardware upgrades. They did mention that I can opt for a drop-in upgrade air filter, if needed.

I believe Stage 1 and Stage 1+ remap uses different calibration specs. Stage 2 and above requires specific hardware upgrades.

I have decided to take the leap and remap my 2016 elite i20 petrol. I have narrowed down on Wolfmoto as they have done remaps on numerous NA petrol engine. I am planning to go for their stage 1plus map. I understand that being an NA engine the gains won't be much. It would be really helpful if any Team-Bhpian can share their experiences of remapping an NA car.

I can relate to your goosebumps, as was in the same situation in 2017, when I got my Chevy Beat 1.2 NA Petrol remapped from Wolfmoto. I was tired of my Beatie taking its own sweet time in overtaking those trucks on the highways.

It was the first Beat Petrol Rajiv had remapped, and it was a different ECU, which needed benchpress method, so he was Not so sure of the gains , and at that time he wasn't too eager to do it, skeptical of the customer satisfaction and waste of efforts.
But I kept faith in him, based on Dr.Naren's excellent experience and results, I literally urged Rajiv to go ahead.
The first map he did had no marked difference, but we kept patience, and it took him a full night to crack the code.
In the morning the new map opened up the car's potential,
it became much Free-revving and easy to drive. The annoying lag was minimal, engine noise reduced, exhaust sound became sweet and it became much easier to overtake those annoying trucks on the highways! That was precisely what I had asked for.
I was happy and satisfied with the results, as i was almost on the verge of selling the car if the drivability hadn't improved.
Rajiv too was thrilled by my satisfaction, and since then he has tried his hands on many NA petrols, which is evident from their Facebook posts.
Its been 3 years and the car is running fine, without any engine or transmission issues whatsoever.
As Rajiv now has hands on experience of so many other NA petrols, I believe you are in much safer hands and easier situation than mine.

And YES, that lag in i20 is so annoying.
So ... Just Go ahead buddy ... and post your full experience here.

Keep in mind that if your expectations are low, you will be more than satisfied with the results.Technically, without any serious hardware changes there wont be a major bump in power, but the car will Open up and become much more smoother and enjoyable, and that ITCH to sell the car :D due to its annoying lag and lack of power will be gone.

Thanks for the first hand experience of remap of NA engine. Yes, the lag of i20 is very annoying. However I am quite satisfied with the top end of the car. I am looking to improve the low end to avoid constant gear shifts. Ever since, i moved to my hometown due to Work from home,i am driving in two lane roads with medium to heavy traffic. I don't have high expectations and hope the remap will improve the bottom end. I shortlisted Wolfmoto due to their experience in remapping multiple NA engines of Swift, i20, Jazz, and others cars. Will put up my experience post the remap. Looking forward to it.:)

Do note that I have 5 simple mods on my car which gave me these convincing results
1- FFE Free Flowing Exhaust done from Automech Mumbai - the full cost was 10k but they charged me 7k as I just opted for the header alone and kept the centre pipe and rear exhaust tip as stock - (to minimize sound)
2- BMC filter - cost 3k - got a great offer online - you can also choose K&N or any other performance filter
3- Wider profile tyres - Michelins 175 - up from the stock 155
4- ROGERAB suspension spring buffers - 4k
5- WOLFMOTO REMAP

Performance Results from all these 5 mods are

1- FFE - appx 10% boost

2- Performance Filter- appx 5-10% boost - car breathes much easier and starts to revv better

3- Wider profile Tyres - appx 5% boost - Actually it doesnt increase the power of the engine - but helps in transferring more engine power to the surface resulting in better acceleration so you can feel some boost in power - whereas Gripwise and handling wise there is upto 20% better grip and stability solely due to the quality of wider and better rubbers - esp MICHELINS I could vouch for

4- ROGERAB- doesn't boost any power - BUT helps a lot in the handling and stability of the car, reduces Body Roll, betters cornering ability, saves the underbelly from scraping speedbumps and does make a considerable difference when you are driving with full load.

5- WOLFMOTO REMAP appx 10-15% boost

So collectively my car gives 30-40% better performance and drivability than stock - when I drive in Petrol.
Also my car runs on CNG - which usually drops your stock performance by 20% !
But due to these mods and increased performance of 40%, I am actually running on CNG with 20% more power than stock !
That too @ a measly Rs 2/km fuel cost on CNG.

P.S. in this kind of setup - a few thousand kms under your belt and Voila ! all your mods are Free clap:

Disclaimer- All these appx figures mentioned above are Not at all Lab tested - they are simply the power bump figures which I felt at the steering and pedal -"as a layman" - after each of these mods. So please excuse me if you find them contrary to your technical knowledge.
